Betty M. Hendrix

Betty McKellar Hendrix passed away on March 8, 2014, at Autumn Care in Raeford, after a valiant struggle to recover from a critical fall at her home on December 18, 2013 in which she broke her neck.
She was born on June 24, 1930 in Robeson County, NC. She graduated from Wagram High School and soon thereafter moved to Raeford as the bride of Samuel L. Hendrix. Wed at the manse of Centre Presbyterian Church near Maxton, NC, on February 12, 1949, Sam and Betty were married for 45 years. Betty was a member of Raeford United Methodist Church for 65 years, dedicating many years to her circle and to teaching children in Sunday school and Bible school. She was retired from the Hoke County Schools. A devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a faithful friend, Betty will be remembered for her beautiful smile, optimistic disposition and her kindness and generosity to all.
Survivors are: four children, Sue Hendrix Roberts and husband, Terry of Lenoir, NC; Linda Hendrix Metcalf of Greensboro, NC; Marie Hendrix Meyer and husband, Tim of Greensboro, NC and Samuel Hendrix, Jr and wife, Susan of Raeford, NC, and six grandchildren, Chris Meyer, Greg Meyer, Brian Meyer, Kevin Metcalf, Samantha Hendrix and George Hendrix. Survivors also include her brother, Julian "Buck" McKellar, Jr of Raleigh, NC and sister, Ann Coggin, of Greensboro, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Julian McKellar and Sarah Walker McKellar.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 14, at Raeford United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Raeford Cemetery. Visitation will be a Crumpler Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7 p.m.
