Alan P. Scholz

Alan "Al" Paul Scholz passed away at his home in Raeford October 11, 2013 at the age of 78.
He was born in Madison, Wisconsin September 5, 1935. He moved his family to Anchorage, Alaska. After more than 20 years in Alaska they moved to North Carolina, where his wife still resides.
He was known for his love of gardening, woodworking, helping anyone in need, and never passing an opportunity at a good joke, or even a bad one to make sure to get a smile.
He was instrumental in starting the Russian Jack Community Patrol, and working closely with the Anchorage Police Department.
His passion for gardening and working with his hands, along with making people smile, came together in the last years of his life when he was employed as a maintenance engineer at the Open Arms Retirement Center in Raeford.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Dorothy Scholz, and two grandchildren, Misty Dawn Scholz and Joshua Paul Richards.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Scholz, to whom he was married nearly 60 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his seven children, Steven, Douglas (Frankie), Scott, Doreen (Frank), Lori, Lana (Shawn), Elizabeth (Andy), 29 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

De'Andre Ricketts

De'Andre Ricketts, 16, of 70 West Southern Ave., Raeford, died Sunday, October 13, 2013.
Survivors are: mother, Sharon Murchison; father, Keith Ricketts, brothers, Terrance Murchison, Keith Ricketts Jr. and Kwand Wilson; sister, Tara Wilson; grandmothers, Mamie McLean, and Hallire Frazier.
The funeral will be held Thursday, October 17 at 2 p.m. in Matthew Rouse Center. Burial will be at Freedom Chapel Church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 16 from 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Doby Funeral Home.

Apryle Rossi

Apryle Rossi, age 55, of Seagrove and formerly of Hoke County, died Saturday (October 12, 2013) at her home.
She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Christopher Rossi; a daughter Mary Michal McNeil and husband Patrick stationed in Tokyo, Japan; brothers Mark Reese and wife Laurie of California, Burt Reese and wife Sylvia of Rockfish; sisters Hope Ribar and husband Frank of Rockfish, and Laural Reese of Rockfish; mother and stepfather Martha and Danny Brock of Sneads Ferry; and grandchildren Andrew and Matthew.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Kennedy Funeral Home and following the service on Thursday.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Rockfish. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Kennedy Funeral Home in Robbins is assisting the Rossi family.

Herbert L. Thaggard

Herbert LeRoy(Sonny) Thaggard Jr., 81 of Raeford, died Octoober 10, 2013 at Moore Regional Hospital.
He graduated from Fayetteville High School and entered the US Navy. He served on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany until his honorable discharge. He served the US Postal Service for 32 years retiring as the SPO from the Raeford Post Office in 1987. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Broadhurst Thaggard; father, Herbert Leroy Thaggard, Sr.; son, Paul Jeffery Thaggard; sister Joyce Staton; brother, Gary McNeill Thaggard; and a grandson, Joshua Caleb Chavis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Margaret(Maggie) Thaggard; son, Tracy B. Thaggard and his wife Toni of Raeford; daughers, Deborah Canupp and her husband Ed of Apex, Kimberly Chavis and her husband Larry of Knightdale, Jeanie Abner and her husband Danny of Stedman; sister, Betty Korpella of Maryville, Tennessess; three step-children, Jeanne Autry and her husband Ronnie of Dunn, Bill Cifers and is wife Karen of Elizabethton, Tennessee, and Patti Collins and her husband Arthur of Falcon; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-granchildren; sister-in-law, Sarah Lynn Thaggard and Joy T. Smith, the mother of his five children and his little Maltese companion, Le'Roi.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 19 at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church in Raeford with the Rev. Toby Neal officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 1: 45 p.m. A private burial will follow.
