Grady L. Peeler, Jr. of Raeford died Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Southeastern Hospice House at the age of 86.
He was born in Cleveland County on September 9, 1926 to the late Grady L. Peeler, Sr. and Novella Peeler. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Townsend Peeler. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean War, and various other tours before retiring in 1966. He was a member of the Raeford United Methodist Church, the Bob Lewis Sunday School Class, and The Shriner's of Raeford, and was chairman of the board of the Hillcrest Fire Department, and two-time past president of the Raeford Masonic Lodge #306. He was a member of Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife, Doris C. Peeler of Raeford; his son, Ron L. Peeler and his wife Jan of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two step-sons, Bill Almond of Raleigh, and Charles Almond and his wife Amiee of Wilmington; three sisters; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Raeford United Methodist Church, 308 N. Main Street, Raeford.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Raeford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Adolph Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery with full military honors.

Glenna E. O'Donnell
Glenna Elaine O'Donnell of Fayetteville died Monday, March 4, 2013 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 65.
She was born in Marion County, Indiana on July 15, 1947.
Glenna is survived by her husband of 26 years, Michael F. O'Donnell of Fayetteville; her daughters, Elizabeth Ruckman and Erin Freund; her brother, Daniel Hubble; and three grandchildren.

Aline Thompson of Raeford died, Wednesday, March 6, 2013 in Autumn Care of Raeford at the age of 88.
She was born in Dillon County, South Carolina on September 9, 1924 to the late Ernest Arnette and Vera Pearl Ellis Arnette. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Thompson. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, sewing, and was devoted to reading the Bible and spending time with her Lord and Savior.
She is survived by her son, Charles Thompson and his wife Faye of Raeford; her daughter, Betty Jean Sheffield of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church, 379 W. Palmer Street.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Burns officiating. Burial will be in the Raynham Baptist Church Cemetery in Rowland.

Leonard D. Thompson
Retired Army Staff Sgt. Leonard Donzie Thompson, 83, of Raeford, died Sunday, March 3, 2013.
Survivors are: sons, Jerry, Mike, Jeff Pixley; siblings; Beadie Wheeler, Marie, Katie Edelen, Kenneth; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wed. Mar. 6 at 12:30 p.m. in Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake.

William T. "Bill" Niven
William Thomas "Bill" Niven of Seven Lakes died Sunday, March 3, at ManorCare Health Services in Pinehurst following an illness. He was 84.
He was born July 29, 1928 in Raeford, a son of Julius Frank Niven and Minnie Mae McGill Niven.
He served his country for 20 years in the United States Air Force, and primarily flew fighter-interceptor aircraft including tours in Korea and Vietnam, before retiring as a Major.
Following his retirement he was appointed Civil Defense Director for Hoke County, a job that grew and changed during another career that ended with his retirement as Emergency Management Director. During that time, he established Hoke County's first EMS ambulance system.
Twice retired, he worked for more than 10 years as a reservist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency, taking part in teams that responded to natural and other disasters primarily in the eastern United States. He was a Mason and Past Master of both the Raeford and West End lodges. He was a member of West End United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Tommie" Niven of the home; a son, William Thomas "Deuce" Niven II of Tabor City and wife Amy; a daughter, Lori "Gert" Wilder Niven of Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven nephews; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robin Keith Niven; five brothers; four sisters; and a granddaughter.
Visitation will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, in the Fellowship Hall at West End United Methodist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Won S. Namkoong. A committal service, with full military honors, will be held, at 4:30 p.m. at Raeford Cemetery in Raeford.
