Viola Maxwell

Viola Maxwell, 91, formerly of Raeford, passed away January 28, 2012 at The Newport in Newport News, Virginia.
She was born December 1, 1920 in Hoke County, the daughter of Martin Luther and Fannie (Little) Maxwell. Her parents and her nine siblings: Albert, Lee, Homer, Leatha, Bill, Boger, Hughes, Norman, and Martin Luther Jr. Maxwell preceded her in death. She received her education at King's Business College, Raleigh, and the University of Maryland, College Park where she received a BA degree. She also attended George Washington University Law School. During World War II she served in the WAVES and later was employed by the US Government in various locations. She obtained her real estate license and sold real estate in the Washington, D.C. area for many years and also owned VIP Antiques in Georgetown.
She is survived by her son, George C. Pagos and his wife Terry of Seattle, Washington, sister-in-law Jewel Maxwell of Concord, and several nephews and a niece, James Maxwell of Newport News, Boger E. Maxwell Jr., Bennie Henderson and the Rev. Earl Henderson, all of North Carolina; Floyd Maxwell and Charles Maxwell of Mississippi; and Marilyn M. Lelli of Ohio.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 1st at Peninsula Funeral Home.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in Raeford Cemetery, with Crumpler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
