Billie Brown

Billie Elizabeth Rose Brown, 74, of Seagrove passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial.
She was born in Hoke County to Carl William and Janie Elizabeth Thompson Rose. She was a member of Leach Road Holiness Church, a member of Star Chapter 111 Order of the Eastern Star, and was retired from Normans Rest Home, where she was the administrator/supervisor.
"Grandma Billie" is survived by her husband, Carl Winfred Brown, of the home; son, Kelsey Brown and wife, Deanne, of Troy; granddaughters, Lauren Brown of Troy, and Brittany Lemons (Jeremy) of Robbins; grandson, Alex Lemons (Emily), of Hillsborough; great-granddaughter, Lyla Monroe; and brother, Donnie Rose (Sue) of Wisconsin.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Phillips Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street, Star and other times at the home.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hubert McLeod and the Rev. Johnny Brown officiating. Interment will be in Biscoe Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.

Alma H. Barefoot

Alma Holt Barefoot of Raeford passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst at the age of 94. 
She was born in Cumberland County on March 27, 1923 to the late Walter B. Holt and Vennie Benson Holt. She is preceded in death by her husband Allen W. Barefoot and her son Billy Barefoot. . 
She was member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for 58 years. She was the owner and operator of the Alpine Mobile Home Trailer Park. 
She is survived by ,a son Lt. Col. Allen W. Barefoot, Jr. (Jane) of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Carolyn B. Rogers of Richmond, Virginia and Shirley B. Warfield of Raeford; a sister, Ida Florence Register of Fayetteville; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great-granddaughter.
A visitation will be held 4-6 Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford. 
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Hillcrest Baptist Church 2699 Hwy 401 Bus., Raeford, with Pastor Toby Neal officiating. 
Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.

Jesse B. Miller

Jesse Bryan Miller 83, of Raeford passed away April 6, 2017 at Autumn Care of Fayetteville. 
He was born in Hoke County on July 20, 1933 to the late Jesse Vernon Miller and Maude Arnette Miller. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Miller Sr., Frank Miller, Clifford Miller, Pauline Cumber, Joyce Griffin and Mary West. He was the organist for Philadelphus Presbyterian Church for 23 years. 
He is survived by his sister Patti Roberts and her husband James of Raeford, and several nieces and nephews. 
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Linda Watson

Linda Mercer Watson of Raeford passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the age of 78. 
She was born April 22, 1938 in Robeson County to the late Edwin A. Mercer and Julia Hilburn Campbell. She was preceded in death by her husband James Watson and her sister Ann Mercer Barnett. 
She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was employed with the Raeford News-Journal before she retired. 
She is survived by her sons, Joel Blanton (Kim Wheeless) of Garner, and Barry Blanton (Janie) of Texas; daughters, Judith B. Quarles (Michael) of Monroe, Betsy Quinn (Shawn) of Tennessee, and Shannon Phelps (Jeff) of Raeford; sons, James Watson Jr. (Melody) of California, and Jeffrey Tommy Watson of Missouri; daughter, Stephanie W. Henderson of Raeford; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren 
A visitation will be held 2-3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Hillcrest Baptist Church 2699 Hwy 401 Bus., Raeford. 
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Hillcrest Baptist Church. 
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2699 Hwy 401 Bus, Raeford, NC 28376. 

Anna Clark

Anna Clark passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 in Baptist Medical Center Nassau. At the time of her death she was living in Fernandina Beach, Florida. She was born in Raleigh November 5, 1926 and lived 30 years of her adult life in Raeford where she raised her four children and was active in Raeford Presbyterian Church. Following the death of her husband, Furman O Clark Sr. in 1983 she moved to many different places in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her son, Bill Clark. Surviving family members are Furman Clark Jr. (Lala), Susan Clark, and Cary Clark (Lisa); four grandsons, Trip Clark (Mandy), Russ Clark (Marlyne), Nicholas Clark, and Jordan Clark; three great-grandsons, Sam Clark, D.J. Clark and Trevor Clark; and two sisters, Mary Carothers and Patricia Adams.
Greenlawn Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Florida is serving the family. A private memorial service will be held at a later date at First Presbyterian Church in Fernandina Beach. Burial will be in the Clark Family Cemetery in Inez, North Carolina.

Sara Conoly

Sara Vernice Dees Conoly of Raeford passed away Monday April 3, 2017 in her home at the age of 81. 
She was born March 23, 1936 in Cumberland County to the late Robert Yates Dees and Mary Davis Dees. She is preceded in death by her brothers Jimmy Dees, Ken Dees and Frank Dees, and her sister Linda Lovette Jackson. She was a member of Raeford Presbyterian Church and the Raeford Garden Club. 
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert (Bobby) Lawrence Conoly of Raeford; a son, Lawrence Conoly and his wife Teresa of Rocky Point; a daughter, Angela C. Stone and her husband Dennis of Little River, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Kris Martell (Manny), Stephen McNeill (Natalia), Jessica McQueen (John), and Shannon Bryant (Jon Paul); five great-grandchildren, Adam, Justin, Dominic, Kristabella, and Sienna; four brothers, Dan Dees (Marguerite) of Raeford, Allen Dees (Lona) of Fayetteville, Malcolm Dees ( Brenda) of Hillsboro, and Donnie Dees (Ruth) of Eastover; and two sisters, Joyce Davis (Bob) of Parkton, and Allene Stiffel (Art) of Margate, Florida. 
A visitation will be held 1:30-3 p.m. Thursday, April 6, 2017 in the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall at Raeford Presbyterian Church.  
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Dr. Steven Fitzgerald and the Rev. Bobby Bunce officiating. 
Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery. 
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Raeford Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Hospice Foundation of Hoke County.

Edna Capps

Edna Marie Cummings Capps of Raeford passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Medical Center at the age of 74. 
She was born in Robeson County on October 6, 1942 to the late Jack and Annie Mae Jacobs Cummings. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Sandra Capps and Diana Capps. 
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Earl Capps of Raeford; her daughters, Teresa Capps Conoly and her husband, Lawrence of Rocky Point, Xan Capps Allen and her husband, Charles of Raeford, and Earlina Marie Capps of Raeford; her son, Robert E. Capps Jr. of Raeford; her brother, Glenn Graham of Pembroke; her sisters, Janice Bond of Jacksonville, and Gainer Dover of Pembroke; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford and at other times at the home of Charles and Xan Allen, 813 N. Main Street in Raeford. 
The funeral will held at 3 p.m. Wednesday following the visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Walter B. Harrell

Walter Brian Harrell Sr. of Raeford passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 45.

He was born in Scotland County on October 4, 1971. He was a loving husband, father, son, and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Priest Harrell, and his maternal grandparents, Walter and Thelma L. Priest.

He leaves behind his wife, Amanda of Raeford; his children, Walter Brian Harrell Jr. of Hamlet, and Erica Renee Harrell of Raeford; his father, Doc Harrell of Raeford; his brother, Benji Harrell Jr.  of Rockingham; his sisters, Sharon Graham of Raeford, and Lisa Scott of Laurel Hill; his nieces and nephews, Crystal Goins, Chris Graham, Ben Harrell III, Taylor Jones, Jamie Harrell, Heather Hines, and Cassey Hines; and his adored pets, Bailey and Precious.

The family will receive friends at Crumpler Funeral Home on Saturday, April 8th from 6-8 p.m,.
