Earlie Mae Smith

Erlie Mae Smith of Raeford died Thursday, August 18, 2016 in her home at the age of 90.

She was born in Robeson County on August 11, 1926 to the late Fuller and Ruth Barnhill McDowell. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Oscar Barefoot and John Smith. 

She was a member of the Raeford First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sister, Geneva McKeithan of Raeford; her stepson, John C. Smith Jr. (Sharon) of Raeford; her stepdaughter, Ruthie Watson (Elbert) of Tar Heel; her nieces, Faye Duggins (Gary) of Trininty, Shirley Coltrane (Jim) of New London, Pat Sykes (Danny) of Mt. Carmel, Tennessee, and Gail Beasley (Larry) of Sanford; and her nephew Bobby McDowell (Audrey) of Raeford.

Visitation will be held at Raeford First Baptist Church on Saturday, August 20 1-2 p.m.

The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Rev. Tom Lee and Rev. Bobby McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Danny Sykes officiating.

Edgar Marvin Johnson Sr.

Edgar Marvin Johnson Sr., age 89, of Rose Hill, died on August 17, 2016 at his residence. 
He was the founder of House of Raeford Farms.
He was born on September 4, 1926 in Duplin County to the late Nash Johnson and Mary Susan Cowan Johnson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Grace Powell Johnson; his brother, Bizzell David Johnson; his sister, Mary Johnson Norman; his son, Edgar Marvin Johnson Jr.; and two grandchildren, Edgar William Johnson and James Bailey Johnson.
He served in the Merchant Marines from 1944-1946. He enjoyed music, dancing and playing golf. 
He is survived by his children, Diane Johnson Beasley and husband Dennis Neal Beasley, Robert Cowan Johnson and wife Luanne Reynolds Johnson and Maryanna Johnson; his grandchildren, Lon Jackson Beasley, Natalie Beasley Brantley, Mary Susan Beasley, Robert Cowan Johnson II, Nash Julian Johnson, Carol Luanne Reynolds Johnson, James Johnson Carr, Barbara Grace Carr, Curtis Ruddle Carr, Anna Carr Leonard, Suzi Lambertson Peak and Gray Canty Melvin; great-grandchildren, Lon Jackson Beasley II, Brooks McDonald Beasley, Grace Carroll Brantley, Tucker Stone Brantley, ViviAnn Thomas Johnson, Willa Grace Johnson, Robert Cowan Johnson III, Allie Parrish Johnson, Brianna Marie Carr, Lailyn Faith Carr, Hannah Grace Carr, James Johnson Carr II, Charis Elizabeth Carr, and Robert Lawrence Leonard IV; and his sisters, Geraldine Johnson Cashwell and Joy Johnson Davis. 
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 18 from 6-9 p.m. at Rose Hill United Methodist Church. The funeral will be held on Friday, August 19 at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Reginald Ponder. Burial will be at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery in Wallace. Casket bearers will be his grandsons, Lon Jackson Beasley, Robert Cowan Johnson II, Nash Julian Johnson, James Johnson Carr, Curtis Ruddle Carr and Gray Canty Melvin. Honorary casket bearers will be Leon Wells, Wendell Holmes Murphy Jr., William (Bill) Prestage and Adrian Mejia.

Lela Pearl McNair, 90, of Raeford, formerly of Aberdeen, who died Wednesday, August 10
The funeral was held Saturday, August 13 at 2 p.m. in Cool Spring United Methodist Church in Laurinburg.  
Burial was in Serenity Memorial Park, Raeford.

Braxton Willoughby

Braxton Willoughby of Red Springs passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 in his home at the age of 86.

He was born December 17, 1929 in Robeson County to the late William Franklin Willoughby and Mary Pauline Bass Willoughby.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Francene Willoughby. He was a founding member of New Harvest Church of God in Red Springs. He was employed with Burlington Industries in Raeford, for 43 years , with perfect attendance, before he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Thelma Caulder Willoughby of Red Springs; three sons, Bruce Willoughby (Bedi) of Rockfish, Wallace Willoughby (Michele) of Lumberton, and Matthew Willoughby (Ardene) of Red Springs; two daughters, Rudene W. McDougald (Danny) of Rockingham, and Myra W. Robinson (Mike) of Red Springs; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Furman Willoughby (Ann) of Lumberton.

Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home 220 E. 4th Ave. Red Springs.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Alloway Cemetery.
