Horace T. Blake

Horace Thomas Blake died Thursday, March 28, 2013 in Kingswood Nursing Home at the age of 86.
He was born in Robeson County on November 8, 1926 to the late Adam Blake and Maris Lamb Blake. He was a member of the Celebration of Praise Church of God, and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evie Bowman Blake of Raeford; his daughters, Barbara J. Blake of Newport News, Virginia, and Sharon B. Branch and her husband Randy of Raeford; his son, Dale B. Blake and his wife Tammi of Raeford; one brother, Adam Blake and his wife Melba of Raeford; four grandchildren, Kevin Jackson, Gerri Jackson, David Shane Herring, and Natasha Beard and her husband Shelton; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 31, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford, NC.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Celebration of Praise Church of God, 4944 Fayetteville Road, Raeford with Pastor Jerry Edge officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Willie J. Headen

Willie James Headen, 69, of Raeford, died Friday, March 22, 2013.
Survivor are: wife, Henriette; children, Audrey, Sermanda, Brenda, Blondell, Shelby, Dwight, Willie, Dennis, Darel, Elijah and Steve; siblings, Lillie, Shirley A., Shirley J., Jeannmae, Wilbert and Laweren; and 36 grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Fri. Mar. 29 at 2 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial will be in McLauchlin Chapel Church cemetery.

James R. Bridges

James Robert Bridges, 76, of Raeford, died Saturday, March 23, 2013.
Survivors are: brothers, Willie, John, Selester and Ransome; and sister, Hattie.
A memorial service will be at a later date.
Visitation will be today, Mar. 29 from 11 a.m. to noon at Wiseman Mortuary in Fayetteville and other times at 198 Fading Trail Lane.

Brenda B. Stevens

Brenda Ann Barrett Stevens died Wednesday March 27, 2013 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
She was born in Scotland County on January 26, 1948 to the late Lewis and Letha Barrett. She was employed at Autumn Care of Raeford. She was preceded in death by her husband William Stevens Sr.
Survivors are her daughter Lula S. Garner and her husband Eddie of Raeford; her son William (Will) Stevens, Jr. of Raeford; and five grandchildren, Ashley Garner, Edward Garner, Jr. Aubrey Stevens, Crystal Garner, and Jerri Garner.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday on March 30, 2013 at Celebration of Praise Church of God, Raeford.

Dora Ross

Dora Magaline Soles Ross, 81, of Concord, departed March 18, 2013 at CMC North East Medical Center. She was born January 29, 1932 in Horry County, South Carolina, daughter of the late James Belton Soles and Hannah Frances Carpenter of Tabor City. She resided in Hoke County for 33 years and retired from Unilever Raeford. She lived the last four years with her daughters and son in Concord.
She is survived by her children, Margaret Quan, Jackie Callihan, and J.H. Ross, all of Concord, Dora Hulon of Fayetteville, and Stephen Ross of Raeford; sisters, Annie Cain, and Katie Cain, both of Fayetteville; a brother-in-law, John Hamm of Florida; 8 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Herbert Bullock

Elder Herbert Bullock, 91, of Southern Pines, formerly of Raeford, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Kingswood Nursing Center, Aberdeen.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors are his brother, Elder Joseph Bullock, Sr., and other relatives.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at Wilson and Associates Funeral Service Chapel, Richmond, Virginia
Burial was in Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia, Virginia.

Jenkins "Buddy" Locklear

Jenkins "Buddy" Locklear of 237 Carl Street, Maxton, died Friday, March 22, 2013 in Morrison Manor at the age of 73.
He was born in Robeson County on June 10, 1939 to the late Jackson and Lide Locklear. He was preceded in death by his son Dusty Locklear and his sister, Roberta Jones.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Gladys Locklear of St. Pauls; his son, Alvin Locklear of Pembroke; his daughters, Robin Locklear of Lumberton, Cecilia Reed and her husband Kenneth of St. Pauls, and Bridget Locklear of Pembroke; his brothers, Jay Locklear and his wife Edna of Maxton, Parnell Locklear and his wife Wanda of Raeford, and Jobe Locklear and his wife Gail of Maxton; sisters, Blossie "Candy" Locklear and her husband Les of Rockingham, Hazel Locklear of Maxton, Carrie Lee Locklear of Maxton, and Anna Chavis and her husband Marvin of Red Springs; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at Crumpler Serenity Funeral Home, 220 E. 4th Ave, Red Springs.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at the Crumpler Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Chavis and Locklear Family Cemetery in Red Springs.

Lucille Pendergrass

Lucille Elizabeth Nixon Pendergrass, age 85, of 2597 Pendergrass Road, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 in her home.
She was born in Hoke County on March 1, 1928 to the late Hershel Bryan and Jenny Ola Nixon. She was a life-long member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church, and worked as a LPN since 1960 at Moore Regional Hospital, Dr. E.C. Womble's office in Wagram and private duty. She was a very committed Hospice Volunteer and received the 1995 Hospice of Hoke County volunteer of the year Indirect Services Award and 1991 Hospice of Hoke County volunteer of the year Direct Services Award. Her hobbies were crocheting and canning. She enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with family.
She was preceeded in death by her husband of 67 years, Charlie Pendergrass.
Survivors are three daughter, Janice P. Creekmore and her husband Grafton of Raeford, Dianne P. McCallum and her husband Edward of Statesboro, Georgia, and Wanda P. Nobles and her husband Garland of Wagram; a brother, H. B. Nixon and his wife Betty, of Raeford; a sister, Betty Braverman of St. Petersburg, Florida; seven grandchildren, Kim Kitchens and her husband David, Andy Bullock and his wife Chrissie, Kristyn Beck and her husband Heath, Dana Pepe and her husband Frank, Trad Walters and his wife Nonie, Waylon Nobles and Natalie Nobles; and seven great-grandchildren, Chasity Bullock, Mellie Kitchens, Lauryn Beck, Samuel Beck, Nadia Walters, Zara Walters and Frank Pepe Jr.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Shiloh Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Hannah officiating.
Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.
