Mary Ann Bowen

Mary Ann Bowen of Fayetteville died Friday, May 8, 2015at the age of 77.

 She was born August 1, 1937 in Atlanta to the late Charles and Annabelle Ziegler Moss.

She attended Galatia Presbyterian Church and Mount CalvaryBaptist Church. Within the churches she was involved in the choir, circle and Children's Fellowship.

She is survived by her husband David Bowen, Sr. of Fayetteville; 5 sons, Art Diehl and his wife Jean of Fayetteville, Charlie Diehl and his wife Jennifer of Raleigh, Harry Diehl and his wife Darlene of Charlotte, Dave Bowen, Jr. of Matthews, Chris Bowen of Lake City, Florida; and 1 grandson Sam Diehl.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford, and after the service in the Galatia Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

The funeral  will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Galatia Presbyterian Church, officiated by Pastor Neil Smith, Ruling Elder Herman Autry, and Reverend Dwight Jackson.

Interment will be in Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Faizah Alvarez

Faizah Alvarez, 27, of 123 Tuxford Court, died Saturday, May 2, 2015.
Survivors are: husband, Ibar; children, Maliyah and Eric; parents, Joyce Thompson and Davis James; and brother, Spencer Thompson.
The funeral will held Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m. in First Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla. Burial will be in Beaches Memorial Park, Jacksonville.

Donald L. Green

Retired CW3 Donald L. Green, 73, of Raeford, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, in his residence.
He was born in Charlotte, Nov.17, 1941, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lee and Dorothy Green.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Master Sgt. George Levasseur.
Don had the privilege of serving alongside of his stepfather as a Special Forces Green Beret in the U.S. Army, before becoming a chief warrant officer and a flight instructor at Hunter AAF, Fort Rucker, Ala. He served honorably from Aug. 24, 1959 to February 28, 1981. During this time he earned a Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Parachutist Badge and an Army Aviator Badge.
Survivors are: his son, Anthony Green and wife, Michele; granddaughter, Madison Green; grandsons, Walker Green and Mason Green, all of Pendleton, S.C.; sister, Linda Carlisle and husband Bryan of Matthews; nieces, Jena Carlisle of Indian Trail, Niki Polen and husband Larry of Monroe, and their children Matelyn and Reagan; and dedicated close friends, Jackie and Spencer Gay of Fayetteville.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 8 at noon in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake officiated by Chaplain Roy
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Jimmy Dean Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 70600, Fort Bragg, NC 28307.

Alton E. "Buddy" McGirt

Alton Edward (Buddy) McGirt of Raeford, died Monday, May 4, 2015 at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn.

He was born in Bladenboro on November 4, 1930, to the late Alton Edison McGirt and Sallie Rachael Smith McGirt. He was preceded in death by his son, Alton Eugene McGirt. He was a member of Dundarrach Presbyterian Church. He served in the North Carolina National Guard. He was a loving and caring father who will truly be missed.

He is survived by his wife Hildegard H. McGirt of Raeford; two daughters, Sally Marie Roberts (Warren) of Maumelle Arkansas and Lydia Ann Stafford (Billy) of Gallatin, Tennessee; a son,  Colin Clay McGirt of North Carolina; a sister, Mary Donna Turner (Johnny) of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015  at the Raeford Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Ray Harris officiating and  directed  by Crumpler Funeral Home. The family will receive friend after the service at the Cemetery.

Margaret Terry Shaw

Margaret Terry Shaw, 93, of Kemper, Texas, formerly of Raeford, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 2, 2015 at her home. 

She was born on July 9, 1921 to Silas Napier and Carrie Lillian McColl in McColl, South Carolina. In 1945, she married Homer L. Terry Sr. becoming a military spouse. During her time in Copperas Cove, she opened Terry's Furniture and later Terry's Fashions. Upon his retirement, they moved back to their home in Raeford. Homer passed away in 1982. She married John C. Shaw in 1985. When he passed away in 2003, she moved to Kempner to live near her son, Robert N. Terry, and his wife, Crissy (with great-grandsons, Chase and Colton) and her granddaughter, Amy Graziano, and her husband, Keith (with great-granddaughter, Kaitlin). She is also survived by son, Homer Lee Terry Jr., and his wife, Deb, of Raeford, and grandson, Jordan Terry. She was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Copperas Cove, Texas. Her strong Christian witness will long be remembered.

Visitation will be May 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. A graveside service will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery in Rockfish at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 14,2015 directed by Crumpler Funeral Home.

Abdullah E. Shareef

Abdullah El-Amin Shareef, 81, of 729 Green St., died Saturday, May 2, 2015.
Survivors are: son, Abdullah II; daughters, Elizabeth and Rayeeyah; and brother, Andrew McNair.
The funeral will be held Monday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. in Colvin Funeral Home & Crematory chapel in Fayetteville. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.
