Bill Eugene Herrin

Bill Eugene Herrin, 77, passed away in his home Thursday, December 3, 2020. 

He was born January 23, 1943 to the late John Merrill and Virginia Hill Herrin and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Billy was a butcher for over 55 years and a large portion of his career was spent working in Hoke County, where he was mostly known for working at Hardin's Food Store in Rockfish. He was a simple man who enjoyed simple things and loved to make people laugh, especially with the occasional "inappropriate" joke.

He is survived by his daughter, Wanda Herrin of Fayetteville; son, (Wayne) Billy Herrin of Hope Mills; daughter, Annette Blackwell of Hope Mills; daughter, Jessica Miller of Fayetteville; sister, Brenda Sawyer of Hope Mills; ex-spouse but lifetime companion, Wilma "Peewee" Herrin; and six grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service Sunday, December 13, 2020 from 11a.m. - 2 p.m. at the VFW, 3928 Doc Bennett Road, Fayetteville.

Peter Tadafam Mangefel

Peter Tadafam Mangefel of Raeford died Monday, December 7, 2020 at the age of 38.

He was born in Yap Micronesia on February 22, 1982. He was preceded in death by his father, John Avila Mangefel, and a brother. He served in the U.S. Army as a missile technician for over 10 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jessica Mangefel of the home; two daughters, Arien Mangefel and Claire-Mae Mangefel, both of the home; his mother, Theresa Turgeg of Micronesia. He is also survived by two brothers and three sisters.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, December 12, 2020 at Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford, N.C.

Margaret Ray Pannell

Margaret Ray Pannell of Raeford died Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the age of 93.

She was born in Hoke County on August 8, 1927 to the late Daniel Max Ray and Lessie Smith Ray. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence S. Pannell.

She was a lifelong and very active member of Parker United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She is survived by a son, Daniel E. Pannell and his wife Vicki of Vass; three daughters, Laura P. Lane of Raeford, Linda C. Goepper and her husband Dant of Greenville, S.C., Eileen P. Walker and her husband Lloyd of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; two grandchildren, Patrick N. Walker and his wife Molly, and Stacy Walker; a brother, Gerald Ray of York, S.C.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Parker United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to: Parker United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 27, Raeford, N.C. 28376. Services have been entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home of Raeford.

Beverly Sue Johnson Lowery

Beverly Sue Johnson Lowery of Raeford died Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the age of 60.

She was born in Fayetteville on July 28, 1960, to the late Pete and Patsy Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband Clifton Lowery.

She is survived by a son Joseph Johnson of Raeford; two daughters Dana Johnson of Raeford, and Paula Winchester and her husband David of Raeford; four grandchildren, Justin Johnson, Jacob Johnson (Kaleen Quick) Cameron Johnson and Nevaeh Johnson all of Raeford; five sisters Janice Locklear of Raeford, Ester Poteat and her husband Willie of Fayetteville, Penny Porter and her husband Anthony of Hope Mills, Lora Locklear and her husband Melvin of Red Springs, and Judy Johnson of Asheville.

A private memorial service will be held later. Services have been entrusted to Crumpler Funeral Home of Raeford.

Frank Wright

Frank (Frankie) Aubrey Wright of Raeford died Monday, December 7, 2020 at age 50.
He was born in Fayetteville on March 28, 1970.
He is survived by his parents, Frank Wright Sr. and Kathy Nelson Wright of Raeford; three brothers, Frank (Heffie) Wright Jr. of Raeford, Daniel N. Wright and his wife Tanya of Raeford, and Jason O. Wright of Raeford; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at Tabernacle Baptist Church Cemetery with Tommy Underwood officiating.
Family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.

James Pate

James "Jimmy" Pate died peacefully November 19, 2020 at Duke University Hospital due to heart failure.
He demonstrated the gift of love and caring for his family, friends, and neighbors with acts of kindness and charity.
He was proceeded in death by his Mother Ethel P. Moore, Father John Moore, grandmother Ada Pate Butler, twin brother Johnny Pate, sister Doreen Morrison, and grandchild Larry Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years Sallie T. Pate; his son James David Pate; his daughters Melinda P. Rogers, Teresa Pate (Tom), Kim P. Brown (Scott), and Jessica P. Huffman (Marco); his sisters, Carol Rutigliano (Sam), Deborah Oldham, and Mariellen Moore-Grimm; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. and the funeral 4-5 p.m. December 13, 2020 at Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church.
