Constance L. Maroney

Constance Louise Maroney of Raeford died Thursday, February 14, 2013 in her home at the age of 52.
She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on February 5, 1961. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Crystal Dawn Harrison, her brother, Carl Edward Black, and her father, John Tom Black, Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Kip N. Maroney of Raeford; her daughter, Alicia M. Boswell of Raeford; her mother, Connie Gillis of Biscoe; her brothers, Tom Black, Jr. of Biscoe, Chris Black of Seagrove; and her granddaughter, Kaydence Dawn Boswell.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Toby Neal officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Hoke County, 336 S. Main Street, Raeford, NC 28376.

Madeline W. Coffield

Madeline Whitehead Coffield, 87, of Wilson, formerly of Raeford, died Thursday, February 14, 2013.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Rev. David Allen will preside.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon McNeil Coffield, Sr.
She is survived by her daughters, Betsey C. Hendrix and husband Greg of Pfafftown and Sandra C. Voorhes and husband Tony of Wilson; her sons, Vernon McNeil "Mac" Coffield, Jr. and wife Jean of Cornelius, Steve Coffield and wife Debbie of Matthews, and Carl Coffield of Wilson; 10 grandchildren, Dr. Neil Coffield, Brad Coffield, Timothy Coffield, Ryan Coffield, Eric Hendrix, Leslie Freeman, Amber Moss, Jeffrie Ann Moss, Amanda Coffield, and Douglas Coffield; and five great-grandchildren, Aidan Coffield, Gavin Coffield, Wesley Coffield, Wyatt Coffield, and Emery Coffield.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 304, Chicago, IL 60611.

Harold M. Thrower

Harold Monroe Thrower Sr., of Red Springs and Raeford, died Wednesday, February 13, at the age of 89.
He was born September 28, 1923, in Red Springs, the youngest son of the late Fairley and Pearl Currie Thrower. He was a graduate of Red Springs High School and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During World War II he attended the Army Specialized Training Program at the University of Rhode Island, and later served in the Army Air Forces.
He was the owner and proprietor of Thrower's General Store for more than half a century. An elder at Philadelphus Presbyterian Church for many years, he was the author of "The History of Raft Swamp and Philadelphus Presbyterian Churches," which received an award from the North Carolina Presbyterian Historical Society. He was a dedicated local historian, an occasional columnist for the Red Springs Citizen, a farmer, and a private pilot.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Jane Brown Thrower. Survivors include his daughters, Elizabeth T. Kane of Red Springs, and Marie Thrower and her husband Charles Rowe of Charleston, South Carolina; his son, Harold "Hal" Thrower Jr. and his wife Janet of Raeford; grandson Graham Rowe of Chandler, Arizona; and step-grandson Miles Rowe of Durham.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Crumpler Serenity Funeral Home, 220 E. 4th Ave, Red Springs
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the Philadelphus Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Mike McGehee officiating. Burial will be in the Alloway Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, or McMillan Memorial Library, 205 E. 2nd Avenue, Red Springs, NC 28377

John Baldwin

John Purvist Baldwin, 73, of Raeford, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.
Survivors are: daughters, Lula, Brenda, Kathleen, Belinda and Shavonne; sons, Ray, John and Dedrick; siblings, Tony, John, Doloris, Linda, Brenda, Gloria, Elizabeth, Marvel; 25 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Sat. Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial will be in Baldwin Memorial Cemetery.
Viewing is from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dr. Jean S. Daniels

Dr. Jean Stephens Daniels, of White Lake, formerly of Raeford, died Monday, February 11, 2013 in Duke University Medical Center at the age of 61.
She was born in Cumberland County on January 10, 1952 to the late James D. Stephens and Imogene Baucom Stephens. She was a member of Manna Church in Fayetteville, the Sandhill Emmaus Walk, and the North Carolina Association of Educators. She was the author of the book "The Light of Life and Laura." She earned her bachelors degree from Western Carolina University, her masters degree from UNC Charlotte, and her doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.
Survivors are her husband, Jimmy L. Daniels, formerly of Bennetsville, South Caorlina, now of White Lake; her sons, Joel Daniel of Fayetteville,and Justin Daniel and his wife, Tatiana of Fayetteville; a daughter, Laura D. Lawyer and her husband, Mike of Fayetteville; her sister, Jan Stephens of Raeford; her close friend and cousin, Julia Augustoni of Kernersville, formerly of Raeford; two aunts, Sarah Baucom of Pinehurst, and Yvonne B. McMillan of Red Springs; and two grandchildren, Caitlyn Marie Daniel, and Jared Michael Daniel.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford, NC.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 14 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Leon Hawks officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

David R. Frame

David Ryan Frame of Raeford died February 8, 2013 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 16.
He was born in Cumberland County on March 17, 1996 to Michael S. Frame and Tonya Nichols Frame. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Joyce Chipman and his maternal great-grandmother, Hazel Chipman. He attended Lincoln Academy before transferring to Flora Macdonald Academy. He enjoyed photography, writing, playing soccer, and spending time with his best friend, Ricky Doza.
Survivors include his parents Michael Shawn Frame and Tonya Ann Frame; his brother, Michael Allen Frame; his sisters, Katelyn Lee Frame, Danielle Katherine Rothman and her husband, Myles, all of Raeford; his grandparents, Ernest and Bonnie Frame of Raeford, Al and Sandi Finn of Hope Mills, David and Sharon Nichols of Wiscasset, Maine, and Van Seiders of South Bristol, Maine; his aunt, Paulette LaValley and her husband John of Conway, South Carolina; cousins, Whitney Smith of Fayetteville, Brandon and Sean Harrington of Maine, Kristina Finn of Hope Mills, and Angela Moore, Kelsey, Emma and Madison Scott of Walpole, Maine; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Family Community Baptist Church, 4436 Cumberland Road, Fayetteville, with Pastor Roy Arrington officiating.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
A graveside service will be held in Walpole, Maine at a later date.

Samuel W. Jernigan

Army Sgt. Samuel Wayne Jernigan, 55, of Raeford, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013.
Survivors are: children, Rachel Blanchard, Dale Blanchard; siblings, Cynthia Moore, Debbie Balton, Allan, Terry; two grandchildren.
The graveside service will be held Wed. Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Visitation, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jernigan-Warren Funeral home in Fayetteville.

Gwendolyn G. Shaw

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Gore Senior Entwistle Shaw passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Davis Healthcare Center in Wilmington. She was born in Raeford on May 13, 1930 and was a true Southern Belle. She resided in Chapel Hill the majority of her adult life later relocating to Winston-Salem and Wilmington.
She was a devoted mother of five children and adoring grandmother of 13 grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Annie Black McFadyen of Fayetteville and the late Arthur D. Gore of Raeford.
She attended Peace College where she was president of the Sigma Phi Kappa Society, treasurer of the Student Council and a member of the Papyrus Club. She recieved her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina and was a founding member of Kappa Delta. She received her masters degree in Education from the University of Virginia. Following graduation, she began her career as a first grade teacher.
In 1955, she married Dr. Robert Joseph Senior of Williamsville, New York. They moved to Chapel Hill where they raised five children. For more than 30 years she was a nationally acclaimed flower show judge, talented Realtor, active member of the Church of the Holy Family, a member of The NC Society of New York and community volunteer. She never met a stranger and always had smile on her face. She possessed a talent and passion for decorating, entertaining and flower arrangements. She also enjoyed fashion, tennis and golf.
Predeceasing her are her husbands Dr. Robert J. Senior of Chapel Hill, William (Bill) Entwistle of Winston-Salem, and Alan Shaw, Sr. of Winston-Salem.
Surviving are Christopher D. Senior of Chapel Hill and his wife Leigh Ann; Gwendolyn (Gigi) Senior Robinson of Chattanooga, Tennessee and her husband, Bill and their four children; 1st Lt US Army Will Robinson and his wife Jess, Nancy, Sam and Jack; Robert J. Senior, II of Wilmington and wife Angela and their three sons Bret, Patrick and Cole; Anne Senior Brewer of Wilmington, NC and her husband Jerard and their three children: Avery, Coburn, and Paxton; Sue Senior Catherine of Greensboro and her husband Chuck and their three children; and Cameron, Casey and Charlie. Also surviving are two sisters, Anne Gore Hostetler Register of Pinehurst; three children, and eight grandchildren and her husband Tom Register; Fanette Gore Ollendorff of Naples, FL and her three children and two grandchildren; her cousin Scott McFadyen of Fayetteville, NC; her sister-in-law Inez Gore of Chipley, Florida; her stepdaughter, Tancy Entwistle of Winton Salem; and, Alan Jr. and Beverly Shaw of Winston Salem.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Wrightsville Beach at The Little Chapel on the Boardwalk, with the Rev. Pat Rabun officiating. A reception and celebration of life will follow in the fellowship hall. Because she had a passion for life and it was full of color and happiness, it is the family's special request that bright colors be worn in her honor at this gathering.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at 12:30 pm at Raeford Cemetery. A reception will follow in Raeford Presbyterian Church, John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall.

Lena M. Paul

Lena Miller Paul, 78, died Thursday, February 7, 2013 at her home in Lilesville.
She was born January 7, 1935 in Hoke County, a daughter of the late Ross and Emma Perryman Miller. She was retired from Burlington Industries.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Wade Hampton Paul of the home; her daughters, Teresa Dolak and Juanita Lear both of Lilesville; her grandchildren, Fretia Flinchum, Tanya Boatwright, Lori Dennis and Gary Lear; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Staturday, February 9, 2013 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro. Interment was in Lilesville Cemetery.
