Julie Harrell

Julie Marie Harrell of Hope Mills passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital at the age of 34.
She was born July 9, 1982 in Chicago Illinois. She was employed with Carolina Concrete Finishing as office manager.
She is survived by her husband Nicholas Shaun Harrell Sr. of Hope Mills; her son Nicholas Shaun Harrell Jr. of Hope Mills; a nephew Michael Lee Harrell III of Hope Mills; 6 sisters, Elizabeth Steele, Tanya Bryant, Melissa Fletcher, Michele Fletcher, Kimberly Fletcher, and Tiffany Fletcher; and 2 brothers, Johnny Fletcher, Matthew Fletcher.
A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, January 1, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 2, 2016 at Raeford Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Judes's.

Flora Hord

Flora Louise Gillis Warwick Hord of Raeford passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at her home at the age of 92.

She was born May 7, 1924 in Hoke County to the late Duncan P. Gillis and Ada Florence Guin Gillis. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Hubert Warwick and Robert Hord, and her siblings, Clara Gillis, Luther Gillis and Clyde Gillis Sr. She was a faithful lifetime member of Philippi Presbyterian Church where she served many positions.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Warwick Vaughn and her husband John of Fayetteville; her son, Duncan Albert Warwick Sr.  and his wife Kathy of Raleigh; a brother, Herman Gillis and his wife Elsie of Statesville; 5 grandchildren, Dana Stocum (Ted), Jeff Maxwell (Penny), Duncan A. Warwick, Jr. (Leigh), Beth Brooks (Chris) and Laura Warwick; 12 great-grandchildren, Kenny Martin, Cory Maxwell, Haley Maxwell, Brennan Cosper, Manley Cosper, Eric Brooks, Trinity Brooks, Gracie Brooks, Christian Brooks, Addison Warwick, Duncan Warwick III and Elin Warwick; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.   

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Philippi Presbyterian Church with Elder Herman Autry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Kenneth Donie

Kenneth W. Donie (SGM Ret.) of Raeford died in his home on Friday, December 23, 2016 at the age of 60.

He was born in Onslow County on July 25, 1956. He proudly served in the United States Army and was assigned to the 7th Group Special Forces.

He is survived by his wife Tam Vu Donie of Raeford; his sons, Vu Donie of High Pont, and Dung Donie of Durham; and his sister, Sue Donie of Youngtown, Ohio.

A visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford, NC

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at Sandhills State Veteran’s Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Janet Hodgin

 Janet H. Hodgin of Raeford passed away Saturday, December 24, 2016 at the age 82.

She was born in Hoke County on September 20, 1934 to the late Sherif, David Henry Hodgin Sr. and Claudine Krider Hodgin. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Teal. She graduated high school in Hoke County in the early 1950s and later was employed with the American Red Cross at Ft. Bragg until she retired.

She is survived by her brother, David Hodgin and his wife Linda of Raeford; her sister, Claudine Hodgin of California; two nephews, Chad Hodgin and his wife Elizabeth of Shannon, and Jimmy Teal and his wife, Rebecca of Fayetteville; a great nephew, Will Hodgin of Shannon; and a great niece, Mary Katherine Hodgin of Shannon;

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Raeford Cemetery with Pastor Jim Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.

Jerry Williams

Jerry A. Williams of Raeford passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2016 in FirstHealth Moore Regional at the age of 74.

He was born in Hoke County on August 4, 1942 to the late Oscar Giles Williams and Trannie Roewood Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Floyd Williams, and his brothers, Bobby Williams, "Buddy" Williams and Tommy Williams.

He is survived by his children, Dodi W. Beshilas and her husband, John of Rockfish, Lisa W. Lovelace and her husband, Jay of Tampa, Florida, Jeremy R. Williams and his wife, and Sara B. Williams of N. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his sister, Peggy W. Stanley of Evans, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Zoe, Nicholas, Emmett, and Brandon.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Annie Monroe

Annie Myrtle Quick Monroe died Nov. 27, 2016. 
She is survived by her husband John "Buddy" Monroe; a son, Willie Kelly Jr. (Sharon); a daughter, Darlene (James); three grandchildren, Shalexicia Kelly, Shasmine Kelly and Jamesha Gates; three great-grandchildren,  Forrest Allen, Madison Allen, and Natalie Allen; two sisters, Myrtle Chavis and Donnella Quick; two brothers-in-law, James McPhaul and James Sanders; nine sisters-in-law, Mollie Monroe, Camilia Monroe, Deloris Monroe, Elizabeth Sanders, Ruby Quick, Ruth Quick, Queen Quick, Evelyn Allen and Betty Quick; and six godchildren, Selina Harris, Christopher Bratcher, Nikki Cunningham-Quick, Theresa Wright, Deborah Turner and Steve Tillman.
The funeral was held Dec. 3 at s p.m. at Cape Fear Converence B headquarters in Raeford. Interment was at 4 p.m. in Silver Grove Community Cemetery.

George King

George McCown King, 84, of Raeford, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst following a decline in health.  

He was born in Florence, South Carolina on November 1, 1932 to the late Rhea McCown and Walter Leek King. He graduated from McClenaghan High School in June 1950. He attended The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, where he was a member of the Summerall Guards, an elite silent drill platoon.  He was "A" Company Commander his senior year and graduated in May 1954. He married the former Charlotta Coward in August 1954, to whom he was married 59 years. She predeceased him in 2013.

He served two years in the U.S. Army.  Following military service, he began his career in textile manufacturing. In 1963, he joined Burlington Industries and began at the Menswear Combing Plant followed by the Finishing Plant, both located in Clarksville, Virginia. In 1972, he transferred to the Burlington Menswear Dyeing Plant in Raeford, where he completed 32 years of service with retirement in 1995. 

He was active in the Raeford United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School in the Bob Lewis Bible Class. He served on Administrative Board, Council on Ministries and supported in meal preparation for Wednesday Night Supper. He was President of the Clarksville, Virginia Lions Club. While in Raeford, he served as Zone Chairman, District 31F Lions International and Deputy District Governor, District 31F.
He is survived by his two daughters, Polly King Jordan and husband, John of Raeford, and Charlotta King Howell and husband, David, a Raeford native, of Clarksville, Virginia; his son, George McCown King Jr. and wife, Roxanne of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and granddaughter, Elizabeth McCown King of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by his cousin, Dr. Edgar David Charles III and wife, Allison of Westfield, New Jersey and their children, Evelyn, Henry and Hayden.
The funeral will be officiated graveside by the Rev. Brian Wingo at Raeford Cemetery on E. Central Avenue at 11 A.M. on Friday, December 23, 2016.  Visitation will be graveside, following the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to Raeford United Methodist Church, 308 N. Rosie Mae Champion

Rosie Mae Champion, born September 29, 1952 in Bishopville, South Carolina to the late Samuel and Carrie Smalls Holloman, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at her home.  She was preceded in death by her siblings, Samuel Holloman Jr., Emma Jane Johnson, Shirley Johnson, and Rebecca Holloman.
She was educated in the public schools of Lee County and attended Fayetteville Community College. She retired two years ago from the Cumberland County School District.  She loved God and used her gift of singing. She was a member of True Faith Outreach Ministries in Raeford.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Jerry C. Champion; a son, Daren C. Champion of Hartford, Connecticut; a daughter, Charice N. Champion of Orlando, Florida; three brothers, Judge Holloman of New Jersey, J.L. Holloman and Isaac Holloman (Ann) of South Carolina; three sisters, Eva Battles of South Carolina, Marie Holloman of North Carolina, and Ann Pickering (Tippy) of Connecticut; two brothers-in-law, Jeffery Champion (Chantora) and Darren Miller of Illinois; six sisters-in-law, Lorraine Deer of Illinois, Brenda McCreary (Andre) of Indiana, Joann Champion, Deloris Champion, Vickie Woodson (David) and Valerie Champion of IL; and two grandchildren, Carlin Champion of CT, and Caleb Champion of Connecticut.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the Purcell Funeral Home chapel, Laurinburg.  Burial will be held in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake.

Patricia A. Chambers


Patricia Anita Chambers of Raeford died Monday, December 19, 2016 around 10 p.m. 
Born in Dillon, South Carolina on December 16, 1945 to Ora Mae Burns and Andrew McRoy Hatchell, she was known to those who loved her as Momma, Pat, Trish or Tricia and will be missed more than she could ever know.
She is survived by her children, Andrew Robert Chambers, and Melvin Clayton Chambers Jr., both of Raeford, and Michele Musselwhite, currently in White Plains, New York, as well as her siblings, Libby Burns of Rockfish, Judy Parker of Fayetteville, Linda Wallschleager of St. Petersburg, Florida, Ronnie Hatchell of Raeford and Delmer Hatchell of Fortville, Indiana.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Melvin Chambers Sr.; her mother and father; her infant children, Paul Douglas Musselwhite Jr., Paige Denise Musselwhite and Heather Gabrielle Musselwhite; and her grandson, Andrew Robert Chambers Jr.
