Tara Rushing

Tara Rushing, 42, of 432 West Palmer Road, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2015.
Survivors are: husband, James; daughter, Joshalyn; sons, Joshua and Jacob; sister, Sandra Williams and Kendra Sinkler; and brothers, Marion, Owen and Adrian Williams.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in All Nations Church of Jesus Inc. in Maxton. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg. 
Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 16 from 7 to 8  at Purcell Funeral Home in Laurinburg.

 




Joseph Thomas

Joseph Thomas, 51, of 480 Hobart St., died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015.
He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Brenda; sons, Chame, Seth and Ethan; sisters, Judy Chinn and Joyce Williams; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in Tabernacle of Miracles Church in Fayetteville.
 Viewing Friday, Jan. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Herring Funeral Care & Cremations in Fayetteville.




William J. Hair

William James Hair of Linden died Thursday, January 15, 2015 in SECU Hospice House at the age of 64.

He was born in Cumberland County on December 27, 1950 to the late Melton James Hair and Callie Mae Sanders Hair.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Hair; his daughters, Mary H. Nutter (Paul), and Patricia H. Hugins (Timothy); his son William T. Hair; his brothers, Elwood Hair (Ladean), Ricky Hair (Carolyn), Junior Chapman; his sister, Ruby Wiggins; and 6 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home on Sunday, January 18, 2015, 8150 Challenger Drive, Linden, NC.

 A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Evelyn Myers

Evelyn Myers of Southern Pines, formerly of Raeford, died Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in FirstHealth Hospice House at the age of 88.

She was born in Cumberland County on August 21, 1926 to the late Matthew P. Young and Edith Vermell Melvin Young.She was a member of the Raeford United Methodist Church and the Pearl S. Cole Sunday School Class, and all activities within the church. She was also a member of the Woodman of the World since 1962, where she held offices in the local district, was state past president, and also served on the national level. She was an executive secretary for Burlington Industries until she retired in 1987.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Melvin Ashburn and Charles (Bill) Myers. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Elwood, Mervin, Carl, Robert, and Maurice; and two sisters, Myrtle Hancock and Mary Alice Cain. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon K. Ashburn (Stephannie Willis) of Eagle Springs; her brother, Ernest Harold Young and his wife, Erma of Fayetteville; her sister, Tense Young Jackson of Lilesburg, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, at the Raeford United Methodist Church 308 North Main Street Raeford.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Raeford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Castle officiating. Burial will be in the LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street in Fayetteville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raeford UMC, 308 N. Main St, Raeford, NC 28376 and/or the Woodmen of the World ENC Youth Camp, 9210 Highway 55 West, Kinston, NC 28504, American Heart Association 2711 Breezewood Avenue, Suite A Fayetteville NC 28303.

Robert A Grant

Robert A. "Bobby" Grant, 72, of Fayeteville, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, in his home after a battle with cancer.
Bobby was an avid fan of Dale Earnhardt Jr, NASCAR and the Carolina Panthers. He was a dedicated employee of Bryan Honda for 31 years.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Irene Grant.
He is survived by his sister, Wanda Davis, and a host of cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Judson Dunlap officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Friends may visit the home of Melissa Barbour at 1512 Quail Hollow Court, Fayetteville.
In lieu of flowers: memorials may be made to Sandy Grove United Methodist Church, 6800 Arabia Road, Lumber Bridge, NC 28537.



Stephen J. Costin

Stephen Joseph "Joe" Costin, 53, of the Sunset Harbor Community of Bolivia, NC died Thursday January 8th, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Joe was born in Frankfurt, Germany on December 16, 1961 and was the son of Doris Davis Costin of Aynor, SC and the late Halbert R. Costin. He was also predeceased by a sister, Mary Costin. He was a carpenter. Joe will always be remembered for wit and great sense of humor.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Ruth Costin; his daughter, Destiny Graves of the home, granddaughter, Emma Grace Graves; three brothers, Ray Costin of Aynor, SC, Mike Costin of Winnabow, Robert Costin of St. Petersburg, Florida; a sister, Wanda Costin-Morales of Mary Esther, Florida.
A memorial service was held Saturday, January 10th, 2015 at 2pm at the Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Chapel, 603 Ocean Highway, Supply, NC.

Sheryl R. Nelson

Sheryl R. Nelson of Fayetteville died Sunday, January 11, 2015.

She is preceded in death by her parents William Donald and Lenore Ann Runge.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, the Rev. Michael Nelson of Fayetteville; daughter Heather N. and her husband Chip Porter of Fayetteville; sons Kyle Nelson and his wife Elizabeth of Fayetteville, and Cameron Nelson and his wife Helena of Carteret County; sister Linell R. and her husband Thomas Clark of Hampstead; grandchildren Ean Gaskins, Caleb Nelson, Emma Nelson, Jacob Nelson, Skyler Nelson; and step-grandchildren Michael Porter, Patrick Dudley.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church 6800 Arabia Road, Lumber Bridge.

A memorial service will be held at noon Thursday, January 15,2015 at Sandy Grove United Methodist  Church.

Rebecca Clayton

Rebecca Ford Jones Clayton, 94, born on September 12, 1920, passed away January 8, 2015. Born in Raleigh, she resided in Bunn.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a blessing and joy for all that knew her.  She loved people, traveling and art.                                    

She was preceded in death by William Vance Jones, father of JoAnn Jones Meade and Jackie Jones Davis, and by Roy Everette Clayton; sister, Dorothy Ford Thomas; and brother, Russell S. Ford.  She is survived by daughters JoAnn Jones Meade and husband Aubrey L. Meade, Jackie Jones Davis, husband Vance H. Davis; grandchildren,  Aubrey L. Meade Jr (Lily), Elizabeth Meade Sanne (Steve), Bryan Keith Davis, William Kevin Davis (Lisa) and Kimberly Dawn Matthews; and great-grandchildren, Shane Michael Sanne, Joshua Robert Sanne (Jamie), Kyrsten A. Ellis, Kaylen D. Ellis, Justin L. Ellis and William E. Davis.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home in Raleigh. Private family interment was at the Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

Cynthia J. Anderson

Cynthia J. Anderson, 62, of Raeford, died Thursday evening, Jan. 8, 2015, in First Health Hospice House.
Survivors are: her husband, Andy Anderson of the home; son, Jerry Hair and wife Nicole of Coral Springs, Fla.; daughter, Susan Williams and husband Daryl of Hope Mills; two stepdaughters, Annette Marie Griffith and Angel Michelle Keathley, both of San Antonio, Texas; stepson, Alton M. Anderson Jr. of Maryland; five grandchildren, Aaron, Daryl, Cameron, Ashton and Cheyanne; five stepgrandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Emily, Isaiah and Elijah; and two sisters, Cheryl Diane Hyz and Mary Lou Patrick, both of Fayetteville.
The funeral was held, Sunday, Jan. 11, at 3 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren chapel with the Rev. Tim Gore presiding. Burial was in Cross Creek Cemetery No. 3.
