Pearlie J. Burkes

Pearlie Jane Burkes, 73, of Raeford, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014.
Survivors are: children, Valeria Livingston, Jeanette, Towanna, Jacqueline and Benjamin; and siblings, Lessie, Mattie, Lena Mae, Margaret and Clyde.
The funeral will be held Saturday, January 11 at 1 p.m. in Friendship Grove FWB Churchin Red Springs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be today, January 10 from 1 to 7p.m. in Doby Funeral Home in Raeford.

Tracy L. Saunders

Tracy Lyn Saunders, 39, of Raeford, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.
Survivors are: son, Talin Hunt; daughters, Alicia and Kayla Guerra; parents, Jeff and Wanda Coleman; father, Rudy Pah; brothers, Jason Pah and Connor Coleman; grandfather, Joseph; and grandparents, Renate and Fred Kropp.
The funeral will be held Saturday, January 11 at 2 p.m. in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Gregory Blackshear

Gregory Blackshear, 50, of Raeford, died Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.
Survivors are: mother and stepfather, Rovenia and Eddie McNair; brothers, Anthony and Fernandez; and sisters, Lynn Blackshear-Ray, Jaris McNair-Edens, and Cynthia Moore.
The memorial service will be held Thursday, January 9 at 2 p.m. in Word of Life Temple.
Visitation will be held today, January 8 from1 to 6 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Shirley J. McRae

Mother Shirley J. McRae, 77, formerly of 3910 Turnpike Road, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.
Survivors are: son, Robert Jr.; sisters, Geneva Johnson, Margaret Edwards, Bernice McLaughlin.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 8 at 11 a.m. in New Greater Solid Rock Holiness Church. Burial will be church cemetery.
Viewing will be today, January 7 from 11 a.m to 8 p.m and the visitation from 6 to 8 in Buie Funeral Home chapel, Raeford.

Nathaniel McMillan Jr.

Nathaniel McMillan Jr., 64, of 807 Dogwood Lane, died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014.
Survivors are: children, Christine Gumbs, Jackie Kinslow, Teresa Evans, Ernestine, Michele, Jacob, 10 siblings; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren
The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 8 at 1 p.m. in Rock Springs AME Zion Church. Burial will be in Malloy Grove Church cemetery in St. Pauls.
Visitation will be today, January 7 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Cunningham & Sons Mortuary in Fayetteville.

Peggy M. Seago

Peggy Musselwhite Seago of 2744 Hoffman Road, Jackson Springs, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at her home at the age of 78.
She was born in Robeson County on September 27, 1935 to the late Neal Archie Musselwhite and Gerthie Ann Patterson Musselwhite. She is preceded in death by her husband David Lewis Seago. She was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet S. Thomas of Jackson Springs; two grandchildren, Jessica Thomas and Christopher W. Thompson,Sr.; three great-grandchildren Christopher W. Thompson Jr., Caleb D. Thomas and Destiny Steed; two brothers, Ronald T. Musselwhite and his wife Annette of Lumberton, and Neal Edwind Musselwhite and his wife Brenda of Lumberton; four nieces, Debbie Zimmerman, Karen Laton, Samantha Mabe and Abigail Zimmerman; and three nephews, Joseph Seago, Luke and Joseph Zimmerman.
Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Taylor Memoria Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. James Cagle officiating.

Jon G. Almond

Jon G. Almond, 78 of Aberdeen passed away on January 3, 2014 at his home.
He was born on December 14, 1935 in Hoke County to the late Marshall Crowell and Alice Almond.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Myrna Almond Stell of Greensboro.
He is survived by his loving wife, Emma Jean Almond; one son, Michael Alfred Almond (Martha) of Pittsboro; two daughters, Theresa Almond Sanderson (Johnny) of Southern Pines and Karen Almond-Pile (David) of Cortez, Florida; a brother, Winfred Almond of Raleigh; one sister, Judy Almond Hodgin (Bill) of Roxboro; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Amanda, Jamie, Jessica "Booger", Nicholas, and Abigail; and one great-grandchild, Corbin.
The funeral was held Monday at 11 a.m. at Ashley Heights Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Donella E. Shankle

Donella Elizabeth Shankle, 66, of Columbia, formerly of Raeford died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Lexington Medical Center.
She was born April 7, 1947 in Hoke County to the late James Eli Shankle, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Currie Shankle and attended Hoke County schools. She is also preceded in death by her brother, James Eli Shankle, Jr.
Survivors are: daughters, Amy Forloines and fiancé David Connor of Greenville, SC and Heather Green and husband Josh of Columbia, SC; one brother William (Bill) Shankle of Raleigh, NC; one sister Anne Shankle Wright and husband Fletcher of Charlotte, NC; and two grandchildren, Isaac and Vivian Green of Columbia, SC.
A beach memorial is planned for a later date and her remains will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean, per her wishes.
