Jessie L. Dobbins

Jessie Lee Dobbins, 61, of 706 Mockingbird Hill Road, died Saturday, May 4, 2013.
Survivors are: mother, Sara; companion, Barbara Campbell; stepson, Levell Campbell; and brother, George.
The funeral will be held Fri. May 10 at 2 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial will be in McLaughlin Chapel Church cemetery.

Lewis J. Ellerbee

Lewis J. Ellerbee, 82, of 2447 Doc Brown Road, died Sunday, May 5, 2013.
Survivors are: wife, Annie; daughter, Annie; sons, Lewis, Joseph, Larry, William and James; brother, Archie; sisters, Mary Miles and Geneva Knight; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thurs. May 9 at 2 p.m. Thursday in Matthew Rouse Resource Center. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Garden.
Viewing is today, Wed. May 8 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home in Raeford.

John Nixon

John Nixon of 920 Stubby Oaks Road died Monday, May 6, 2013 in FirstHealth Moore Regional at the age of 62.
He was born in Madera, California on January 16, 1951. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas B. Nixon.
He is survived by his daughter, Johna M. Fields (Bo) of Aberdeen; his son, Mike Nixon (Brandi) of Texas City, Texas; his mother Minnie B. Nixon of Aberdeen; his brother, Barry L. Nixon of Rockingham; 10 grandchildren; and numerous cousins, aunts, and an uncle.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at Shiloh Presbyterian Church with the the Rev. Dr. Steve Hannah and the Rev. Ladd Brearley officiating. Visitation will be held at the church after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

William F. Hendrix

William Fred Hendrix of Raeford passed away at his home at the age of 87.
He was born in Hoke County on May 6, 1926 to the late James Robert Hendrix and Maggie McDonald Hendrix. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Robbie Kay Hendrix McLean.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elaine Cole Hendrix of Raeford; a daughter, Brenda H. Barr and her husband, Sanford of Cumming, Georgia; two grandchildren, Greg McLean of Syrma, Georgia, and Brad Barr and his wife, Kristi of Austin, Texas; two brothers, Jim Hendrix of Raeford, and Earl Hendrix and his wife Hazel of Raeford; two sisters-in-law, Betty Hendrix and Joann Hendrix both of Raeford; andseveral nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Biblical Gardens with the Rev. Steve Hanna officiating.

William (Bill) Nieman

William (Bill) Paul Nieman died Saturday May 4, 2013 in his home at the age of 51.
He was born in Rochester, New York on August 14, 1961 to the late Robert G. Nieman and Carol Granger Nieman. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with B. and H. Auto and Universal Pawn Shop in Raeford.
He is survived by his wife Donna Nieman of Raeford; a son Craig Wheeler of Columbus, Indiana; a daughter, Sheila Campbell and her husband Jacob of Madison, Indiana; brothers Robert Nieman and his wife Linda of Lavonia, New York; Richard Nieman and his wife Marcy of Perry, New York; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. on Thursday May 9, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday May 9, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel.

Kevin Higgins

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Kevin Higgins, 40, of Fort Irwin, California, formerly of Raeford, died Sunday, April 14, 2013.
He served in the U.S. Army for 18 years including for four tours in Iraq, one in Afghanistan and one in Kosovo. He was raised in Fresno, California.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Higgins; his father, Bobby Joe Higgins Sr., ; his grandmother; and great-grandmother. He is survived by his mother, Alice Higgins; daughters, Kayla, Kassandra and Ayesha; a brother, Bobby; and sisters, Arlinda and Shirelle.
A graveside service with full military honors was held Monday, April 29 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Helen Rawles

Helen Rawles, 64, of 113 Bayou Court, died Monday, April 29, 2013.
Survivors are: daughters, Terry West, Sabina Villarreal, Tabitha Hitson and Candace Smith; sons, Lamar and Tommie; 12 siblings; 22 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sat. May 4 at 2 p.m. in Tabernacle of Miracles in Hope Mills.

Benjamin McPhatter

Benjamin McPhatter, 63, of 1188 Rockfish Road, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
Survivors are: wife, Linda; daughter, Cynthia Bowden; sons, Ronelle and Terrill Bowden; siblings, Donnie Rogers, Jobelinda Pridgen, Toby Richardson, Warren Blue, Nathaniel McKoy, Hammond, Randy and Phearchie; seven grandchildren.
The memorial service was held Sun. May 5 at 3 p.m. in Leach Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Sharon D. Cromartie-Major

Sharon Diann Cromartie-Major, 56, of 662 Glenn Road, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013.
Survivors are: husband, James; parents, Leo and Lynell; brothers, Ronald and Warren; and sisters, Cynthia and Jacky.
The funeral will be held Mon. May 6 at 1 p.m. in Sandy Grove AME Zion Church. Burial will be in church cemetery.

Owilla J. Dobbins, 64, of Raeford, died Wednesday, May 2, 2013.
Survivors are: daughters, Sharon Hill and Owilla McLean; sisters, Betty McLean and Lola Kemp; brothers, Bobby Jones, Donnell McNeill and Larry Neill; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tues. May 7 at 4 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial will be in St. Mary's Church cemetery in Red Springs.
