Burleigh B. Thompson

Burleigh B. Thompson of Raeford died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 in FirstHealth Moore Regional at the age of 77.
He was born in Richmond County on September 27, 1936 to the late Charles and Viola Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Jenette Campbell Thompson and his son, Garry A. Thompson. He was a member of the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church in Raeford and worked with the NCDOT as an inspector before retiring in 2000. He was a member and mentor with A.A. He served in the NC National Guard and was an avid gardener.
He is survived by his companion, Ruby H. Wiggins of Raeford; his son, Jackie M. Thompson of Raeford; his daughter, Deborah T. McKenzie of Lillington; his extended family, Connie W. Dial (Terry) of Raeford; their children, Angel D. Baker (Derrick) of Raeford, Jonathan P. Hair (Biancia) of Raeford; a grandson, Shawn Buring (Jessica); and many step-grandchildren.
The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, 379 W. Palmer Street, Raeford, with Reverend Billy Joe Brady and Reverend Gregg Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Fanette Gore Ollendorff

Fanette Gore Ollendorff, born in Raeford on May 30, 1933, died August 7, 2014 in Naples, Florida.
She was the daughter of attorney Arthur D. Gore and Annie McFadyen Gore. She grew up in Raeford, and graduated from Hoke High School, Peace College, and Meredith College. After she graduated, she became a teacher in Fayetteville and Annandale, Virginia. She was married to Max J. Ollendorff of Naples, Florida for 48 years. He retired after 35 years of service in the U.S. government, commissioned as a foreign service officer with assignments in Germany, France, Finland, and Washington. While her husband served overseas, she engaged herself in artwork and cloisonné jewelry. She served as a U.S. hostess at the French embassy.
She was a Christian mother and grandmother devoted to her children and community. She and her husband returned to Washington and then moved to Naples, Florida in retirement. Her husband preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Katherine Ollendorff of California; two sons, Karl Ollendorff of Naples, Florida, and Max Ollendorff, his wife, Christy and twin granddaughters, Amy and Emily Ollendorff, of California; and a sister, Anne Hostetler Register of Pinehurst.

Wanda Kirk

Wanda Kirk, 76, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 in her home.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on December 17, 1937 to the late Robert and Ruth George Kirk. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons, John D'Annunzio and Ben Mosco, and a brother, Doug Kirk.
She is survived by her partner, Fred White of Raeford; sons, Tim D'Annunzio and his wife Colleen of Raeford, and Robert Mosco and his wife Carol of Raeford; daughters, Doreen Comito and her husband John of Gloucester, New Jersey, Pamela D'Annunzio and her partner James McGeehan of Wilmington, Ruth Greer and her husband Jeff of Middletown, Delaware and Rose Marie Mosco of Pennsylvania; brothers, Robert Kirk and William Kirk, both of Pennsylvania and Donald Kirk of Cape May, New Jersey; sisters, Joan Kirk and Barbara Webb, both of Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304 with the Rev. Dr. Steve Castle officiating.
Burial will follow at LaFayette Memorial Park West, 6701 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.
