Barry R. Walker

Barry Randall Walker, age 72, died Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center in Florida.

Born August 18, 1947 in Raeford to Woodrow Wilson Walker and Elizabeth Aldred Walker, he was a longtime resident of the Lakeland area.  He was a banker, specializing in mortgage and loan servicing at various banks including Flagship, Barnett, and SunTrust.  He was also heavily involved in the community with a leadership position in the Lion's Club as well as the Margarita Society.  His passions in life included spending time with his family and high school friends, and he was an automobile racing enthusiast.   

He is survived by a brother, Wayne; three sons, Ryan, Trey, and Jonathan; and four grandchildren, Charlotte, Caroline, Carson, and Layla.

A memorial service will be held at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford, Saturday, November 2 at 11 a.m.  As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Alzheimer's Association.

Virgil "Ted" Clark Jr.


Virgil Page "Ted" Clark Jr., 91, died in his home in Lafayette, Louisiana Tuesday, October 15, surrounded by his loving family.
Affectionately known as "Ted", he was born April 17, 1928, in Southern Pines. He graduated from Hoke County High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy.  A proud veteran, he served his country in the Navy until 1949 and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1949 to 1953.  
In 1956, he obtained his A&P license from the Embry Riddle School of Aviation in Miami, Florida and began his career in the helicopter industry, starting with Petroleum Helicopters.  He went on to work at Republic Aviation, Bell Helicopter Co. and Vought Helicopter Co. as well as Giovanni Agusta, and eventually retired from Air Logistics in 2000.  During his career he traveled extensively throughout South America to Bogota, Colombia, Santiago, Chile, Lima, Peru and Mérida, Mexico as well as Cuba, Panama and Puerto Rico. He also spent time in Azores, Bahamas in the Caribbean, overseas in England and Italy and the Canadian province of Newfoundland in addition to many places across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
He was an avid golfer and loved to spend time with his family, friends and fellow golfers. He was a loving father and grandfather.  
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Fay Ann Cutitto Clark; his parents, Virgil Page Clark and Marvin Belle White Clark; his sister, Helen Lee Surles; and his brother, Raleigh "Gene" Clark.
He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Clark Guidry and her husband Keith, of Lafayette; son Scott Clark and his wife Jackie, of Grand Prairie, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Reagan and Justin Guidry, and Tyler and Olivia Clark; half-brother, Herman "Rock" King Jr., of Hendersonville; brother-in-law Rudy Mills, of Perdido Key, Florida; and niece Carla Mills, of Little Rock, Arkansas.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at 11:30 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette, Louisiana. Visitation will be observed at 9 a.m. prior to the service. A rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. Father Matthew P. Higginbotham, Pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Washington, Louisiana will officiate.
Inurnment with full military honors will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette, LA.

Chalrie Hendrix

Charlie "Howard" Hendrix of Raeford passed away peacefully after a long illness at the FirstHealth Hospice House on October 16, 2019 at the age of 81.
He was born in Hoke County on September 16, 1938 to Charlie Franklin and Ruth Carter Hendrix. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served on the USS Princeton, USS Coral Sea, USS America, and the USS Ranger. After 20 years of dedicated service to his country, he began working at Burlington Industries as well as Faberge´. He also worked for the City of Raeford and Greenscape Landscaping before becoming the owner and operator of Hendrix Yard Care. He enjoyed fishing, sitting on his porch, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Benny, Willie, Robert, Lonnie, and his sister, Mamie Hendrix Rockholt.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janet Lawing Hendrix of Raeford; his son, Karl Howard Hendrix and his wife, Wendy of Raeford; his daughter, Leah Hendrix Lundy and her husband, James of Interlachen, Florida; his grandchildren, Kristen Hendrix Danét and her husband, Gabriel of Raeford, Jessica Hendrix Brown and her husband, Taylor of Raeford, Joshua Howard Hendrix and his wife, Christina of Raeford, Megan Gail Lundy of Interlachen, Florida,and Emily Kaye Lundy of Interlachen, Florida; his great-grandchildren, Jayda Jones, Elijah Danét, River Danét, and Brooklynn Lundy; and his brother, Noah Alfred Hendrix and his wife, Audrey of Raeford.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.
The funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church with Pastor Bucky Hendrix and Pastor Roger Burns officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Raeford Evangelical Methodist Church Youth Group.

Jessie McNeill

Elder Jessie B. McNeill of 1864 Cascade Street, Fayetteville, died October 14, 2019.

She was a teacher in Hoke County for many years. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

Surviving are a brother, William O. Blue, and a sister, Edith McLean.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 11- noon at Smith Chapel FWB Church.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at noon in the church. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
