Gene Carter

 William E. "Gene" Carter of Raeford, died Friday, November 27, 2015 in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital, at the age of 76.

He was born in Hoke County, on October 28, 1939, to the late Robert Lee Carter and Mary Cashion Carter. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Bobby Carter, Ann Lowder, and James Carter. He was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church.

In April, 1973, He was named Executive Vice President of the Bank of Raeford. He was a former Raeford native, who had been associated with Waccamaw Bank in Tabor City, Lumberton and Chabourn for seven years. He was a graduate of the UNC School of Banking and had also completed numerous American Institute of Banking courses. In 1974 he was elected President of the Bank of Raeford. Following the merger of Bank of Raeford with UCB, which is now BB&T, he was then appointed to the BB&T State Board of Directors, until his required retirement. Following his banking career, he opened W.E. Carter Realty in Raeford. He was President of Upchurch Milling and Storage Company, Vice President of T.B. Upchurch Inc, Secretary and Treasurer of Maxton Farms Inc. and member of the Hoke County Board of Economic Development.

He is survived by his wife, Eloise Upchurch Carter of Raeford; his son, William E. Carter, Jr. (Leigh) of Laurinburg; three grandchildren, Claire, Carleigh, and Kate; his sister, Dodie Currie of Laurinburg; three nieces, Lynn Currie Jernigan (Lynn) of Dunn, Laura Lowder of Aberdeen, Deann Lowder of Aberdeen; nephew, Johnny Carter of Raeford; several cousins.

Visitation will be Monday, November 30, 2015 from 11-11:45 am, at the Raeford Presbyterian Church, in the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall.  A graveside service will begin at noon in the Raeford Cemetery.

Eliza Bullard

Eliza Newell Walters Bullard went home peacefully to her Lord and Savior on November 24, 2015 in Raleigh.  She was born August 19, 1920 to J. Alford and Fannie C. Walters of Raeford. She was a devoted wife for 71 years to Leroy Henderson (Henry) Bullard, who predeceased her.  She was a beloved mother to three daughters, grandmother to six, and great-grandmother to 12.  Her three sons-in-law were loved as sons by her.

She retired from Civil Service.  She inspired her family and others with her abiding faith in Jesus Christ and her unselfish love.  She willingly served in her church, community, and Bible Study Fellowship.

She is survived by daughters Betty (Fred) Tyner of Raleigh, Linda (Maurice) Jennings of Greensboro, and Henrietta (John) Meaney of Prosper, TX;  grandchildren Beth (Barry) Jones, Leslie (Bryan) Smith, Cooper Fowler, Sinclair (Robert) McLean, John Paul (Christy) Meaney, and Tom Meaney; and great-grandchildren Claire and Nate Jones, Gracie and Abby Smith, Cooper, Alex, and Pierce Fowler, Eliza Jane, Dixon, Malcom, and Henry McLean, and Anabel Meaney.

The funeral will be held November 29 at the Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church, 400 N. Fayetteville Street, Lumber Bridge, NC 28357.  Contributions may be made to the Church or to the American Cancer Society.

Larry Davis


Larry Junior Davis of Raeford, age 65, died Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at his home.
He was born in Hoke County on June 6, 1950, to the late David and Evelyn McMillan Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Frances W. Davis of Raeford; one stepdaughter, Kimberly Avina and her husband David of Raeford; three stepsons, Patrick Miller of Raeford, Mark Miller and his wife Jennifer of Raeford and Bradley Miller and his wife Katie of Asheville; one brother, David Davis and his wife Mary of Raeford; six sisters, Libby Brock of Autryville, Shelby Simmons and her husband Archie of Oregon, Carolyn Blanton and her husband Jack of Raeford, Wanda Phillips and her husband Richard of Raeford, Debbie Pittman and her husband Wade of Raeford and Betty Eshbaugh and her husband Dennis of Bessemer City; 12 Grandchildren; and 4 Great-grandchildren.
A private Memorial Service will be held later

Lucy P. Gray

Lucy Parton Gray, 96, died Friday, November 6,2015
Lucy was born June 22, 1919 in Waynesville, NC to the late Oliver H. and Belle Warren Parton.
Along with her parents she was predeceased in death by her husband Raymond W. Gray; son, Fred Hembree; and grandson Steve Henbree.
Survivors are: daughter, Linda Kelchner; sister, Edith Baldwin; four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren
A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM Monday, November 9, 2015 at Lafayette Memorial Park West.

Sarah Baicy

Sarah Gladys Williamson Baicy, formerly of Raeford, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015, in Autumn Care of Nash at the age of 97.

She was born in Lumberton on March 3, 1918, to the late Grover Williamson and Dora McCormick Williamson. She attended school in Oxford, and at the age of 16 entered Flora MacDonald College, graduating in 1938 with degrees in English and History. She taught high school for three years in Roper until her marriage to Edward Owen Baicy. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Jim Williamson, and sisters Marie Warner and Joyce McDiarmid.

She is survived by her sons, Edward Baicy (Vangie) of Singapore, John Baicy (Marivic) of Houston, Texas, Robert Baicy, of Garner, and William Baicy (Kathy) of Littleton; her daughter, Joan Godsey (Richard), of Leverett, Massachusetts; 18 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Raeford Cemetery on Thursday, December 3, 2015, with the Reverend Michael L McGehee officiating.

 

Earl P. Boahn

Earl Peavy Boahn of Raeford, died Friday, November 20, 2015, at the age of 65.

He was born July 21, 1950 in Hoke County to the late Carl Clarence Boahn and Hettie Edwards Boahn.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deanna Jean Boahn and a brother Clarence Howard Boahn.

He is survived by his 2 daughters, Tammy Blue (Richard), and Amanda Boahn (Rodney); 4 grandchildren, Jakob Blue, Richard Blue,Jr., Chelsey Glover, and Tyler Glover; 5 brothers, George Boahn (Francis), Clarence Boahn (Karen S.), John Boahn (Doris), Joe Boahn, and Jim Boahn (Karen); his mother-in-law Margaret Shortt; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend.

No funeral services are scheduled.

 

Myrtle W. Evans


 Myrtle Warwick Evans of Shannon, died Friday, November 20, 2015 at the age of 94.
She was born November 10, 1921 in Robeson County to the late Henry and Sallie Holmes Warwick. Her husband, Paul Evans preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Antioch Presbyterian Church, The Women's Circle and The Woodmen of the World.
She is survived by 2 sons, Phillip Evans and his wife Joyce of Asheville; Billy Evans and his wife Tish of Shannon; 4 grandchildren, Todd, Lisa, Letitia, and Paula; and 6 great-grandchildren, Erin, Emily, Mac, Nadalee, Lane and Bailey.
A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Floyd Memorial Cemetery in Fairmont.
