James John Caruso Sr

James John Caruso Sr., who most people knew only as "Cheat" or "Chico," was called home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, July 13 2016 after a brave battle with leukemia.
Born on Jun 13 1954 in Wilmington, he was the son of Nicholas John and Rebecca Caruso. He was preceded in death by his mother, and brother Nick.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 23 years, Toni Caulder-Caruso; daughter, Niki Ann Blanko (Gerald); three grandsons, Gerald, Joshua and Jacob all of Sterling Heights, Michigan; son Jimmy and his fancy (Rose Mary) of Wilmington; and siblings John Caruso (Peggy), Wanda Nichols (Brent), Joe Caruso, Annie Cugler, Sam Caruso and Donna Fulcher (Al). He also leaves behind his faithful canine companions 8-Ball and Bolt.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Oct. 9 at 3 p.m. at his home in Raeford. Billy Joe Brady will officiate.

Loretta S. Wood

Loretta Stephens Wood, 79, of Rockfish, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, October 3, 2016.

She was born in Cumberland County on April 25, 1937. Along with being a loving mother and grandmother, she was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Rockfish. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Lewis Wood.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Rocky Wood and his wife Patty of Raeford, Gathael Wood of Raeford, Sandra Jones and her husband Wayne of Raeford, and Stevy Wood and his wife, Cherry of Raeford; three sisters, Mattie Guilette of Hope Mills, Rachael Clark of Raeford, and Betty Jean Secrest of Mt. Airy; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Mickey Hammond.

A visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Dees officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Louise Johnston

Louise Morris Johnston, 94, of Raeford was called home to her place in God's kingdom October 2, 2016, at First Health of the Carolinas in Pinehurst.

She was born November 11, 1921 in York County, South Carolina to the late Haywood and Daisy Treadwell. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben Hillis Morris Sr., her son, William "Billy" Morris of Raeford, a sister, Helen Ivey Hill, and brothers Gordon Treadwell and Ted Treadwell. She was longtime resident of Hoke County and the Arabia community. She was a member of Sandy Grove United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Hilda Morris Pulkrabek (Dale) of Crystal River, Florida and Debra Morris VanEvery Smith (Douglas) of Rockport, Texas; a son, Reuben Hillis Morris Jr. (Veronica) of Raeford; two sisters, Annie Ruth Scott (Charles) of Loxley, Alabama and Nora McMillan Meismer (JC) of Raeford; a brother, Gordon Treadwell (Cathy) of Fayetteville; daughter-in-law Paula Morris of Lumber Bridge; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Chandler and the Rev. Virgil Dwyer officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church cemetery.
