Barbara J McKinnon

Barbara J. McKinnon, 74, of 409 South Magnolia St., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014.
Survivors are: daughters, Denise McLeod, Barbara Tyson, Jackie McLean and Deborah Blue; and sons, Gerald and Darryl.
The funeral will be held Friday. Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. Friday in Freedom Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens. 
Viewing will be held Thursday, Nov. 20 from  4 to 7 p.m. at Purcell Funeral Home in Laurinburg.

 



Shirley L McNatt

Shirley L. McNatt, 45, of 106 Dakota Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014.
Survivors are: daughters, Iris and Jaquana; mother, Willie; father, James; sisters, Lisa Kelly , Francene Best, Erica and Sheerice; brother, James; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thursday. Nov. 20 at 2 p.m. Thursday in McLaughlin Chapel AME Zion Church. Burial will be in Hoke County Community Cemetery. 
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 1 to 7p.m. at Doby Funeral Home in Raeford.

Dewey L. Suggs

Dewey Lee Suggs, 73, of Raeford, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014.
He was a Navy veteran.
Survivors are: sons, Donald and Michael; sisters, Ruth Owen, Margaret Melvin, Marilyn Heath, Joan Hulan, Carol Atkins; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19 at  2 p.m. in Butler Funeral Home chapel in Stedman. Burial will be in White Oak Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation, 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Shelby Strong

Shelby Strong, 73, of Raeford, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1941, to the late Mr. Preston Evers and Mrs. Thelma Wilkins Evers.
Mrs. Strong was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Mae Owens and husband Odell Owens, and brother, Gary Evers.
Survivors are:  her husband, Michael Strong of Raeford; sister-in-law, Pauline Evers of Lumberton; uncle, Henry Wilkins and wife Dixie of Wilmington; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and two good friends, Sarah Beth Lytch of Fayetteville and Mary Morrow of Raeford.
During her 30 year career in education, she taught in many positions from elementary to the college level. After retirement, she volunteered her time with Southeastern North Carolina Radio Reading Service and with hospice care. She held a special place in her heart for Contact of Fayetteville and Fayetteville Urban Ministries.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2014. A memorial service conducted by Minister Sonny Kelly will follow at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Sullivan's Highland Funeral Service & Crematory. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014, in New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton.

Carol L. McCoy

Carol Locklear McCoy, 49, of 516 6th Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2014.
Survivors are: sons, Jamel Gates, Lamarve and Darrell; sisters, Janie Dupree, Janice Daniels and Hattie Riggins; brothers, Carl, Jamie and Jimmy; and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral was held Saturday. Nov. 15 at  2 p.m. Saturday in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial was in McLaughlin Chapel Church cemetery.

Phoebe Jordan

Phoebe Elizabeth Jackson Jordan of 824 Backwoods Lake Road, entered Heaven Saturday, November 15, 2014 at her residence at the age of 94.
She was born in Sampson County on July 16, 1920, to the late Wiley B. and Virginia Kyle Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband, a WWII Veteran, Garth McCoy Jordan, and her granddaughter Elizabeth Carol Bunce Reynolds.
She was a member of Camp Ground United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Golden Elite within the Church. She was the past president of the American Business Women's Association (Scotch Plaid Chapter) and their Woman of the Year. She was also a member of the Traveling Lamplighters. At age 74 she became a licensed foster parent and cared for and loved 43 foster children. Among her hobbies were ballroom dancing, quilting, baking pound cakes for others and traveling with her daughter and son-in-law. Hergreatest talent was the ability to love others. She shared this gift with everyone. Her presence is gone, but her love remains.
She is survived by her daughter Carol Bunce (Jimmy) of Raeford; niece/surrogate daughter, Lynn Jane Elmwood of Waldorf Maryland; three grandchildren, James Franklin Bunce (Sherry K) Ricky Wayne Bunce, and Donald Andrew Bunce (Stephanie); five great-grandchildren, Amber Elise Davis(Brian), Kristine Anne Reynolds, Victoria Nicole Reynolds, Wade Everly Bunce, Carolyn Ashley Bunce; and a step-great-grandchild Jacob Mitchell Hasinger.
Visitation will be 1 until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2104, prior to the service at Camp Ground UMC Church, 4625 Camp Ground Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28314.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m.
Interment will be at LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street, Fayetteville.
