Marshall J. Bullard

Marshall J. Bullard of Raeford died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center on Friday, January 28, 2022 at age 75.
He was born on February 2, 1946. He was the operator of G & A Electrical Company before he retired.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Ann Bullard, his former wife and mother of his children Deborah Bullard and his sister Geneva Bullard Edens.
He is survived by two sons, Edward (Eddie) Bullard and his wife Joyce of Raeford, and Bryan Bullard of Raeford; four grandchildren, Kyle Davis, Deanna Bullard, and her husband Weston, Tyler Bullard and his wife Carmella, and Cody Bullard; one great-granddaughter, Paisley Douglas; and a sister, Leer Pittman and her husband Dewey of Laurinburg.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home, Raeford.
The funeral will be held at 2 pm.. Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gerald Oldham officiating.
Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Faye B. Jordan

Faye Baker Jordan died at her home on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at age 95.
She was born in Cumberland County on April 4, 1926 to the late Walter Presley Baker and Faye Theresa Oliver Baker. 
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Raeford. She was a guidance counselor for the Hoke County School System for 20 years. She was a loving and devoted mother and will be remembered for her generosity and kindness
he was preceded in death by her son, Walter "Wally" Baker Jordan, and her sister, Phyllis Baker McNeill..
She is survived by three sons, Mike Jordan and his wife Beth of Georgetown, South Carolina, Bob Jordan and his wife Amy of Cary, and John Jordan and his wife Polly of Raeford; three daughters, Beth Foster and her husband Bill of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Kim Williamson and her husband Don of Ocean Isle Beach, and Suzanne McGougan and her husband Joe of Elgin, South Carolina; 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. 
A private graveside service will be held Sunday.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Wendell Young

Wendell Young died at his home on January 25, 2022. 
He was born in Forest City to Chester Cau Young and Carmie Leoria Wilkerson Young on January 6, 1923. 
He served in World War II from 1943-45 under General George Patton in the 2nd Calvary as one of the Ghosts of Patton's Army. He was awarded two silver stars and a Russian Medal of Honor for his service and bravery behind enemy lines. He liked to regale his family and friends with stories of playing softball with Generals Eisenhower, Patton, Bradley, and English Field Marshal Montgomery.  Graduating from N.C. State University in 1950 with a degree in Animal Science, he married his wife, Sally, the same year. He worked with the NC Cooperative Extension Service for 31 years. He began another career as a crop insurance adjustor for the US Department of Agriculture and private insurance companies, working until his mid-90's. 
He served in many leadership roles in the Raeford community. He served as a member at Raeford United Methodist Church, the Kiwanis Club, and as the Chairman of the Board for the Children's Developmental Center in Raeford. In recognition of his service to his country, a letter was read before Congress by a representative to the US House. He also was a recipient of the North Carolina Order of the Long leaf Pine in recognition of his extraordinary service to his state.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Grey Herring, grandson, Alan Powers Young, and daughter in-law Janice Powers Young. 
He is survived by his sons, Wendell (Sam) Young Jr. and wife Jenell, and Timothy Alan Young; granddaughter, Rachel H. Young and husband, Justin McGehee. 
A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Children's Developmental Center of Raeford.

Infant Carter Nkrumah

Infant Carter Okello Nkrumah unexpectedly died Saturday, January 22, 2022.
He was born in Winston-Salem on December 3, 2021.
He will be deeply missed by his parents, Nicole Marie Mitchell of Raeford, formerly of Springfield, Massachusetts, and Johnson Nkrumah of New Britain, Connecticut; maternal grandparents Shelley Mitchell Bowens and Frederick Bowens of Winston-Salem, and Robert Mitchell and his wife Kimberly of Anderson, South Carolina; maternal great-grandparents Ken and Bunny Couch of Randleman; paternal grandparents, Peggy Marie Davis of Springfield, Massachusetts, and Awuah Nkrumah of West Springfield, Massachusetts; and four brothers, Jahari Nkrumah of New Brittan, and Julian Nkrumah, Logan Nkrumah and August Nkrumah all of Raeford. 
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022, from 1-3 p.m. pm at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford.
The funeral will follow at 3 p.m at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Burns officiating.

Danny Connell

Danny Dale Connell, 84, of Cornelius, formerly of Raeford, died Saturday, January 22, 2022 with family by his side.
He was born in Union County on June 2, 1937 to Charlie Jackson Connell and Amanda Lou Conder Connell.
He graduated Hoke High School, attended Mars Hill College, completed study at DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago, and was in service to the United States as an officer of the Army National Guard.
He started his work life as a teenager establishing and operating The ChatterBox drive-in with siblings, Avery and June, continuing his career with stops at Scotland Oil Co. and Integon Insurance before joining Avery at Avery Connell Agency, Inc and establishing Just Auto Inc.
He was an avid fisherman with many evenings spent on the government lakes, local ponds and fall weekends surf fishing the shores of Huntington Beach, South Carolina, and the North Carolina Outer Banks with Mazelle.  He loved camping and traveling the East Coast with Mazelle and the girls in the family pop up camper.  As a founding member of the Franklin Mint, he furthered his love of collectables which began as a teenager collecting coins.  Christmas was his favorite holiday, and he and Mazelle began collecting Dept 56 pieces in the early years of this company.  As his Christmas house collection grew, he used his artistic talents and creative mind to erect stunning displays of snowy Christmas village scenes.  In his retirement years, he felt his true calling was being the family historian.  He spent countless hours researching, organizing, categorizing, and documenting generations of family members with Ancestry and Family Tree amassing more than 22,000 names, dates and documents of the Connell/Conder and Goodwin/Peele families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mazelle Goodwin Connell; brother Charles Avery Connell; and sister, Beverly June Spera.  He is survived by daughters, Sharon Lynn Mullen (Troy) of Fuquay Varina, Dana Dale Connell of Cornelius, and Paula Connell Venkus (Chris) of Cornelius; brother, William Tommy Connell of Raeford; grandchildren, Zachary Christopher Venkus, Matthew Henry Venkus both of Cornelius, and Ashley Elizabeth Mullen of Fuquay Varina.
Visitation will be held 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Crumpler Funeral Home, Raeford.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Raeford Cemetery with Pastor Sam Robinson officiating.
