Judith H. Martin

Judith Hodges Martin, 96, of Raeford died Saturday, March 3 at Pinehurst Healthcare & Rehabilitation. 
She was born on May 21, 1921 in Surry County to the late Floyd Herman and Lora Elizabeth Lawson Hodges. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Church of Christ in Aberdeen. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Martin. 
She is survived by three sons, Herman Martin of Aberdeen, Thomas Martin (Stella) of Clayton, and David Martin (Alicia) of Sanford; daughter, Glenda Glockner (Julius) of Raeford; brother, Luther Hodges of Whispering Pines; sister, Gray Garrett of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at the Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst with Bob Mason, Terry Graves, and Wesley Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Red Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Carthage.
Family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. prior to the funeral.
Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst, 35 Parker Lane, is serving the family.

James T. Alexander

James T. (Jim) Alexander died March 6, 2018. 

He was born in Buie on October 6, 1927 to William L. and Bessie Turlington Alexander. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Geraldine "Jeri" Bradshaw Alexander. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Anne Langis, Edna Poole, Sally Langis and brother William "Bill" Alexander.

He was an active member of Wallace Presbyterian Church.  He was also a member of Wallace Masonic Lodge #279.  He retired as a supervisor for J. P. Stevens and from Pender County Department of Corrections. 

He is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Pat) Alexander of Wallace; a son, Jim (Jimbo) Alexander Jr. and wife Sherri of Wilmington; grandchildren, Brad Alexander and wife Morgan of Wilmington; Jamie Poole and husband Dylan of Dayton, Ohio, and Rebekah Alexander of Wilmington; his great-grandchildren, Dylan (D. J.) Poole Jr. and Thomas Stevens; a sister, Lois Austin of Raeford; brothers, Tom Alexander of Edmunds, Washington and Bob Alexander of Dublin, Georgia; and his much loved friend and companion, Marie Davis of Wallace,.  

A memorial service will be held at Wallace Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 2 p.m.  Visitation will be in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the service at 1 p.m.  At other times, the family will receive friends at his residence, 505 West Westbrook Street, Wallace.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Masonic Home For Children, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC 27565.

Mary L. Hill

Mary Lee Hill of Raeford passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the age of 83. 
She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Lollie Lee, a brother, Joe Lee and a daughter, Dixie Lee Hill. 
She is survived by her daughters, Lollie Hill Ferguson, Betty Louise Hill, Mary Susan Cockman and Elizabeth Hill Berry; her son, John O. Hill Jr.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. 
Visitation will be Saturday, March 10 from 10-11 a.m. at Rockfish Church of God, 7869 Rockfish Road, Raeford. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Raeford Cemetery.

Donald Calloway

Donald Martin Calloway of Raeford passed away in his home on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the age of 56.

He was born in Cumberland County on July 23, 1961 to the late Mawyer Calloway and Doris Cain Calloway. He attended N.C. State University and obtained his associates degree from Wayne Community College. He was an avid outdoorsman. Along with hunting and fishing, he enjoyed reading scientific journals.

He is survived by his sister, Sheila Calloway of Raeford and many aunts and uncles.

 The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 2-3 p.m. in the Raeford First Baptist Church sanctuary, 333 N. Main Street in Raeford.

A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. in the church following the visitation.

Julian S. Johnson III

Julian Samuel Johnson III of Raeford passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at his home after courageously fighting cancer for more than seven years. He was the son of the late Julian S. Johnson Jr. and Jean Clark Johnson. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Christopher Johnson.
He graduated from Wake Forest University and returned to the family farm and The Johnson Company. He was a lifelong member of Raeford Presbyterian Church where he served honorably as a deacon, elder, Sunday school teacher and member of the church choir. He served on many boards including The Lumber River Conservancy, N.C. Pine Needle Producers Association and Cape Fear Farm Credit. The N.C. Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Commission held a special place in his heart and he enjoyed working with them to preserve the wildlife and heritage of the long leaf pine forest. In 2011 in recognition of his contribution to the long leaf pine and other natural resources of the Sandhills, in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy, the U.S. Army and the N.C. Sandhills Conservation Partnership, he was awarded The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, NCSCP Champion Award and recognized as a Friend of the Regiment. His passion throughout his life was flying, beginning with soloing at age 14, then obtaining private and commercial pilot licenses, until his last flight in 2017.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Holland Johnson; his son, Julian S. Johnson IV (Jay) and his wife Jill Hartsock Johnson; grandchildren, Julian S. Johnson V and Amelia Holland Johnson; and sisters, Marianne Johnson Baker and Shirley Johnson Wright and her husband Bobby, all of Raeford.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. Wednesday March 7 in the John C. Ropp Fellowhip Hall at Raeford Presbyterian Church. The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Burial will follow in the Raeford Cemetery.

Richard Byrd

Richard Daryl Byrd of Raeford, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2018 at the age of 55. 
He was born in Lumberton on July 6, 1962. He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne H. Byrd Sr. and his brother, Wayne H. Byrd Jr.
He was the owner and operator of Byrd's Alignment in Raeford. His hobbies were working on automobiles, wood working and he coached soccer when his daughter was playing. He was an avid Dallas Cowboy's and UNC Chapel Hill fan. 
His is survived by his daughter, Christine L. Byrd of Raeford; his mother Frances Clark Byrd-Wood of Raeford; two brothers, Tony Byrd and Robin Byrd and his wife Theresa their son Austin of Raeford; a sister in law, Sherryl Byrd of Raeford. 
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford with a Memorial service to follow at 8 p.m
