Johnny A. Thomas

Johnny Albert Thomas, 65, of Raeford, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
He was a Marine veteran.
Survivors are: children, Nodia and Taura Mascola, Johnny Hicks, Mark and Dawn Brow, Tawana and Cassandra; and brother, Roosevelt Sr.
The funeral will be held Friday, January 24 at 11 a.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford. Burial will be Monday, January 27 at noon in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

James Farmer

James Farmer, 68, of Raeford, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Bessie; children, Jamie McLean, Lamar and Juan McPhaul; sisters, Betty, Linda, Valeria, Brenda, Daretha and Hattie; and brothers, Ronald, Thomas and Darell.
The funeral will be held Saturday, January 25 at 11 a.m. Center Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in Highland Biblical Gardens.
Viewing will be today, January 24 from 1 to 6 p.m. at Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Joseph Guereschi

Joseph Guereschi, 66, of Raeford, died Thursday, January 23, 2014.
He was born in Syracuse, New York and was the former CEO of BC/BS HMO Bluecare Plus of West Virginia.
Survivors are: daughters, Amanda Lee of Raeford and Melinda Guereschi of Penfiled, New Your; sister Kathleen Miguel of Marcellus, New York; grandchildren, Trenton and Chelsea Lee and Katherine Guereschi; and his former wife, Sarah Schofield Guereschi.
A private service will be held at a later date.

Margaret E. Jones

Margaret Ellen Jones, 58, of Sanford went with the angels to God's arms January 22, 2014, at the Hospice House in Pinehurst, after a valiant battle with liver cancer.
She was born June 4, 1955, in Somerset, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Barbara Ellen Elkins Jones, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her father, Dale F. Jones, and stepmother, Regina; a sister, Diane Knupp, and her husband, David; a niece, Jennifer Leigh Poegl, of Richmond, Virginia; her partner, Lori Shawl Leenheer Sweinhart of Sanford; Lori's daughter Kathee Leenheer McKee and her husband Michae;l and three children, Olivia, Caden, and Lincoln, of Tuscon, Arizona.
After getting her bachelor's degree from Concord College, West Virginia, she followed her mother into teaching. She was the seventh generation of educators on her mother's side.
A science teacher specializing in earth science, she was also certified to teach advanced placement courses in chemistry and physics. She delighted in sharing her teaching materials with her fellow teachers. She was a fan of public education.
She taught junior high school in West Virginia, South Carolina, and Virginia before coming to North Carolina. She taught at Union Pines High School in Moore County, Western Harnett High School, Raeford High School, and was teaching science at Eastern Randolph High School when she became ill last year. She also taught GED courses at Sandhills Community College.
She had a great compassion for her students. To help them succeed, she often spent hours after school tutoring them. She called the students "my kids" and often opened her home to them or to friends who needed a place to stay.
Students Chris and Mandy Curlee of Fayetteville were two of her special "kids." Ellen was godmother of their three sons: Tyler, Nathan, and Christopher.
In her spare time, she loved fishing at Jordan Lake and gardening with her friend Billy Walker.
She was a member of Pullen Memorial Baptist Church in Raleigh where she especially enjoyed the Wednesday lectionary lunches.
The family will receive friends at the home, 522 Sunset Drive, Sanford, on Saturday, January 25 from 2-4 p.m. A memorial service will be held in spring at Jordan Lake with the date to be announced later.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, 1801 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC 27605.

Stoney L. McDuffie

Stoney Lee McDuffie, 50, of Raeford, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2014.
Survivors are: sisters, Brenda Floyd and Gloria Jones; brothers, Hosies Jr. and Walter.
The funeral will be held Friday, January 24 at 2 p.m. in Word of Life Temple. Burial will be in Freedom Chapel Church cemetery.
Viewing will be today, January 23 from 1 to 6 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.

Margaret Shaw

Margaret Shaw, 88, of Raeford, died Friday, January 17, 2014 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Survivors are: daughters, Lorine Jones, Mary Blue, and Maxine McDougald and her husband, James all of Raeford; sons, Marvin Shaw and his wife Rita and Murdock Shaw Jr. both of Raeford; sister, Maomia Davis of Brooklyn, New York; 25 grandchlidren; 31 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchlidren.
The funeral will be held Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m. in Rockfish Grove Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will be in church cemetery.

John E. Monroe

John Edward Monore, died Wednesday, January, 15, 2014.
Survivors are: his son, James Junior Haywood of Fayetteville, NC; daughter Tracy Taylor of Rex,NC; sister Mollie Monroe of St. Pauls, NC; brothers John Monroe (Annie)of Raeford, NC and James Sanders Jr. of Fayetteville, NC; four aunts; one uncles; three grandchildren.
The funeral was held Sunday, January 19 at 2:00 PM in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Maxton. Burial was in church cemetery.

John C. Mims Jr.

John Clint Mims Jr., 57, of Raeford, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014 in Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
He was an Army Veteran.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John C. Mims, Sr and Elizabeth Mims.
Survivors are: his wife, JoAnne Johnson-Mims; sisters, Ruth L. Mims and her husband Arthur of Gadsen, AL; Carolyn Mims of Bay Minette, AL; Ada and her husband Roosevelt Andrews of West Haven, CT; Angela D. Mims and her husband Darrell of Huntsville, AL; Mary and her husband Allen Preston of Lakeville, MN; and Judy Pullin of Bay Minette, AL; six brothers, Elder Thomas C Mims and his wife Jennie of Pratville, AL; Baber E. and his wife Blondell Mims of Kempner, TX; Harvey Mims of Sacramento, CA, Dale R. Mims of Bay Minette, AL; Elder Craig and his wife Lisa Mims of Bay Minette, AL and Rodney and his wife Patricia Ann Mims of Bay Minette, AL; two brother-in-laws, Larry Melton and Marvin Johnson; as well as a hostof nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives.
The funeral will be held at the Cape Fear Conference B Headquarter at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22.

Burial will be held on Thursday, January 23 at 2 p.m. at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Viewing will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 1-6 p.m. at Buie Funeral Chapel.

Annie C. Mitchell

Annie Catherine Mitchell, 83, of Raeford, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.
Survivors are: daughter, Terri Dobbins; sister, Mary McNeill; brothers, James Steele and Charles Bethea; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 20 at 1 p.m. in Buie Funeral Home chapel in Raeford.
Visitation will today, Monday, January 19 from 1 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cynthia Pierce

Cynthia Pierce, 48, of Raeford, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014.
Survivors are: husband, Stephen; son, Tyler; daughter, Amber Smith; mother, Ruth Baugh; brother, Dwayne Stalnaker; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, January 20 at 1 p.m. in LaFayette Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
