James Attaway

James Ralph Attaway Sr., 87, of Pinehurst, formerly of Raeford, died Thursday, February 5, 2015 at St. Joseph of the Pines in Southern Pines.

Hey was born January 19, 1928 in Jefferson County, Alabama. He retired as a major in the US Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Posey Attaway.

Survivors include his sons, James R. Attaway, Jr. (Stella) of Pinehurst, Robert W. Attaway (Amy) of Little River, South Carolina; and three grandchildren, Vera Attaway, Mitchell Attaway, and Elizabeth Attaway.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Raeford Cemetery with full military honors.

Mary L. Love

Mary Lee Love, 75, of Lumber Bridge, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015.
Survivors are: children, Shelly Tyson, Willie, Jerry, Troy, William, Sampson and Gary; sisters, Nancy Aford, Janie Mae Washington, Mable Beauford, Ester Sanders; brother, James Wells.
The funeral will be held Saturday, February 7 at 1 p.m. in Sandy Grove Life Center. Burial in Sandy Grove Church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 6 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Mary Gilliard

Mary Gilliard, 61, of 146 Dakota Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2015.
Survivors are: children, Cleveland and Shonda; sisters, Sherri German and Carolyn Hansom; brothers, James and Jerome White; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 7 at 1 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Visitation, following the service at the funeral home until 4p.m.

Mary Kate Posey


Mary Kate Posey, 76, of Raeford died Wednesday, February 04, 2015 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
She was born August 28, 1938 in Hoke County to the late Arthur Smith McInnis and Katie Bell Maxwell McInnis.
She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Gray Posey.
She is survived by two sons, Andy Posey and Mark Posey (Ashley), both of Raeford; two grandchildren Whitney Kerler (Bill) of Wilmington, and Savannah Starling (Dustin) of Lumber Bridge; three great-grandchildren, Katherine, Kennedy, and William Kerler; her sister Ann Zeigler of Raleigh; and her beloved dog Rusty.
Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday February 7, 2015 at John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall of Raeford Presbyterian Church.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the church.
Interment will be in Raeford Cemetery.

Alice G. Allen


Alice Gibson Allen of Rockfish died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 87.
She was born in Rockfish to the late Robert Henry Gibson, Sr. and Henrietta Culbreth Gibson. She was the last living child in her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny W. Allen, and her siblings Andrew Lewis Gibson, Allen Culbreth Gibson, William David Gibson, Marie Gibson Fowler, Henrietta Gibson Tanner, Robert Henry Gibson, Jr., Eugene Hodgin Gibson, Kathleen Gibson Garner and Virginia Rose Thornton.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley A. Stika (Keith) and  Sandra D. Allen, both of Goose Creek, South Carolina, and Teresa J. Allen of Wilson; sister-in-law Barbara Gibson of Shelby; and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be 6-8 Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015 at Tabernacle Baptist Church 3219 Lindsay Rd. Raeford.
Interment will be in the Alloway Cemetery, Vance Street, Red Springs.

Paul A. Wall

Paul Albert Wall, 77, of Raeford, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2015.
Survivors are: wife, Jeanie; children, Albert, Billie, Doris Stevenson, Dorothy, Jessie; siblings, Lacy, Lena Simpson, Sarah Dobbins, Donnette Nickolson; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren
The funeral will be held Wednesday, February 4 at 1 p.m. in Freedom Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial will be in church cemetery.
 Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 3 from 1 to 6 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel, Raeford.

The Rev. Andrew J. Watson Jr., 86, of 851 McGilvary Lane, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015.
Survivovrs are: wife, Annie; son, Dorel; sisters, Alice Cromartie and Sarah; brother, Robert; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday, February 2 at 1 p.m. in Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in  the church cemetery.
