Marie Cameron Brown, retired Hoke County educator and beloved mother and grandmother, died on Saturday, June 25, 2016 in Raeford.
A Raeford native, she was born to the late Hugh Archie and Mary Florence "Florrie" Upchurch Cameron. She attended Peace College and Salem College before beginning her education career teaching Chemistry, Biology and Home Economics. Her first jobs were with the Davie County School System and Salem Academy in Winston Salem. Eventually, she returned to Raeford to teach at Hoke County High School.
After a rewarding teaching career, she retired to Swansboro to enjoy the North Carolina coast. There, she worked as a realtor and pursued her hobbies of photography and sewing. She could often be found at local festivals with her beautiful lighthouse photos and hand-sewn crafts. She moved back to Raeford in 2004.
She is survived by her children Evelyn Fram and husband Evan of Flagstaff, Arizona, Vernon "Butch" Brown and wife Mary Anne of Verona, and Cam Brown and wife Cathy of Raeford. In addition she had three grandchildren, Holly Brown of Greenville, Adam Brown of Raleigh, and Eric Fram of Los Angeles, California. Her siblings Tom Cameron, Hubert Cameron, Mollie Cameron Tuttle, Don Cameron, and Florence Cameron Weaver preceded her in death.
A service to remember and celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at Raeford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Wingo officiating.
