Virginia McColl

Virginia Monroe McColl died March 31, 2018 with her family by her side. Born in Hoke County during the Great Depression she knew about surviving in hard times, losing her mother at the age of five and caring for her blind father. She was one of six children born to Thomas Henry Monroe and Lillian McMillan Monroe. She enjoyed researching her genealogy with her sister and discovering that her Scottish lineage settled in the Cape Fear River basin area which is now Pope Air Force Base. When the government secured their property, they moved their home to Hoke County. Through her heritage she gained her membership in "Liberty Point Daughters of the American Revolution" and the "Society of the Descendants of the Colonial Clergy."
She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Rockfish where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union. She was also a past member of the Home Extension Club. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Henry Thomas McColl and a grandson, Thomas Reed Jones; 2 brothers, Thomas Henry Jr. and James Alexander; and 2 sisters, Ana Bella and Frances Elizabeth Monroe. She is survived by her daughters, Carrie M. Posey (Butch), Linda M. Hall (Robert) of Autryville, Susan Diane McColl, Kimberly M. Hopson (Vaughn) of Clayton, and sons, Henry Thomas McColl Jr. (Malinda) and John Kevin McColl (Michele). She is survived by 8 grandchildren, Christi Posey Boahn, Jennifer Posey Powell, Caleb and Jason Jones, Adam and Jonathan McColl, Virginia and Christopher Hopson and 5 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Cody, Hunter, Logan and Braden. She is also survived by her sister, Katherine N. Shuman of Orlando Fl., several nieces and nephews and her faithful companion, Dottie. 
Visitation will be held Monday, April 2, 2018 from 7-9 pm at Crumpler Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3219 Lindsay Road, Raeford NC, Burial will be in the church cemetery.
