Melva B. West

Melva B. West, age 84, of Aberdeen, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, June 20, 2016.

She was born to Lillian Hailey Hodges and Melvin Geno Hodges in Surry County, October 28, 1931. She married William E. (Bill) West on July 4, 1951. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, brother Bobby Brown, sister Dorothy McMillan, and sister Betty Mims. She graduated from Hoke High School and lived and worked for many years in Raeford,­ first at Burlington Industries and later at Raeford Dry Cleaners. She and Bill moved to Moore County in 1972. She worked until her retirement at Carters Dry Cleaners in Southern Pines. She was a long-time Sunday school teacher at Bible Tabernacle Church where she taught and watched so many of her little ones grow up, marry, and have children of their own. 

She is survived by her daughter Billie Sue Clippard (Chip) of Aberdeen; granddaughters, Melody Mills of Cullowhee, and Meagan Severance (Scott) of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Tyler Prather (Kaitlyn) of Clover, South Carolina, Ashleigh, Mckenzie, and CJ Mills of Aberdeen, and Walker and Sydney Severance of Knoxville; sisters Margaret Pope of Aberdeen, Patricia Patermoster of Wolcott, Connecticut, and sister­-in­-law Mildred Brown of Aberdeen; and aunts Gray Garrett and Judy Martin. She also left behind many very special nieces and nephews.

A small, informal graveside service will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at the Bible Tabernacle Church Cemetery in Whispering Pines at 11 a.m.
