Margaret Davis

Margaret Lytle Davis, age 90, passed away on November 27, 2014. She had lived most of her life in Raeford until 2011 when she moved to Kannapolis with her daughter and family. She graduated in 1942 from Hoke High School. After high school she lived in Detroit, Michigan where she worked for the Army Signal Corp during the war years. Returning home, she worked at the Hoke County Home Extension Agency, Hostetler and McNeill Attorneys at Law, Raeford Savings and Loan, Progressive Savings and Loan, and New Century Bank. She retired in 1989 at the age of 65, then went back and continued to work for 16 more years at New Century Bank. She received the Employee of the Month Award in October 2007 for "a shining example of neighbor helping neighbor" from New Century Bank. Due to health reasons, she had to retire again in November 2007. Her work ethic was unsurpassed. She married Chalmers B. Davis, of Raeford in 1946 and they had one daughter, Deborah.
While in Raeford, she enjoyed her friends and her church,ford Presbyterian Church. She volunteered for Hospice of Hoke County, which her sister Ruth L. Phillips helped found in Hoke County.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Davis Helms, as their "Aunt Margaret."
The family will receive visitors Sunday, November 30 from 2-3 p.m. at the John Ropp Hall at Raeford Presbyterian Church in Raeford, followed by by the funeral at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary, with burial following the service at the Raeford Cemetery.

Harold "Buzz" E. Stone

Harold "Buzz" E. Stone Jr. DDS, 73 of Jacksonville, Florida died Tuesday, November 18, 2014.
He spent several summers in Raeford. He was the son of Harold and Elizabeth Stone and grandson of M.B. and Annie McFadyen Warren. He remembered the good times at Robert and Mamie Gatlin's pond. He was raised in Falls Church, VA and attended UNC undergraduate and dental school, served in the Navy for a few years and then opened a dental office in Jacksonville, FL. He enjoyed all water sports and had a power boat, jet ski and sail boat over the years.
Survivors are: cousins, Chan Roberts, Mary Roberts Shapiro and pat Hood McNeill ; aunt Jennie Warren Hood and a host of friends.
A memorial/graveside service will be held at a later date.
