Carra Lindsay

Carra Lillie Lindsay of Raeford died Friday, September 26, 2014 at FirstHealth Hoke Campus in Raeford at the age of 93.
She was born in Bladen County on October 1, 1920 to the late Eddie Gaston Brisson and Amanda Reta Monroe Brisson. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Fairley Lindsay, her daughter, Barbara Ann Lindsay, and her grandson, Richard Lindsay. She was a lifetime member of Galatia Presbyterian Church. She spent her life loving her family as a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She retired from the Cumberland County School System.
She is survived by two sons, Donald C. Lindsay and his wife, Connie of Raeford, and Alex Lindsay and his wife, Heidi of Raeford; her daughter, Susan Lindsay Slocum of Greensboro; 8eight grandchildren, Tommy, Michael, Barbara, Matthew, Jennifer, Julie, Pam, and Amanda; 13 great-grandchildren, Davey, Jessica, Amy, Jared, Sarah, Natalie, Colin, Caitlin, Lindsay, James, Brooke, Sawyer, and Charley; and one great-great-granddaughter, Payton.
The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. Sunday, September 28, 2014 in the church parlor of Galatia Presbyterian Church, 8800 Galatia Church Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. at Galatia Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Shuford White officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Kay C. Barnhill

Kay Carson Barnhill of Wilmington, formerly of Raeford, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at New Hanover Hospital at the age of 76.
She is survived by her son James A. Cashwell of Grays Creek; two daughters, Debbie C. Jackson of Wilmington and Michelle R. Kelley of St. Pauls; two grandchildren Dennis L. Jackson, III, (Stephanie) and Megan K. Jackson, all of Wilmington; two great-grandchildren, Hailey and Alyssa Jackson, both of Wilmington; and a brother, James Q. Carson (Shirley) of Raeford.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014.

Lendward Simpson

Lendward Simpson, 89, of 209 N. Bethel Road, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2014.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Jacqeline; son, Lendward Jr.; daughter, Helena Rowell; five grandchildren; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. in Word of Life Temple. Burial will be in McLauchlin Chapel Church cemetery.
 Visitation will Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 1 to 7 p.m.  at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

 



Neill B. Sinclair Jr.

Neill Blue Sinclair, Jr. died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014—one day before his 84th birthday— at The Oaks of Mayview in Raleigh.

 Mr. Sinclair was born in Fayetteville on Sept. 24, 1930, to Neill Blue Sinclair and Jessie Currie McPhaul Sinclair. Raised in Raeford, North Carolina, he graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After serving in the U.S. Army, he embarked on a long career with the North Carolina Milk Commission.
In 1959, he married the former Mary Alice Melvin in Raleigh, where they made their home and raised their family. She predeceased him in 2000.
 Mr. Sinclair and his wife, Mary, were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where Mr. Sinclair served as a deacon, elder and long-standing treasurer.
 He is survived by two daughters: Karen and her husband, Steve Davis, and their son, Neill Blue; and Maryneil and her husband, Jim Catlin, all of Raleigh. He is also survived by his brothers: James Archibald Sinclair and John Thomas Sinclair; a sister, Jane Sinclair Grimm; and many loving nieces and nephews.
 A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 3120 New Hope Road. The family will receive friends at the church at 1 p.m., prior to the service.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27 at the Raeford Cemetery in Raeford.

James E. McRae

James Edward McRae, 94, of Mount Holly, NJ, formerly of Raeford, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014
Survivors are: daughters, Eunice Teen Diggs of Fayetteville and Juanita McRae of the home; sons, Jimmy McRae of the home and Kenneth Curtis of London, England; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday, September 26 at noon in Perinchief Chapel in Mount Holly, NJ.

Bismark P. Ellis

Bismark Pearson Ellis of Baltimore, Maryland, formerly of Hoke County, died September 17, 2014 at the age of 67.
He was born in Hoke County on June 17, 1947. He was a self-employed brick mason. He also served in the US Army.
He is preceded in death by his parents Evans Hasty and Mable Jones Hasty and John William Ellis and Julia Graham Ellisl; and a brother Richard Ellis.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn M. Harris; four brothers Frank Ellis (Margret),Hervie Evans Hasty(Andrea),Randy Hasty (Vicki), and Jerome Hasty; and nine sisters, Romell Banks (Leroy), Mae Ann Stephens, Vickie McRae (Ervin),Carolyn Hasty, Balbina Cobb, Sandra McQueen Vernell Moore, Jernell Love (Silas),and Geraldine Love(Warren).
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home 220 E.4th Ave. Red Springs.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, September, 25, 2014 at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Darrell Ferguson.

Irene H. Gathers

Irene H. Gathers, 63, of 504 East St., died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014.
Survivors are: children, Rodney McNeill, Jeffrey, Danny Harris Jr., Justin, Brittney Gates and Lamont; sister, Elizabeth Monroe; brothers, Linwood McNeill and Gilbert Johnson; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday, Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. Monday in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial will be in Center Grove Church cemetery in Red Springs.
