Robert E. McRae

Robert E. McRae, 71, 127 Gatlin Farm Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.
Survivors are: wife, Cynthia; children, Monica Newell, Yolinda Copeland, Deshanda Readdy, Timothy Campbell, John Richardson, Robert.
The funeral will be held Saturday, February 14 at  1 p.m. Saturday in Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters. Burial will be in Friendship Grove FWB Church cemetery. 
Visitation will be held FRiday, February 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford with the family present from 6 to 7p.m.

 



Francesca Melvin

Francesca Melvin, 26, of 2482 N. Hilltop Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015.
Survivors are: mother, Debra Purcell; stepfather, Jerome Purcell; and sisters, Errika Harrington, Joann and Porchea.
The funeral will be held Saturday, February 14 at  3 p.m.  in McLauchlin Chapel AME Zion Church in Raeford. Burial will be in Freedom Chapel AME Zion Church cemetery in Raeford. 
Visitation will be held Friday, February 13 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Emil Kunschman

Emil Henry "Ed" Kunschman, Jr. of 2520 N. Horace Walters Rd. Raeford, died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 85.

He was born July 5, 1929 in Buffalo, New York to the late Emil Henry Kunschman and Helen Carla Kunschman. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was employed with the Pilot Newspaper.

He is survived by his wife Olia Mary Kunschman of Raeford; three sons, Craig Kunschman, Keith Kunschman both of Maryland, and Eddie Kunschman of Texas; two daughters, Elizabeth Jarvis and Lurine Kunschman, both of Maryland, and a special daughter, Sherry Akers of Aberdeen; brother George Kunschman of Florida; a sister, Elizabeth Lara of Florida; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held later.

Harold L. Gillis

Harold L. Gillis, of Laurinburg, formerly of Raeford, died Sunday, February 8th 2015 at age 88.

He was born December 1, 1926 in Raeford to A.C. and Ethel Guin Gillis. He was married to Peggy Monroe Gillis for 62 years. He graduated from Hoke High School. After serving in the U.S. Army, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated in 1956 with a B.S. in Accounting. He continued to be an avid Tar Heel supporter. After college, he entered into business. In 1970, he was employed by the Hoke County School System and later became the Vocational director. He retired in 1992. During his tenure, he served as president of the N.C. Association of School Administrators.

His life has been one of service to God and his fellow man.

In Hoke County, he contributed his time and service in many capacities. He was a county commissioner, chairman of the Democratic Party, president and member of the Chamber of Commerce, president and Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis Club, Committee of 100 and Mill Prong. While in the Kiwanis Club he was elected Citizen of the Year in 1964. In 2003, he received the Man of the Year award from the Hoke County Chamber of Commerce.

He was a faithful and dedicated member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church for more than 65 years. He served as a deacon, elder, president of Men of the Church, clerk and vice-moderator of the Session, member of the Pastor Search Committee, commissioner to the General Assembly, commissioner to Presbytery and Synod and member and chair of many committees. He was recognized for his long and dedicated service to God and Church and received the honor of Elder Emeritus in 2007.

While a resident at Scotia Village, he served as president of the Resident's Association. He was one of many who worked diligently to get the addition of the Fitness Center and served on other committees.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11 at Raeford Presbyterian Church. Visitation with the family will be immediately following the service and at Scotia Village, Laurinburg on Wednesday February 11 at 3 p.m. in the Morris Morgan Room.

He is survived by his wife Peggy M. Gillis; son, Lee Gillis and wife Jude Hirsch; daughter, Susan Gillis Bailey; and granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Gillis.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Watson Gillis.

Woodrow McDougald

Woodrow "Woodie" McDougald, 87, died Saturday, February 07, 2015 in Moses Cone Hospital.

He was born in Robeson County on October 31, 1927 to the late Daniel A. McDougald and Lillie Shaw McDougald. He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Potter McDougald. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired as an engineer for UNC-TV.

He is survived by his son, Mark A. McDougald and his wife Wanda of Savanna, Georgia; his two grandchildren, Trinity McDougald, and Katelyn M. Roberts; a step-grandchild, Sean Timmons; and a great-grandson, Charlie Roberts.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford.

The funeral will begin at 11 a.m. following the visitation at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs.

Geraldine Williams

Geraldine Williams went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the age of 66.
She was born in Germany on April 12, 1948 to the late James and Judy Hoffpauir.
She is survived by one daughter, Kimberly D. Williams and her husband Brian of Lumber Bridge.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
