Doreen "Dodie" Butler gained her wings and went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 27, 2018. She was born in Kettering, England to Harry and Rose Pope who preceded her in death.
She was a shining light in the world that never met a stranger. She was generous beyond measure and always willing to lend a hand, listening ear or shoulder to cry on.
She spent her time cultivating many lasting friendships, being a strong and faithful mother to her children, and a devoted Nannie to her four grandchildren. She loved Prince, music, and gardening, and lived life with exuberance and optimism. She passionately volunteered her time at the Hoke Literacy Council, Mayte's Rescue and with many hospice patients over the years.
She is survived by her two children, Tara and Corey; her son-in-law, Christopher Murdock; her four grandchildren, Jade, Hannah, Abby and Ethan; her brothers, Byron, Wyndam, Anthony, and Stewart; her sister, Patricia; and her many adopted families and friends.
A memorial service will be held August 4, 2018 at 5 p.m. at Raeford Assembly of God, Red Springs Rd., Raeford.

William "Billy" Black
William A. (Billy) Black of Raeford passed away Sunday, July 29, 2018 at St. Joseph of the Pines at the age of 79.
He was born August 18, 1938 in Hoke County to William Alex (Buddy) Black and Hazel Conoly Black Davis, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brother Johnny Black and grandson Brian Neal Black.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Allen Black of Lake Tillery, and Roger Craig Black of Laurel Hill; a daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Black Carpenter (Joe) of Laurinburg; a sister, Ann Black Erickson (Michael) of Maynardville, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Meagan Carpenter Dial (Champ), Joseph Carpenter, Craig Black, Tabitha Wyland, and Brandi Kittredge; 11 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held noon-1 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Crumpler Funeral Home 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeral will follow at 1 p.m. in Crumpler Funeral Home Chapel.Burial will be in Sandy Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

SFC (RET) Charles F. Brosh
SFC (RET) Charles (Chuck) Frederick Brosh of Fayetteville went to his eternal resting place on Sunday July 22, 2018, at the age of 65.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on February 17, 1953 to the late John J. Brosh and Grace Stolte Brosh. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Marie, Marsha and Joseph.
He retired from the U.S. Army 5th Special Forces as a SFC. He was a loving and caring man.
He is survived by his wife Martha A. Brosh of Fayetteville; son, CW3 Tony Brosh and wife Dawn of Raeford; four grandchildren, Anthony, Mikaela, Ronald, and Donna Jo; two brothers, John and Frank; and six sisters, Joann, Grace, Libby, Mary, Deborah, and Donna.
