Howard Earl Harris, 65, of Raeford, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012.
Survivors are: wife, Mary; sons, Marvin, Christopher and Timothy; daughter, Angela; mother, Pauline; sister, Gracie Dudley; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Fri. Aug. 31 at 2 p.m. in Freedom Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial will be in church cemetery. Viewing from 2-7 tonight at Buie Funeral Home.

Herman L. Patterson
Herman L. Patterson, 96, of Raeford, formerly of Eden, peacefully passed away at his home on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
He was born July 28, 1916 in Leaksville, son of the late Baylor Cephus and Bertha Lee Patterson. He resided in Leaksville prior to joining the Stuckey's Company and moving to Clovis, New Mexico in 1962. Following retirement in 1982, he moved to Raeford. He later became pastor of the Spray Primitive Baptist Church in Eden and remained in that positoin until 2003.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Bessie Joyce Patterson; a son, Lindsay Patterson and wife, Judy of Borger, Texas; a daughter, Linda McLeod and husband, Benny of Raeford; a son, Joseph Patterson and wife, Gwynn of Sierra Vista, Arizona; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Bobby, Russell and Nelson; and two sisters, Daisy Bousman and Pauline Price.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, at Spray Primitive Baptist Church, 207 Dameron Street in Eden. Burial will follow in Overlook Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (noon to 1 p.m.) at Spray Primitive Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Sarah Strother
Sarah Emma Lowder Strother of Ashley Heights passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012. She was born June 8, 1925 to Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Lowder.
She was an avid gardener, enjoyed quilting and crossword puzzles, spending time with dear friends and family, and most of all, being a member of Ashley Heights Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dewey Strother; son James Robert "Bobby" Strother; and a daughter Sheila Louise Bowling.
She is survived by two sons, Garry Strother and his wife, Donna of Whispering Pines and Carl Strother of Ashley Heights; a daughter Linda Maiolini and her husband, John of Cincinnati, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Norma, of Ashley Heights; 12 grandchildren, Robert, Jeffrey, Tyler, Diana, Kristen, William, Matt, Cianna, Beth, Alison, Sheri, and Ronald; and 10 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 29 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 30 at Ashley Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Kevin Huff officiating. Burial will follow at Ashley Heights Cemetery.

John E. "Jack" Towner III, of Wildwood Florida, formerly of Raeford, died Wednesday, August 22, 2012 in Lessburg, Florida.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, Sept. 7 at 8 a.m. in Florida.

Harris Daniel Williams of 286 Falling Tree Road died Sunday, August 26, 2012 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 85.
He was born in Duplin County on October 4, 1926 to the late Robert James Williams and Lucy Rivenbark.
Survivors are a son, Michael C. Williams of Fayetteville; a brother, William B. Williams of Sun City West, Arizona; a sister, Lila Creasey of Richmond, Virginia; and two grandchildren, Brittany Williams and Shannon Williams.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford, NC 28376.
