Terry Wayne Caulder

Terry Wayne Caulder of Raeford died June 9, 2023 at the age of 68.

He was born in Lumberton on July 12, 1954 to John Caulder and the late Mary Caulder.

He enjoyed fishing, and spending time with his dogs.

Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Ward Caulder; one stepson, Mike Minter; and grandparents, John and Elizabeth Caulder, and Pink and Berlene Prevatte.

He is survived by his father, John Caulder, and two sisters, Lisa Eubanks (Raphael), and Debra Edwards (Eddie); stepchildren, Tammy Benton, Greg Huffman, and Chris Huffman (Robin).

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Miguel Angel Esquilin Elicier

Miguel Angel Esquilin Elicier died May 19, 2023 at the age of 67.

He was born in Canovanas, Puerto Rico on March 1, 1956 to the late Miguel Esquilin Osorio Jr. and Carmen Elicier Franco.

He was an active member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, and supported Iglesia Evangelical Impatiendo Vida Church.

He was the youngest of four siblings. He worked as a police officer in Puerto Rico. He supported athletic programs while in Puerto Rico and assisted in mentoring students in learning musical instruments. He was a member of the police league in Puerto Rico, as well as in Fayetteville. His passion was listening to music, cooking, and helping the homeless.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Calderon Casanova; children, Brenda I. Esquilin, Yamael Esquilin, and Yara A. Esquilin; siblings, Carmen L. Esquilin Rios, Milagros Figueroa, and Norma I. Sotero (Heriberto); significant nieces and nephews, Ivette, Martin, Panchito, Onet, Yaniza, Joeyto, Edward, Jerson, and Yajaira.

Paulette Faison

Paulette Faison died June 7, 2023 at the age of 57.

She was born May 20, 1966.

She is survived by her husband, Milton Jerome Faison; children: Jessica Darcel Faison, Jalecia Michelle Faison, Janessa Caitlyn Faison; mother, Myrtle Lee Andrews; siblings: Rowenia Delisa Sinclair, Michelle Elvira Moore, Timothy Shane Leggett, Freddie Alfred Leggett Jr., Kenneth Rapheal Martel Andrews, Eric Demont Bratcher; along with a host of other family and friends. 

A celebration of life was held at noon Monday, June 12 at the Cape Fear Conference B Headquarters.

Ivory Little

Ivory Little of Hoffman died peacefully Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Reid Heart Center – FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst at the age of 87. 

He was born September 3, 1935 to the late Herman and Arnor Bea Hart Little.

A few years after marriage to the late Janet Gilmore Little they relocated to Washington, D.C., where they resided for several years. After returning to North Carolina, he was employed at Proctor Silex in Southern Pines for 20+ years until his retirement. He later became part owner/operator of Jones and Little Funeral Services in Aberdeen, where he diligently worked until his health failed.

He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Hoffman and the oldest living member of Macedonia Lodge #629 of Hoffman. He was a kind, helpful and considerate person who will be loved and remembered in the hearts of many.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years; his parents; one son, Christopher Little; one daughter, Kimberly Little; and his brother, Emry Little.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories four sons: Reginald Little of Atlanta, Ivy Little (Dorothy), George Little, Stephen Little all of Hoffman; three daughters: Iris Arnese Little of Hoffman, Ivan Janeen Taylor (Robert) of Madison, Alabama, and Jevone Baldwin of Southern Pines; five grandchildren: LaShunta Little-Williams (Anthony) of Charlotte, Latasha Little (Curtis) of Missouri City, Texas, Mia Bennett of Southern Pines, Kieyona Little of Aberdeen and Jarek Taylor of Madison, Alabama; four great-grandchildren: Khairee Little, Aria Williams, Ella Ryan Taylor and Sage Smith; one aunt: Ramona Hart of Madison, North Carolina; one brother-in-law: Retired Bishop Marshall Gilmore of Concord; two sisters-in-law: Yvonne Gilmore of Concord, and Alice Livingston, of Hoffman; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A public viewing was held from 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Jones and Little Funeral Home Chapel in Aberdeen. A funeral was held at noon on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Fletcher's Chapel United Methodist Church in Hoffman, with Reverend Tommy Hart officiating. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Hoffman.

Richard Moore

Richard Moore died Monday, May 29, 2023 at FirstHealth Moore Regional in Pinehurst at the age of 34.

He was born September 19, 1988.

Visitation was held Thursday, June 8, 2023 from 1-5 p.m. at Doby Funeral Home. A graveside service was held Friday, June 9, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Lily Chapel Church Cemetery.

David Peterkin

David Peterkin died June 5, 2023 at the age of 44.

He was born October 9, 1978.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Chastity Peterkin.

He is survived by his daughter, Davion Peterkin; parents: Earnest and Shirley Perry; sisters: Kim Peterkin, Deldreana Peterkin; brother, Ernest Peterkin; along with a host of other family and friends.

A celebration to honor his life and legacy was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 11 at Leach Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Tre'Sean Snow

Tre'Sean Snow died June 6, 2023 at the age of 16.

He was born December 20, 2006. He was a student at Douglas Byrd High School.

He is survived by his father, James Grace; siblings: Ziyanna Snow, Antionette Grace, Ja-mes Grace, Neorah Snow, Daja Williams, Zekalayah Dixon, Sentonia Morrison, Deija Williams, Mautrice Williams; aunt, Linda Grace; uncles: Kenneth Grace, Corneilus Baylor, Daronlo Lide; along with a host of other famiy and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14 at the Buie Funeral Home chapel.

James Michael Ray

(RET) SGM James Michael Ray died June 9, 2023 after a long battle with ALS, at the age of 62.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 20, 1961 to the late James Pryce Ray and Ava Nell Ray.

He retired from the U.S Army after 21-plus years of service. He served in Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Shield/Storm. His first duty station was at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He then spent time abroad at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey. He was then stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington before he spent the last 15 years of his military service in 1st SFOD-D at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His military decorations include two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Awards, the Southwest Asia Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Master Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.

He taught Special Education at Hoke County High School after retiring from the military. He coached baseball and football and genuinely cared about his students and players. He was determined to coach baseball for as long as he could and coached from his wheelchair his last year. "I really enjoy being around the boys. There's a great group of young men in the school and I have them on my baseball team. Seeing their accomplishments and their trials and tribulations and helping them through those is very rewarding for me."

He loved to play sports and one of his many accomplishments was winning the state pole vault medal in his senior year of high school. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He loved spending his free time out in the woods or on the lake. He was also a devoted fan to the Kentucky Wildcats and the Atlanta Braves.

We want to thank our special friends Gary and Kathy Brigman, Shelley and Steve Wilburn, Walter and Verna Barnhill, and Bobby and Jane Britt. We would not have made this journey as smooth without you.

Mike and Deanna were blessed to be able to honor his wish to be cared for at home by his wonderful nurses Amanda Noble, Jason Harris, Mike Carpenter, and Zak Boulton. Thank you to PHH of Knightdale for assisting in his care for many years.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jewel Nevaeh Ray.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deanna Lynne Ray, of 34 years; two children, Jennifer Lynne Ray (Keshon) and James Joshua Ray of Louisville, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Madison Brooke Ray (Nicholas), Aniyah Kay Gill and James Michael Ray; one great-grandchild, Lakelyn Rae Mahoney.

Funeral services with full military honors were held at Raeford United Methodist Church on June 11 at 2 p.m. with visitation in the fellowship hall following the service.
