Harold Monroe

Harold Denton Monroe of Raeford died Tuesday, August 20, 2024, and went to be with his Lord and Savior, at the age of 90.

He was born July 14, 1934 to the late William and Bessie Monroe.

He was a lifelong member of Galatia Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Deacon. He was a founding member of the Puppy Creek Fire Department. Harold loved farming, his 1947 Chevy truck, and his family and friends.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joyce Conoly Monroe; and one grandson, Sean Eastwood.

He is survived by his children, Jennie Gibson (Danny), Wayne Monroe (Peggy), and Sheila Carter (Tony); grandchildren, Kimberly Gibson Brock, Will Gibson, Kelly Carter Lassiter (MacKinsey), Chris Carter, Heather Carter, Josh Eastwood, Scott Eastwood, Kyle Nelson, and John Loper; and great grandchildren, Grayson Brock, Harper Brock, Ava Gibson, Sean Eastwood, Jr., Liam Eastwood, Jamie Jones, Kaleigh Locklear, and Briley Humphrey.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 from 1-2 p.m. at Galatia Presbyterian Church 8800 Galatia Church Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28304. A service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Brett Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Galatia Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Larry McCain

Larry Donald McCain of Hoke County died August 7, 2024 at the age of 72.

He was born December 29, 1951, son of the late Willie Martin and Hattie Mae McCain.

He attended Hoke County Schools and held several jobs in his lifetime. He was the owner and operator of McCain Scrap Metal for over 30 years.

He accepted Christ and joined Leach Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Stephanie McCain; two sisters: Viola McCain and Mary Emma Watkins; and two brothers: Billy McCain Jr. and Ervin Lee McCain.

He is survived by one son, Gary McCain; one sister, Doris Dockery (Ernest); one sister-in-law, Mary Frances McCain; four step-children: Terry McNeill (Barbara), Dewanna King, Derrell King and Mashonda Southerland (Terrell); four grandchildren, one great-grandchild; a fiance, Katie McPherson; two special nieces: Geraldine McCain and Patricia Warren; a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 11 at Leach Springs Missionary Baptist Church.

Milton Vila Sr.

Milton Vila Sr. of Raeford died Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the age of 79.

He was born April 11, 1945 in Puerto Rico to the late Ramon and Magdalena Vila.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Percides (Pat) Vila.

He is survived by his three sons, Milton Vila, Jr., Richard Vila, and Eric Vila; granddaughters, Kyra Vila, Erin Vila, Celina Vila; grandson, Julian Alexander Vila; great-grandchildren, Raquelle S. Ocasio, Lee "Anthony" Jones, Khloe M. Jones, Jordan S. Jones, Kamorie M. Davis, Kameryn L. Davis, Gage Felix, and Samara Felix.

A service will be held at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors. The date is soon to be announced.
