Ronnie R. Davis

Ronnie Ray Davis died surrounded by his family on Friday, July 10, 2020 at the age of 39.
He was born in Cumberland County on June 28, 1981. He was preceded in death by his father Ronnie C. Davis, his niece Anna C. Byrne and a nephew Christopher Andrew Byrne. He was a member of Ephesus Baptist Church.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley H. Davis of Lumber Bridge; three sisters, Carol D. Smith and her husband Earl of Raeford, Kimberly D. Byrne and her husband Chris of Lumber Bridge, and Cindy D. Kilpatrick and her husband Thomas of Raeford; five nieces, Rachel Smith, Emily Smith, Ashlyn Byrne, Meredith Byrne, and Madelyn Kilpatrick; two nephews Austin Oldham and Connor Oldham; a special cousin of the home Jenny Thompson; Aunt Wanda Thompson of the home and Uncle Henry Harris of Lumber Bridge.
Visitation will be Monday, July 13, 2020 from 2-3 p.m. at Ephesus Baptist Church.  
The funeral will follow at 3 at the church with Earl Smith and Pastor Wayne Sanderson
Officiating.
Burial will be in the Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wilmer "Mackey" McDonald III

Wilmer "Mackey" Allen McDonald III of Raeford died Wednesday, July 8, 2020 in his home at the age of 51.
He was born in Cumberland County on August 6, 1968 to Wilmer Allen McDonald Jr. and Betty Faulkner McDonald. He was exceptionally talented during his lifetime. During his middle school career, he and his friends began a band in which he played the guitar. Before graduating from Hoke County Schools in 1982, he owned and operated a Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts Class above what used to be Howell Drug. After high school he attended and graduated Cum Lade with a bachelor's degree in Broadcasting from UNC Pembroke. He co-owned and operated TV 33 in Myrtle Beach. During his ownership of the television station he would often travel to Costa Rica where he promoted an advertising station locally. He also owned the safezone.com where he advertised and sold self-defense items. He was preceded in death by his uncle, James Dodrill and his cousin, Chris Dodrill.
He is survived by his son, Maddox McDonald of Jacksonville; his parents, Wilmer Allen McDonald Jr. and Betty Lee McDonald of Raeford; his sister, Heidi McDonald of Southern Pines; his niece, Mallory McDonald of Southern Pines; and his cousin, Travis Dodrill of Spindale.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Ann Scott

Ann Scott, age 75, of Siler City, died Friday, June 26, 2020 at her home.
She was born June 27, 1944 in Hoke County to Herbert and Iola Carlisle Thames. She was a school administrator for Auldern Academy in Bear Creek.
She is survived by one daughter, Tracey S. Wilkie and husband Tim of Goldston; and one grandson, Charles Alexander "Alex" Moody. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles S. Scott.

Joy S. Smith

Joy Strickland Smith died Thursday, June 18, 2020 in Hendersonville. She spent most of her adult life living in Moore County.
She graduated from Hoke County High School and Sandhills Community College Nursing Program. She worked as a Registered Nurse with Moore Regional/FirstHealth in various departments for more than 30 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Melissa Wright of Moore County; grandsons Josh Wright  and Jacob Scott, both of Moore County; sister, Sharon Molina and husband Jerry of Hendersonville; brother, Tim Strickland and wife Eileen of Raeford; and sister, Susan Strickland of Raeford.  She also leaves behind her two furry companions, Ayla and Angus.
Family visitation will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 4-5 p.m. with a memorial service following at 5 at Calvary Memorial Church, Bennett Street, Southern Pines.
