Jose Vigil

Jose S. Vigil (CW5 Retired) of Raeford passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2015 at the FirstHealth Hoke Campus at the age of 64.

He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 26, 1952. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and retired after 35 years as a Chief Warrant Officer 5. After retirement, he continued his service to the country as a Department of the Army civilian. He was preceded in death by his father, Isadore Vigil and his stepfather, Joseph Sedlar.

He is survived by his wife, Lynda Avriett of Raeford; his daughter, Vanessa Hoang and her husband, Khoa of Tucson, Arizona; his stepson, Rob Avriett and his wife, Joanna of Knoxville, Tennessee; his mother, Rose Sedlar of Santa Fe; his brothers, The Honorable Michael Vigil and his wife, Terry of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and John Sedlar and William Sedlar, both of Santa Fe; and two grandchildren, Liam and Noel.

A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary, 6199 Fayetteville Road, Raeford.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass and other times at the home.

John D. Mclaughlin Sr.

John Daniel McLaughlin Sr., 86, of Greensboro, formerly of Raeford, died on Friday, February 10, 2017.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 2- 3 p.m. in Perry J. Brown Funeral Home located at 909 E. Market St., Greensboro.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 1 p.m. in Walls Chapel United Methodist Church, 5450 Laurinburg Rd., Raeford. Burial will be held in McLaughlin Family Cemetery, Raeford. Purcell Funeral Home of Laurinburg is serving the family.

Anani Charlesworth

Anani Miroslava Charlesworth of Raeford passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 58.

She was born on October 5, 1958 in Panama to the late Gaudioso Acevedo and Olga Maria Castillo. She touched many people in her life, often times putting the needs of others ahead of her own. A hard worker all of her life, she always made time to make sure her family was taken care of. Even after becoming a naturalized citizen here in the United States, she never forgot where she came from and how proud she was to be from Panama.

She leaves behind her children, Jose Charlesworth and his wife, Dalphne of Anchorage, Alaska, Katherine Charlesworth of Raeford, and John Charlesworth of Fairbanks, Alaska; loving father of her children, Robert Charlesworth of Raeford; her brothers, Osvaldo Acevedo Castillo, and Jose Acevedo Castillo; and her sisters, Betsy Solis Castillo and Olga Solis Castillo.

A visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

Larry Stanley

Larry Ray Stanley, age 69, of Aurora, Missouri, formerly of Raeford, passed away at 6:46 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He was born July 28, 1947, in Durham, the son of William and Helen (Hill) Stanley.
He was a 1965 graduate of Northern High School in Durham,  and graduated from North Carolina State University in 1970 and again in 1978.  He was a turkey hatchery manager for 30 years in Missouri, Texas, and North Carolina including at Cuddy Farms (Aurora) and Tarheel (Raeford)  He was an elder and member of the First Presbyterian Church in Aurora, and past member of the Aurora City Council and the Aurora Rotary Club.
On October 7, 1983, he married Debbie Sumners in Aurora.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Debbie; daughter Megan Schiller and her husband, Andy, and their daughter, Katy Schiller of Aurora; his mother, Helen Stanley and sister, Linda Stanley both of Durham; brother-in-law, Pete Sumners and his significant other, Melissa Bilyeu, of Aurora; and an aunt, uncle, nephew, nieces and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Aurora. Burial will be at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora at a later date.  A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.

Rebecca Rainey

Rebecca Sue Keen Rainey, 60, of Raeford, passed away February 7, 2017 at her home. 
She was born January 31, 1957 in Erie, Pennsylvania to the late Everette Keen and Margaret Owens Keen. She was preceded in death by her husband Billy Dwight Rainey. 
She is survived by two brothers, Gary Keen and his wife Bonnie of Moon TWP, Pennsylvania, and James Keen of Franklin, Massachusetts; her nieces, Anna Rodgers of Fort Worth, Texas, Lori Keen Bereznay of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Dawn Keen Ambrose of Colorado; and a nephew, Col.
