Rodoregus McNatt

Rodoregus McNatt, 36, of Raeford, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013.
Survivors are: mother, Willie; father, James; sisters, Lisa Kelly, Sheerice Best, Shirley, Francine and Erika; and brother, James.
The funeral was held Thurs., Oct. 24 at 2:30 p.m. in Friendship Grove FWB Church. Burial was in Hoke County Community Cemetery.

Albert Capitano

Albert Capitano, 66, of Raeford, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013.
Survived by: two aunts and many cousins.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Alan S, Yanotka

Alan S. Yanotka, 67, of Raeford, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Karen; daughters, Ginger, Tracie andCorrina; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in Cunningham & Sons Mortuary chapel in Fayetteville.

Daniel H. Hales

Daniel Howard Hales, formerly of Raeford and Harrisonburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully in sleep Monday night, October 21, 2013 at his home in Cocoa Beach, Florida. He is survived by his son Chance Hales of San Carlos, California; his mother Joyce and stepdad Doug Wilson, of Cocoa Beach; his dad, Danny Hales of Harrisonburg; his brother, Mark Hales of Oakbrook, Virginia; and two step-brothers, Matthew Hales of Holly Springs, and Conrad Wilson of Cocoa Beach. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was passionate about the things he enjoyed in life. He thoroughly loved and cherished his "touring group" family.
A graveside service will be held Friday, October 25, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Raeford Cemetery. Crumpler Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Doris Barefoot Skinner

Doris Virginia Barefoot Skinner, 80, of Kernersville, went home to be with her Lord October 10, 2013.
A native of Cumberland County, she was the daughter of the late Lizzie Lee Faircloth and James Thomas Barefoot.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years Charles Edward Skinner of the home; her son Ronnie Skinner and Crystal of High Point; her sister Edna Hiatt of Yadkinville; brothers, Ernest Barefoot and Lannie, James R. Barefoot and Betty, and Wilbert Barefoot and Linda all of Raeford; and numerous extended family members, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A graveside funeral celebrating her life was held at 1 p.m. Sunday October 13, 2013 at Raeford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC, 27103.

Mary Helen Senter

Mary Helen Gatlin Senter of Raeford died Monday, October 21, 2013.
She was born May 11, 1920 in Raeford. She was the daughter of Margaret Privette and Hallie Leon Gatlin, Sr.
She graduated from Raeford High School in 1937, attended Mars Hill College in 1938 and graduated from Meredith College in 1942.
In 1943, she married Neil Leonard Senter of Kipling. Except for a short time when they lived in Yuma, Arizona and while Sgt. Senter was serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, they made their home in Raeford.
She served her family, community and church in many capacities, including as a lifetime deacon in First Baptist Church of Raeford. The church named the offices and Educational Building "Gatlin Hall" to recognize her family's service through five generations.
Her twenty years of teaching first grade at McLauchlin School was a source of pride to her. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority.
In 1993, the Raeford Woman's Club dedicated its yearbook to her. Hern's life was one of giving—to her church, to her family and to her community.
She leaves behind to treasure her memory, her daughter and son-in-law Mary Neil and Julian King, her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Pam Senter, four grandchildren, Jason King and his wife Patricia, Justin King, Maggie Bennington and her husband Erik, and Neil Senter and his wife Heather. In addition are six great-grandchildren, Helen, Kate, Ella, Ainsley, Garrett and Julia. "Hedy", as her family knew her, was much loved by numerous nieces and nephews. They, as all who loved her, found her to be a woman of many talents, especially making others feel loved and special.
Visitation will be at her home at 115 North Highland Street, on Wednesday, October 23.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 24 at Raeford First Baptist Church, 333 N. Main Street, with the Rev. Tom Lee and Pastor Toby Neal officiating. Burial will be in Raeford Cemetery.

Richard Shaw

Richard Shaw, of Raeford, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013.
Survivors are: sister, Annie Blue; and a brother, Daniel.
The funeral will be held Tues. Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. in Mount Carmel Sanctuary Deliverance Church. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
Viewing will be today, Oct. 21 from 1 to 7p.m. in the Buie Funeral Home chapel

Blanche Nivens

Blanche Lee Nivens, 61, of Raeford, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013.
Survivors are: daughter, Priscilla Nivens; brothers, Benie Ray and Hazel; sisters, Gracie Dobbins and Minie Nivens; seven grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday, October 20 at 3 p.m. in Mt. Lebanon Church of God in Aberdeen. Burial was in church cemetery.

Hursel B. Nixon

Hursel Bryan (H.B.) Nixon, Jr. 83 of Raeford, died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Firsthealth Hospice House in Pinehurst.
He was born December 23, 1929 in Hoke County to the late Hursel Bryan (Pat) Nixon and Jenny Ola Collins Nixon. He served in the North Carolina National Guard, US Army and retired from the US Navy. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shiners, The American Legion, The Legion Riders Post 109 Benson, and the Scottish Twirlers in Laurinburg.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty Jean Nixon of Raeford; three daughters, Gail J. Hayes (Horace) of Raeford, Susan M. Manning (James Cook) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Barbie M. Williams of Fountain, Colorado; a sister, Betty Lou Braverman of St. Petersburg, Florida; five grandchildren, Bryan Manning, Heath Hayes, Garrett Hayes, Daniel Williams, and Shauna Williams; and five great-grandchildren, Garren, Greyson, Hayden, Lyssa, and Kyrie.
Visitation will be held at the home.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday October 23, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford. Inurnment will be held at the Shiloh Presbyterian Church Cemetery with the Rev. Sanders Read officiating.
