Ronald Chason

Ronald Jan Chason of Lumber Bridge died Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the age of 65.

He was born in Hoke County on January 13, 1951 to the late Harold James Chason and Leona McFadyen Chason.

He is survived by his brother, Danny Chason and his wife, Gloria of Lumber Bridge; his sisters Peggy Smith of Raleigh, Mary Elizabeth Shelton and her husband Roger of Mint Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Beauford L. Mays

Beauford Laverne Mays, 78, of Aberdeen, North Carolina, passed away Monday, December 12th, 2016peacefully surrounded by his family.

He was born April 18th, 1938 in Quewhiffle to John Brady Mays and America Leanna (Creed) Mays. On October 7th, 1958 he married Alomagene Jean Finley. He was raised on a family farm where he worked in tobacco until he began a career with the United States Air Force, where he spent four years. After completing his military service, he owned and operated many restaurants in Moore and Hoke counties and also began working for the United States Postal Service, where he later retired. He enjoyed his retirement golfing, fishing, restoring classic cars with his brother Kenneth, religiously eating breakfast with his friends at local diners and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Jean, of 58 years; his daughter, Debra (Mays) Stephenson and husband Tim; his son, Alton Mays; his grandchildren, Kaylon Honeycutt and wife Jessica, Joshua Mays and wife Brittney, and Allison "Holly" Dean; four great grandchildren; his sister, Imogene (Mays) Cox and husband Billy; and his brother, Kenneth Mays and wife Elizabeth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and America Mays and his siblings, Marshall Mays, Aileen Creed, Thelma Bayliff, Opal Jones, Mildred Quick (formerly Deese) and Bernie Mays.

A viewing and visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 15 at Eagle Springs Baptist Church, 460 Eagle Springs Rd in Eagle Springs. A graveside service will follow at the same location at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Matt Brogli and Dr. Zeb Moss officiating.

Carmen Colon

Carmen Gloria Molina Colón, also known to many as Gogi, passed away peacefully in her home in Raeford at age 82 on December 11, 2016. 

She was born in Laras, Puerto Rico on April 13, 1934 to Angelina Gonzalez and Antonio Molina.  

She married on November 3, 1956 and raised five children in New Jersey for more than 24 years, then moved to Savannah, Georgia for retirement and later to her final home in Raeford.  While in New Jersey she worked at Thatcher Glass for a number of years. She enjoyed roses and shopping at JC Penny. She sewed and made the best black beans and rice, and enjoyed trips to Hawaii and Ecuador. 

She is survived by her husband of 60 years Samuel Caban Colón; her five children, Carmen Brown and spouse Charles Brown, Marisol Scales and spouse Randy Scales, Angelina Drake, Samuel Colón, and Elizabeth Alves and her spouse Edward Alves; eight grandchildren, Michael Bozzelli and his wife Eliza, Kevin Bozzelli, Nicholas Drake and his fiancé Darian Crutchfield, Autumnlee Brown, Haili Drake, Sienna Brown, Samuel Alves and Abigail Alves; two great-grandchildren, Parker Ian Drake and Michael Hunter Bozzelli; sister Norma Colón; and brothers Samuel Molina, William Molina and Efrain Molina.

A mass of Catholic Burial will be held 12:30 p.m. Thursday, December 15 at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church. The family will receive relatives at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford, Wednesday, between 1 and 4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Virginia "Ginny" Rauch

Virginia "Ginny" Crouse Wood Rauch, died peacefully in her sleep in Fredericksburg, Virginia on December 8, 2016. 
She was born on January 18, 1941 in Newburgh, New York to Glenn and Lillian Wood. She graduated from Hoke County High School in 1959 then studied music at Flora MacDonald College in Red Springs and St Andrews University Laurinburg.  She traveled the United States, England, Canada, Japan and The Philippines as a Navy wife.  After a career as a Navy traveler, she lived in Woodbridge, Virginia, Raeford, Chesapeake, Virginia and Fredericksburg, Virginia.  She was a lifelong musician and was always either the church organist, choir director, or a dedicated member of the choir. Teaching, however, was her greatest passion. As a voice and piano teacher, her students number in the thousands and include many current professional stage and TV performers throughout the US. She also was very active in every community in which she lived and was very proud of her membership with the Lions Club where she was the "Lions of Virginia Bland Music Scholarship Foundation" coordinator for many years. 
Her parents as well as her brothers Glenn, Roy and Tom Wood Preceded her in death.  She is survived by two sons, Ken Jr. of Fredericksburg, and Karl of Virginia Beach; daughters-in-law Kelly and Cindy; grandchildren Kyle, Katie, Elly, Peyton and Kaden; sisters-in-law Jeanette of Raeford, Mary of Wicomico, Maryland and Peggy of Hays; and many cousins. 
A memorial service will be held at the Raeford United Methodist Church, 308 N Main St, Raeford on December 17 at 11 a.m.

Thomas M. Hollingsworth

Thomas M. Hollingsworth of Raeford passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at the age of 77.

He was born in Sampson County on March 2, 1939 to the late Perdie Lee Hollingsworth and Carressie Knowles Hollingsworth. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend that will be missed by many.

He is survived by his sons, Mac Hollingsworth and his wife, Kim of Raeford, Jeff Hollingsworth and his wife, Stacy of Raeford; and five grandchildren, Natalie, Lily, Peyton, Finley, and Miles.

The family will receive friends at Crumpler Funeral Home on Monday, December 12 from 6-8 p.m.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m.  on Tuesday, December 13 at the Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tex Deaton officiating. Burial will be in the Highland Biblical Gardens.
