Robert T. Veasey

Robert Thomas "Bob" Veasey, 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014.

He was born in Hoke County, on March 14, 1921, to Arthur and Annie Laura (Waller) Veasey.
Bob led an active and fruitful life. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the European theater. He later settled in Aberdeen where he raised his family, was an active member of the First Baptist Church and served on the Aberdeen Town Council. He worked for the Aberdeen and Rockfish Railroad for 50 years before his retirement, beginning as a freight agent and eventually being named its president and director. Bob was actively involved with the American Legion and recently received a certificate for 62 years of service. He was an avid gardener, and is known by those who loved him, to take great pride in his yard.
He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Virginia "Jenny" Carroll Veasey; his children, Mary Veasey Foster of Aberdeen, Jean Veasey Fromson (and Gerald) of WinstonSalem, Bob Jr. of Florence S.C., David Carroll (and Mae) of Raeford, and Bruce Carroll (and Renie) of Maryville Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, John Edward Burns, Laura Burns Andrews, Benjamin Fromson (and Callie), Sarah Fromson, Brad Veasey, Holli Allen (and Christopher), Connor Veasey and Justin, Marie and Samuel Carroll; and seven great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, in First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. Burial will follow in Bethesda Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Oct. 10, 2014, at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines.
The family is grateful for the loving care he received over the past two months from the staff of The Carolina House of Pinehurst and hospice services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in honor of Bob's life be made to the First Baptist Church of Aberdeen Building Fund, P.O. Box 1066 Aberdeen, NC 28315.

Dwight D. Green

Dwight D. Green, 59, of 125 Malloy St., died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014.
Survivors are: wife, Annie; children, Dwight, Gary Douglas and Venita; sisters, Shirley Scott, Dorothy Melvin, Ellen Williams and Cynthia; eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m. in J.W. Turlington School. Burial will be in Mount McLauchlin Chapel Church cemetery. 
Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 10 from 1 to 7p.m. at Buie Funeral Home in Raeford.


 

 

Corbett R. Autry

Corbett R. Autry of Lumber Bridge died Wednesday, October 8, 2014 in Greenville at the age of 84.
He was born in Harnett County on April 20, 1930 to the late George "Raz" Autry, Sr. and Bertie Lee Autry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Woolley Autry, his brothers, George "Raz" Autry, Jr., George Autry, and his sister Margaret Parker. He proudly served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his son, Delone R. Autry of Raleigh; his daughter, Kathy Autry of Raleigh; his brothers, Charles Autry (Jessie) of Greenville, Wallace Autry (Edna) of Dunn, and Col. Jerry Autry, Ret. (Jackie) of San Francisco, California.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford 6-8 p.m.
A graveside service will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery in Dunn at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Wilson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Rosie J. Gillespie

Rosie J. Gillespie, 87, of Raeford, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014.
Survivors are: sons, Wilbert and Joe; four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Thurs. Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. in St. John Baptist Church in Shannon. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation, an hour prior to the service at the church.

Alberto Cancel Jr.

Alberto Cancel Jr., infant son of Alberto Sr. and Brooke Cancel, of 363 United Road, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014.
No services are planned at this time.

Allen Wilton Wood

Allen Wilton Wood Jr., 87, went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 7, 2014. He died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in the Rockfish community July 6, 1927 to Allen W. Wood and Mary Kate Easterling Wood. He was predeceased in death by his brothers, Young McDonald Wood and Harold Craig Wood, a nephew, Joe Allen Monroe and a step-granddaughter, Brenna Marie Currie. He graduated from Hoke High School and then served briefly in the United States Navy at the end of World War II. He returned home after the war and attended Presbyterian Junior College in Maxton, North Carolina and then went to work for the Bank of Raeford. In 1963 he entered the insurance business as an agent with National Old Line Insurance Company, now TransAmerica Life Insurance Company, and served with the company for 51 years.
He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Rockfish during his youth, and later joined First Baptist Church of Raeford with his wife Jeanne as a young married couple where he was an active member for 50 years. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Aberdeen. Wilton was also involved in the Kiwanis Club of Raeford for many years, and was a member of the Hoke County Board of Education from 1961-1976.
He was preceded in death by his school-teacher-bride and wife of 48 years, Jeanne Craik Shiel Wood. They made their home together in Raeford until her death on May 1, 1997. He subsequently married Betty McGugan Currie of Red Springs and settled in Moore County.
Other surviving family include his daughter Jeanne Elizabeth (Beth) Wood Walters and her husband Stuart of Fayetteville, and sons Allen W. Wood III and partner Kenneth Wilkinson of Hickor, David Shiel Wood and his wife Judy of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and John Mark Wood and his wife Janet of Haw River; stepsons, Larry Eugene Currie and his wife Joann of Jamestown, Richard Keith Currie and his wife Becky of Red Springs, and stepdaughter Marcia Ann Currie of Greensboro; his sister Julian Ann Wood Monroe of Raeford; his brother Marion McQuage Wood and his wife Virginia of Southern Pines; grandchildren Mark Corriher Wood, David Shiel Wood, Jr. and his wife Dr. Bernadette Wood, Anne Elizabeth Wood, John Wilton Wood, Leland Tracey Wood, Susan Elizabeth Walters Brown and her husband HM3 David Brown, Sarah Stuart Walters, Stephanie Suzanne Wood McNeely and her husband Bobby McNeely, Lauren Kimberly Wood and Melissa Morgan Wood; step-grandchildren Trevor Martin, Heather Gates, Alex Gates, Michael Andrew Currie and his wife Amanda, and Benjamin Neal Currie; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews Don Wood, Jr. Becky Wood, Barry Wood, Todd Wood, Ronald Monroe and Deborah McLeese.
A service celebrating his life will be held at First Baptist Church of Aberdeen on
October 10 at 11 a.m. The family will receive guests in the church fellowship hall prior to the service at 10 a.m. The Rev. Mike Branscome and the Rev. Zeb Moss will officiate. A burial service at Raeford Cemetery will be conducted at 1:30 p.m.
Crumpler Funeral Home of Raeford is serving the family.

Carlos "Buzzy" Goodman

Carlos Wendell (Buzzy) Goodman, Jr., died Thursday, October 2, 2014 in Lithia Springs, Georgia.
He was born in Asheboro, NC on March 31, 1957.
He is preceded in death by his father Carlos Wendell Goodman, Sr.
He was an avid motorcycle rider and he loved his daughter and grandbabies. He was a hard worker for his family.
He is survived by his wife Kris (Pebbles) of Parkton; a daughter, Daphnie Goodman Hartman (Brian) of Hampstead; three grandchildren Austin Hartman, Hayleigh Hartman, Hanna Hartman all of Hampstead; his mother Ann Parker Goodman of Raeford; four brothers, James C. Goodman (Meloney) of Raeford, Donnie Goodman of Raeford, Ronnie Goodman (Melody) of Rockfish and Jeff Goodman (Mary) of Fayetteville; and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be 7-9 Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Celebration of Praise Church of God, with the Rev. James Goodman officiating. Burial will be in Raeford Cemetery.

Jerry Lomack

Jerry Lomack, 64, of 910 N. Jackson St., died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014.
Survivors are: wife, Elma; children, Renee Jackson, Tina McKinney, Maurice and Shanell; sisters, Eloise Everette and Geraldine; and brothers, Dennis, Kenneth, Donnie, Ronnie, Ervin and Samuel Jr.
The funeral was held Sun. Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m. in Friendship Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

 




Willie M. Farmer

Willie Mae Farmer, 62, of 101 Woodcreek Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014.
Survivors are: sons, Larry Morrison, Robert III; father, William Morrison; siblings, Shirley Benjamin, Anne Morrison, Patricia Thornton, William Monroe, Aaron Morrison; four grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tues. Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. in Cunningham & Sons Mortuary chapel, Fayetteville. Burial will be in Mount Hebrew Church cemetery in Parkton.
 Visitation will be held Mon. Oct. 6 from 1 to 7 p.m.at the funeral home.
