Cora Lee Graham

Cora Lee Graham died January 27, 2017 at the age of 98 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Born March 29, 1918, she was the daughter of Arletha Graham.

After the passing of her mother at an early age Cora was raised in Hoke County by her uncle Lacie Graham and aunt Parthenia Graham. She was a farm laborer and homemaker that took care of four generations of children and captured the hearts of everyone that met her precious spirit.  

She is survived by Viola Earl, Annie McGeachy (Joel), and Audrey Graham Baldwin.

The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. at Buie Funeral Home. Burial was at Friendship Grove Cemetery.

Rev. Jenne Mae Allen

Rev. Jennie Mae Allen died January 31, 2017 at the age of 70.

Born November 28, 1946, she was preceded in death by her best friend and husband, Bobby Gene Allen; her parents, J.D. McGeachy Sr. and Mary Smith McGeachy; her siblings, J.D. (Vera) McGeachy Jr., Annie Lee (Daniel) Wilson, Mary Louise Allen, L.C. McGeachy, Fred McGeachy, Stella Mae Jackson, and Martha Ruth Beatty.

She is survived by children, Genise Merchel Allen Menefield (Reverend Michael) of Westerville, Ohio, Elder James Robert Allen (Angel) of Raeford, and Bobby Antonio "Tony" Allen of Raeford; 11 grandchildren, Minister Cory Allen (who Jennie and Bobby considered their son and who was their long-time caregiver), Darrius Allen, Melody Menefield, Akera Allen, Mya Menefield, Ashanti Allen, Q'Monte Allen, Sa'Niya Allen, Michaela Menefield, Ayana Allen, Elijah Allen, and Davyus Allen; and one great-grandchild, Alanna Allen.

She is also survived by her siblings, who include Betty Peterkin (Billy) and Joel McGeachy (Annie) of Raeford.

The funeral was held Sunday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m. at Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Red Springs.

Carol Dean McPhatter

Carol Dean McPhatter died February 4, 2017 at the age of 69. She was born March 10, 1947.

Visitation will be held at Buie Funeral Home Wednesday, Feb. 8 6-7 p.m. in the chapel. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at St James United Church of God. Committal will be Feb. 9 at 3:30 p.m. at McLaughlin Chapel Cemetery in Raeford.

Barbar Ann Kelly

Barbara Ann Kelly died February 5 at the age of 43. She was born May 2, 1973.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Feb. 9 from 1-6 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home Chapel in Raeford.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. with committal at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10. Other details are incomplete.

Sally Ann McLean

Sally Ann McLean died February 6, 2017 at the age of 93. She was born January 6, 1924.

She is survived by her daughter Carrie Stephens.

Visitation is Friday, Feb. 10 from 1-6 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home Chapel in Raeford.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Red Springs.

Committal will follow the funeral at Center Grove Cemetery.

William "Billy" Monroe

William L. "Billy" Monroe of Raeford, formerly of Red Springs, died Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the age of 78.

He was born in Hoke County on February 20, 1938 to the late Clarence Patrick Monroe and Katherine McBryde Monroe. He retired from the U.S. Postal service as the postmaster of the Red Springs Post Office. After retirement he owned and operated Red Springs Auto Sales and Highway 211 Mini Storage in Red Springs.

He leaves behind his wife, Felecia Prince Monroe of Raeford; his daughter, Catherine Womble of Raeford; his stepchildren, Larry Phillips of Holden Beach, Teresa Richardson and her husband, Mickey of Red Springs, and Pam Shooter of Lumberton; his stepbrother, Eddie Phillips of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.

The funeral will begin at 2 p.m.in the funeral home chapel with The Rev. Dr. Ray Harris and The Rev. Tom Lee officiating. Entombment will be in the Alloway Cemetery in Red Springs following the service.
