Frank Garrison

Alonzo Franklin Garrison was called home by His heavenly Father on November 6, 2015.  He was born on February 4, 1947 in Hoke County to the late Arvil and Jessie Garrison.  He was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Marine Corps from 1967-71. 

For seventeen and a half years, he worked with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, before following the Lord's leading to preach the gospel in 1993.  He graduated from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with an Associate of Divinity degree in 1995.  He served as pastor for several churches throughout North Carolina. 

He was married to Lois Garrison until her death in 1987 and married Anna Jordan Garrison a year later.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Carol Capel and Mary Fairfield.  He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Amy Graham; his son-in-law, Lon Graham; his grandchildren, Lainey, Sarah Grace, Abby, and Joey Graham; his sister-in-law, Kelly Jordan; his sisters Betty Gray, Barbara Hurst, and Jessie Garrison; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.  His memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and we look forward to a blessed reunion with him in the presence of Jesus. 

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Raeford on Sunday, November 8 from 6-8 p.m.  The funeral will be held at First Baptist Church in Raeford on Monday, November 9 at 2 p.m. The service will be conducted by Rev. Lon A. Graham and Rev. Thomas J. Lee.  Interment will be at the Raeford Cemetery at 4:30.  Memorials may be made to First Baptist Christian Academy of Raeford.

Blance Hedgpeth

Blanche Hedgpeth of Raeford died, Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Open Arms Retirement Center at the age of 100.

She was born in Robeson County on September 6, 1915 to the late English and Maggie Walters Floyd. She was a faithful member of the Raeford First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, M.V. Hedgpeth and her sons, Charles Hedgpeth and Bobby Hedgpeth.

She is survived by her sons, Jimmy Hedgpeth of Laurinburg, Vardell Hedgpeth and his wife, Janeth of Raeford, and Steve Hedgpeth and his wife, Jane of Raeford; three sisters, Emily Sephens of N. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Sadie Shannon of Little River, South Carolina, and Sarah Brooks and her husband, Bill of Whiteville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home-Raeford.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Raeford First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Lee, the Rev. James Wilhide and the Rev. Sanders Read officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Edit B. Nixon

Edith Bell (Badgett) Nixon, 89, of Aberdeen passed on November 2, 2015 at the FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.  

She was born July 20, 1926 in Surry County, North Carolina to the late Hoyt Lee Badgett and Ruby Annie (Denny) Badgett. She was a long time member of the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, Easter Star, and The Garden Club.  She loved flowers, embroidering and enjoyed traveling. 

She was preceded in death by her husband James Robert Nixon and a daughter, Ann Nixon Lindenfeld and infant daughter Harriett Gail.
She is survived by her son, Harold Robert Nixon and wife Faye of Sumter, South Carolina; A daughter, Peggy Nixon Frye and husband John of Southern Pines; two brothers, Jack W. Badgett and wife Betty of North Wilkesboro, and Ray Badgett and wife Sue of Martinsville, Virginia; five sisters, Annie Lee Wall and husband Edgar of Siloam, Madge Mills and husband Alton of Ararat, Dorothy Scott of Pilot Mountain,  Gladys Shuler of Rural Hall, and Edna Wilmoth and husband Wayne of Elkin; six grandchildren, Terri Welborn and husband Bryan, Melinda Wallace and husband Justin, Danny McDiarmid and wife Meredith, Kenny McDiarmid and friend Paula, Leslie Cribb and husband Landon, and Jonathan Flinchum; and six great-grandchildren.

A visitation with family and friends will be held from 1 to 2 P p.m. on Wednesday, November 4th 2015 with services starting at 2 p.m. at the Shiloh Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Rufus McLean and the Rev. Sanders Read officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in memory of Edith Nixon to FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care at 150 Applecross Road Pinehurst, NC 28374 or to a charity of one's choice.

Paul A. Crittenden Jr.

Paul Albert "Butch" Crittenden Jr., 71, passed away peacefully on Oct. 27, 2015.
He was a resident of South Daytona Beach, Florida for 30 years. He was born in Suffolk, son of the late Paul and Hilda Crittenden. He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of South Daytona Beach; a son, Paul A. "Al" Crittenden III; two grandsons, Shawn Crittenden and Paul A. "A.J." Crittenden of Raeford; two sisters, Paulette C. Moore and husband Wesley of Suffolk, and Louise Whedbee and husband Jimmie of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Roger Dale Crittenden Sr.; a sister-in-law, Phyllis of Suffolk; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved bird, Slick.
A private memorial service will be held later.

George R. Nickelson

George Robert Nickelson, 84, of Raeford, died Sunday, October 25, 2015. 
The funeral was held Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m., St. John Baptist Church. Burial was in church cemetery.

Jimmie Burns, 74, of Raeford, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015.
The funeral will be held Monday, November 2 at 1 p.m. in Leach Springs Church Cemetery. Burial will be in Leach Springs Church Cemetery.
