Elmer "Mack" High

Elmer "Mack" High, 78, of Supply, died Monday, October 17, 2022 in Enid, Oklahoma surrounded with love by his wife and some of his family from Oklahoma.
He was born on November 24, 1943 to Elmer High and Evia Ijames High in High Point. He married the love of his life Nancy "Amanda" High on July 2, 1990. They lived in Raeford for years where Mack worked for Hoke County Sheriff's office. In 1989 he joined the Raeford Police department where he later became Chief of Police.He retired in 2002 and moved to their home in Supply.
He was proud to have served in the Navy. He also owned a shrimp boat for years with his dad. He enjoyed the ocean, boating, fishing, riding his Harley and shooting his guns. He enjoyed going to Turkey shoots with his son David with the Sharon United Methodist Church Men's Bible class. He loved the ocean and watching the boats go by in the waterway with his wife Amanda.He loved his dogs over the years but especially his current baby Sheba.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Nancy "Amanda" High, three sons, David (Haila) High of Supply, Michael Sean (Wendy) High of Denton and Daniel (Rhonda) High of Pufferton, two granddaughters, Haley High of Denton and Nina High of Pufferton, father-in-aw James W (Linda) Bean of Dayton, Ohio, mother-in-aw Joyce Bean of Enid, Oklahoma, brother-in-law James (Linda) Bean of Robbins, and sisters-in-law Ellen (Dewain) Huffmaster of Enid, Nicole (Chris) Robertson of Helena, Alabama, Mary (Karl) Jobst of Grove, Oklahoma, and Lisa (Mark) Kannair of Evansville, Indiana.
A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. October 28, 2022 in White Funeral and Cremation Service Supply/Bolivia Chapel by Dr. James Bean officiating. He will be laid to rest at Sharon Methodist Church cemetery at a later date.
A time of visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.

Eloise Carter

Eloise Upchurch Carter of Raeford, former resident of Scotia Village Retirement Community in Laurinburg, died on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at her home in Raeford at age 82.

She was born in Cumberland County on June 2, 1940 to the late Thomas Benton Upchurch Jr. and Anne Hoyl Upchurch of Raeford.  

She graduated from Hoke County High School in 1958, then went to Salem College in Winston-Salem where she graduated in 1962. After college, she taught primarily as an art teacher for the Columbus and Hoke County school systems and the Hoke County Parks and Recreation Department. She was a board member of Upchurch Milling Company.

She was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church where she served in the choir and loved decorating for events within the church. She was in the ladies' circle group and served on many committees within the church. In her later years, she loved traveling as well as playing golf. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association and enjoyed competing in club events around the South.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Eugene (Gene) Carter, her sister Betty Upchurch Hasty, and two aunts, Laura Thomas, and Elizabeth Hoyl.  

She is survived by a son, William E. Carter Jr. (Leigh) of Laurinburg, three grandchildren, Claire, Carleigh, and Kate, two nephews John Hasty (Liz) of Wagram, and Johnny Carter of Raeford,  four nieces, Flora McCook (Guy) of Laurinburg, Elizabeth Sutton (Steve) of Star, Laura Lowder of Louisiana and Deanne Lowder of Aberdeen.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 27, 2022, at the Raeford Cemetery.

Following the service, the family will receive friends at the Raeford Presbyterian Church, John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall.
