Howard Alford

Howard Alford, 81, of 400 Bridges Road, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Daisy Mae; daughters, Lisa Johnson, Lashanna Brewer, Linda and Ida; son, Howard.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Janurary 31 at 1:30 p.m. in Freedom Chapel Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation, noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Barbara A. Mattei

Barbara Ann Mattei, 65, of Raeford, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015.
She was born July 1, 1949, to Henry and Mae Horton in Patchogue, New York. She is survived by her husband, Richard Robert Mattei of the home; two sons, Paul Evrley Jr. of Hamstead, and Eric Evrley of West Palm Beach, Florida; a daughter, Andrea Lynn Mattei of Gray's Creek; seven grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Mattei, Athena Persephone Evrley, Eric John Evrley, Carolyne Nicole Evrley, Danielle Harley Evrley, Paul Evrley III, and Tara Gorrasi Stewart; and two great-grandchildren, Giana Marie Gorrasi and Ava Lynn Gallimore. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Jan. 30, 2015, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at a later date in New York.

Austin S. Oxendine

Austin S. Oxendine, 17, of 155 Windlock Drive, Red Springs, was born July 11, 1997 and departed this life with his mother and father on Friday, January 23, 2015.
Survivors are: sisters, Megan E. Chavis and Dyna J. Oxendine, both of Red Springs; brothers, Brad C.(Nicole) and Shaylan Q. Lowery, both of Red Springs; grandmother, Mary L. Ruggiero of Maxton; five nieces and nephews; along with a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 28 at 6 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dr. Kenneth Locklear and Hedrick Jones officiating. Burial will be Thursday, January 29 at 11 a.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church.

Mary Ann Oxendine



Mary Ann Oxendine, 40, of 155 Windlock Drive, Red Springs was born June 30, 1974 and departed this life with her son and husband on Friday, January 23, 2015.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Betty Butler; a special father-in-law, Louis Ruggiero; and Uncle Edward.
Survivors are: daughters, Megan E. Chavis and Dyan J. Oxendine, both of Red Springs; sons, Brad C.(Nicole) and Shaylan Q. Lowery, both of Red Springs; brothers, Randy Sullivan(Rosemary), Stevie Sullivan(Tammy), and Ricky Butler, all of Red Springs; sisters, Alane Woods(Stevie) and June Emanuel(Wayne); five grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mary L. Ruggiero; and a host of relatives, friends, and loved ones.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 28 at 6 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dr. Kenneth Locklear and Hedrick Jones officiating. Burial will be Thursday, January 29 at 11 a.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church.

Jamie Oxendine

Jamie Oxendine, 43 of 155 Windlock Drive, Red Springs, was born December 19, 191 and was suddenly called home to be with the Lord along with his wife and son onJanuary 23, 2014.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Japhet and Ethel Lee Locklear and a special father, Louis Ruggiero.
Survivors are: daughters, Megan E. Chavis and Dyna J. Oxendine, both of Red Springs; sons, Brad C.(Nicole) and Shaylan Q. Lowery of Red Springs; mother, Mary L. Ruggiero; brothers, Waymon D. McMillian(Christina) and Jimmy Oxendine, both of Maxton; five grandchildren; four aunts and one great-aunt and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, January 28 at 6 p.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dr. Kenneth Locklear and Hedrick Jones officiating. Burial will be Thursday, January 29 at 11 a.m. at Prospect United Methodist Church.

James P. Knott

 

 CSM (R) James Phillip Knott of Raeford died Friday, January 23, 2015 in his home at the age of 75.

He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on November 14, 1939 to the late Wilson and Mary Ida Knott. He retired from the US Army on January 31, 1989 as a Command Sergeants Major with 33 years of service. As part of his service he had a combat tour of duty in the Dominican Republic, two combat tours of duty in Vietnam and participated in rescuing U.S. medical students on the Island of Grenada. He was the first Command Sergeants Major of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade 82nd ABN Division. Among his many awards, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Master Parachute Badge and 2 Bronze Stars. He attended the Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunting mentor.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Knott of Raeford; three sons, James L. Knott of Nashville Tennessee, and James P. Knott II and Peter R. Knott both of Raeford; daughter Paula Knott Bryson (Wesley) of Nashville, Tennesee; step-daughter Lynette S. Lorenzetti (Christopher) of Burlington; two brothers, Ronald Reichert (Margaret) of Lutherville, Maryland and Lawrence R. Knott of Rohrersville, Maryland; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. 

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 at Antioch Presbyterian Church 6583 Red Springs Road, Red Springs, NC, with the Rev. Dr. David Hudson officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Mohomed Z. Shaikh

Mohomed Zakir Shaikh, 58, of 1580 President St., died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015.
Survivors are: wife, Mumtaz; son, Jabir; and daughter, Vaitreea.
The funeral was held Saturday, January 24 at  noon in Muslim Funeral Service in Chicago, Ill. Burial was in Bluff City Cemetery in Chicago.
