Leon D. McGeachy

Leon Donte McGeachy, of 578 Haire Road, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013.
Survivors are: father, Maurice McIver; sisters, LaKeisha Harris and Latreese; and brother, Demetrius.
The funeral will be held Fri. Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.
Viewing, 1 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mae W. Fairley

Mae Wilson Fairley, 78, of 2809 Doc Brown Road, died recently.
Survivors are: children, Marshall, Frederick, Jonathan, Valerie, Andrea; stepchildren, Henry, Jessie, Mary, Druscilla; sister, Viola.
The funeral will be held Thurs. Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. Thursday in R.L. Douglas Conference B Headquarters. Burial will be in Friendship Grove Freewill Baptist Church cemetery.

Mary E. Dobbins

Mary Elizabeth Dobbins, 69, of 221 Dockery Road, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013.
Survivors are: sister, Nadine Ellerbe; and brother, Willie.
The funeral will be held Wed. Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. in Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be held today, Sept. 24 from 1to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Janet L. Hanzak

Janet Lillian Hanzak of Raeford died Monday, September 23, 2013 at the age of 80.
She was born June 9, 1933 in Lake County, Ohio to the late William and Ruth Bittner Mackey.
She was a long time member of Living Stones Christian Church in Alvin, Texas.
She is survived by three daughters Jodi Davis of Raeford, Jana Siegle of Canyon Lake, Texas, and Jill Goldstein of Parker, Colorado; a brother Bruce Mackey of Fredricksburg, Virginia; a sister Bonnie Lakso of Huntington, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

David L. Green

David Lee Green, 59, of 198 Autry Loop, Raeford, died Sep. 9, 2013.
He was the son of the late Benjamin and Ophelia Green. He graduated from Hoke High School and later joined the National Guard. He was a member of Freedom AME Zion Church in Raeford.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Brown; and three brothers, Benjamin Franklin Green Jr., Joseph Allen Green, and Bobby Lewis Green.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Green of the home; a son, Alexander Ray of Raeford; a stepson, Kelvin McLean of Raeford; four sisters, Ellen Williams of Pinehurst, Shirley Scott of Fayetteville, and Dorothy Melvin (James) and Cynthia Green, both of Raeford; a brother, Dwight Green (Annie) of Raeford; an aunt, Francis Hamilton of Brooklyn, New York; two grandchildren, Emmanuel and Shiada Ray of Raeford; his mother-in-law, Ruth McLean; six sisters-in-law, Linda Campbell (Joseph), Marger McNair (Sam), Wanda Alury (William), Karen McLean and Geraldine Cobb, all of Raeford, and Deal Green of Fayetteville; and a brother-in-law, Archie McLean (Eunice) of Raeford.
The funeral was held Monday, Sep. 16 at Buie Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Burial was at McLaughlin Chapel Church Cemetery in Raeford.

Charlotta C. King

Charlotta Coward King, 80, of Raeford, died peacefully following an extended illness, surrounded by loving family members on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines. She was born in Florence, South Carolina on September 4, 1933 to the late Barnwell Edwin and Pauline Stackley Coward. She graduated from McClenaghan High School in June 1951 and attended Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
She felt fortunate to have lived and raised her children in Clarksville, Virginia and Raeford, North Carolina. She was a homemaker and active in Raeford. As a member of Raeford United Methodist Church since 1972, she served as a Sunday School teacher in the Koinonia Women's class for many years as well as a Circle leader through United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Raeford Woman's Club and served on both Hoke County and Sandhill Regional Library boards. She waged a battle against breast cancer in 1971 and through God's grace won.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, George McCown King; their two daughters, Polly King Jordan and husband, John of Raeford; Charlotta King Howell and husband, David, a Raeford native, of Clarksville, Virginia; their son, George McCown King, Jr. and wife, Roxanne of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and granddaughter, Elizabeth McCown King of Atlanta, Georgia. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Janet Crowe Coward of Concord; niece, Catherine Coward Niebauer and husband, Randy of High Point and their two children, Emma Carlisle and Ren. She was preceded in deaht by her brother, Barnwell Edwin Coward, Jr. of Concord.
The funeral will be officiated graveside by Dr. Steve Castle and Dr. Homer C. Phifer at Raeford Cemetery on E. Central Avenue at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Visitation will be graveside following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to: Raeford United Methodist Church, 308 N. Main Street, Raeford, North Carolina 28376. Arrangements are in the care of Crumpler Funeral Home of Raeford.

Wayne L. Crowder

Wayne Lester Crowder, 86, of Butler, Tennessee, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 in his home.
He was born on March 22, 1927 to the late Manley and Ella Warren Crowder. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a son, Robert Eugene Crowder; sisters: Trilla Norris, Pauline Greear, Opal Pardue, and Dorothy Pardue; brothers: Clyde Crowder, Otis Crowder, Orville Crowder, Delmar Crowder and Harold Crowder; grandson, Jason Pierce and son-in-law, Gary Laws.
He retired from Burlington Industries. He was a United States Army Veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Betty Butler Crowder; daughters, Helen Osborne of Mountain City, TN, Kathy Pierce and her husband Johnny Ray and Wanda Laws, all of Butler, TN; sons, Larry Crowder and his wife Sandra of Raeford and Johnny Crowder and his wife Toni of Butler, TN; daughter-in-law, Debbie Crowder of Raeford; sister: Mamie Adams, of Mountain City, TN; brothers, Earl Crowder and Jim Crowder, both of Mountain City, TN; twelve grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his church family.
The funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. in Dyson Grove Baptist Church in Tennessee with Pastor Leonard Fletcher and Brother Dean Fletcher officiating.

Laura Schlotman-Clayton

Laura Schlotman-Clayton, age 58, of Raeford, unexpectedly passed away on September 14, 2013.
She was a dedicated mother and wife and is survived by her husband Patrick Clayton; her son Nicholas Clayton; and her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Megan Clayton. She is also survived by her mother Polly Schlotman and her brother John and his wife Lesley Schlotman. She was preceded in death by her father, John Julien Schlotman.
She was born on July 19, 1955 in Marietta Georgia, attended the McEachern School and graduated from Marietta High School. She married Patrick on May 8, 1982. Since that time she and her family lived in California, Kentucky, Germany, Virginia, England, Texas and most recently Raeford.
A memorial service will be held September 28, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Marietta, 189 Church Street, Marietta GA 30060.
