Mark A. Read

Retired Chief Warrant Officer 2 Mark A. Read, 42, of Red Springs, died Saturday, April 12, 2014.
Retired Chief Warrant Officer 2 Mark A. Read retired honorably from the U.S. Army 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) after 22 years of service.
Retired Chief Warrant Officer 2 Mark A. Read is the son of the late Edgar and Linda Read.
Survivors are: his wife, Rocio (Ricki); daughter, Randi; son, Zeth; brother, Phil; and sisters, Carolina and Rebecca.
His Life Celebration will be held in the Special Forces Association, Doc Bennett Road, Fayetteville, NC 28306, Saturday, April 26, 2014, at 1 p.m.

Harry P. Walters

Harry Pink (H.P.) Walters, Sr. died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 81.

He was born March 6, 1933 in Robeson Co to the late Archie A. and Dora Prevatte Walters. He was also preceded in death by his brother Archie, and four sisters Evelyn, Gladys, Vera, and Eva.

He served in the U.S. Army. He was employed with Burlington Industries and Cambridge Arms Apartments before he retired. In his spare time he loved gardening, trying to beat the largest peanut world record. He also loved bowling, and fishing. He was a charter member of Community United Methodist Church, which he helped build, and where he served as treasurer for over 30 years.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jean Walters, a son Harry Walters, Jr. and his wife Barbara, a daughter Melody Causey and her husband Jimmie, four grandchildren, Matt, Mallory, Skylar and Savannah, and  two sisters Jimmie Fulk and her husband Waylon andO'Lee Bowen and her husband Everette. He is also survived by his boxer Brody.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Community United Methodist Church with The Rev. Thomas Simpson officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after the service in the church fellowship hall.


Franklin R.Teal

Franklin R. Teal, 81, of Raeford passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014.

 

Born October 14, 1932, his parents named the newborn Franklin Roosevelt Teal in hopes of Franklin Roosevelt being elected president the following month.

 

He graduated from Hoke High School in 1951 and Pembroke State College in 1962. He served in the army from 1954 to 1956. He worked in the banking and savings and loan business for over thirty years in Hoke County. He served on the Town Board of Raeford from 1965 to 1973, and was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church where he served on the session. He was known for his love of baseball, often recalling games, players, and plays from years past.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Flax Teal, and seven loving brothers and sisters.

 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly Teal of Raeford; a son, Jimmy Teal and his wife Rebecca of Fayetteville; and a brother Ted Teal of Laurinburg.

 

Visitation will be held Sunday 7-9  p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford, NC 28376.

 

The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at  Raeford Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael L.McGehee officiating. Following the committal at the cemetery, the family will return to the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Raeford Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, 128 W. Edinborough Ave, Raeford, NC 28376.

Eloise J. Hedgeth

Eloise J. Hedgpeth of Red Springs died Friday, April 18, 2014 in Autumn Care of Fayetteville at the age of 82.
She was born in Robeson County on December 9, 1931 to the late Neal Archie Johnson and Minnie D. Strickland Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby E. Hedgpeth, her daughter, Vickie Hedgpeth, and two sisters, Christine Hill and Helen Lyle. Mrs. Hedgpeth was a member of the Red Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors are: daughter, Patsy Page and her husband, Layton of Clement, Catherine Austin and her husband, Tony of Southern Pines; her son, Eddie Hedgpeth of Raeford; four grandchildren, Amy Slaughter, Julie Johnston, Jan Hughes-Austin, and Terra Register; six great grandchildren; her sister, Peggy Whitfield of Acworth, GA; a niece, Lynn Ringwalt of Ellijay, GA; a nephew, Danny Hill of Red Springs; mother-in-law, Blanche Hedgpeth; three brothers- in-law, Jimmy, Vardell, Steve Hedgpeth; several great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m at Crumpler Funeral Home, 220 E. 4th Ave, Red Springs, NC.
A graveside service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in the Alloway Cemetery.
