Brian K. Pugsley Sr.

Brian Keith Pugsley Sr. of Raeford died Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home.
He is survived by two sons Brian Keith Pugsley Jr. and his wife Lauren of Dunn and Andrew Michael Pugsley of Pinehurst; two grandchildren, Madelyn Pugsley and McKinley Pugsley, both of Dunn; three sisters, Barbara Riggs of Vass, Allene Eldridge and her husband Gary of Aberdeen, and Georgieanna Hart of Ft. Mill, South Carolina; and three brothers, William Pugsley of Sanford, James Pugsley of Vass, and Thomas Pugsley and his wife Linda of Aberdeen.  
A private memorial service will be held later.

Mazellel G. Connell

Mazelle Goodwin Connell of Cornelius, formerly of Raeford, died Thursday, March 11, 2021 at Novant Health Huntersville at age 78.
She was born in Scotland County on June 5, 1942 to the late Johnnie "Red" Goodwin and Ruth Kersey Goodwin. 

She graduated from Laurel Hill High School in the class of 1960 where she played basketball, was a member of the Beta Club, a marshal for the graduating class and a lifeguard. She worked as a license insurance agent and real estate broker for Connell Insurance Agency in Raeford for over 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Raeford where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a great supporter of her daughters' activities where she was a Brownie Troop Leader, a 4H Leader, band parent, and the school carpool driver for the neighborhood kids. She enjoyed camping, fishing with her husband Daleand reading. She was an outgoing, loving, talkative woman who loved her family, friends, and church.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ellen Darlene Robinson, and her brother Harry Malcolm Goodwin, all of Laurel Hill.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, 11 months, and 27 days (almost made it to 60), Danny Dale Connell of the home; three daughters, Dana Dale Connell of Cornelius, Sharon Lynn Mullen (Troy) of Fuquay Varina, and Paula Connell Venkus (Chris) of Cornelius; three grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Mullen of Fuquay Varina, Zachary Christopher Venkus and Matthew Henry Venkus, both of Cornelius; a brother-in-law, William Thomas Connell and a sister-in-law Norma Hardy Connell both of Raeford; nieces Cynthia Connell Ross, Carolyn Wilburn Felix (Kevin), Jaclyn Kimbrell (Dale); and nephews, Melvin Richard (Skip) Spera III (Deborah), Val Edward Spera, Stephen Avery Connell (Robin), Steven Wilburn (Shelly), and Sammy Robinson (Kristin).
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 14, 2021 at the Raeford Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas Lee officiating.
