Mary H. Peele

Mary H. Peele, born March 21, 1925, died on August 27, 2014. She was born in Raeford in the family home. She died peacefully while residing at Open Arms in Raeford. Her great-grandfather was one of the early elected elders of the Raeford Presbyterian Church (1905) and was the mayor of Raeford from 1905 to 1907. Her family had extensive farming interests in Hoke County and owned a cotton platform in Raeford from which they brokered cotton. She came from a pioneering family of the Cape Fear Valley region. She taught on the Fort Bragg Reservation. She was an early representative and saleswoman for Amway. She was a great historian including family knowledge back to the 1500s. She loved her church and community, dark chocolate and the color pink. 
Her siblings Jeptha Peele, Nancy Peele, Edmond Lawerence (Larry) Peele and Kay Worth preceded her in death. She is survived by nieces and nephews Cheryl Slack, Frank Peele, Sue Steele, Kathy Brackett, Mary Pauline Peele, Anna Furshong and Barbara White.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4 at Raeford Presbyterian Church, 128 W. Edinborough Ave., with the Rev. Michael McGehee officiating.
Interment will be in the Raeford Cemetery. Following the graveside service family, friends and church members are invited back to the church for a luncheon.
