MayBelle Currie

MayBelle (Peg) Currie passed away on October 10, 2017. She was 96 when she died and had been living in the View Pointe Senior Living Facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado for the last three years.
She was born on May 6, 1921 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She spent most of her early years in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Sr High in 1939.  During World War II and the Korean War she worked at the Grand Island Munitions Depot making armaments to support the war effort.  In March of 1947 she married Robert (Bob) Henwood at Randolph Field outside of San Antonio, Texas. In January of 1950 she gave birth to her first child, Paul, at Offutt AFB, Nebraska.  In February of 1952 she and Bob divorced and Peg moved back to Grand Island.  Then in August of 1956, she married her long-lost sweetheart, David Currie, whom she had first met and dated in the early years of World War II when Dave was stationed at Kearney Field in Kearney, Nebraska.  They were married in Grand Island and moved to Chicago where Dave was stationed.  In December of 1957 she gave birth to her second child, Linda, at Itazuke Air Base, Japan. When her husband Dave retired from the Air Force in 1963, they moved back to Dave's hometown of Raeford, building their home on the family farm.  Dave died in September of 1990 and Peg remained in Raeford until 1996 when she moved close to her son, Paul, in Colorado Springs.
She was an outgoing loveable person who enjoyed life to the fullest; traveling and being with her family and friends.  She especially loved spending time with her two children and their spouses, plus her four grandchildren. She had many close friends whom she also dearly loved both in Raeford and in Colorado Springs.
She is survived by her son, Paul Currie and his wife Gayle of Colorado Springs, Colorado; their son Andrew Currie and his girlfriend Genevieve Lyells of Las Vegas, Nevada and their soon to be son, Colson Michael; her daughter Linda Brafford and her husband Paul of Marietta, Georgia; their son Will Brafford and his wife Amanda of Atlanta, Georgia and soon to be son, John Paul; and their daughter Jessica Hooker and her husband Chris of Dallas, Georgia and their son Scott Michael.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Raeford Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Steven Fitzgerald officiating.
