Eddie L. McGougan

Eddie Lee McGougan, 73, of Aberdeen died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Pinehurst Nursing Center in Pinehurst.
Survivors are his wife, Doris; sons Travis McGougan (Tiarra),  and Eric McGougan; daughters Audrey McRae, Michelle Martin (Johnny), Teresa Foster (Angelo),  and Lisa Harris; brothers Odell, Willie, and Doug McGougan;  sisters Mary Baldwin (Hosey), Nettie  and Sarah McGougan; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 4 at 1 p.m. at Turning Point Worship Center, 16433 US Highway 15-501Aberdeen. No Public Viewing will be held.

Luther R. Taylor

Luther Ray Taylor of Raeford died, Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in his home at the age of 68.

He was born in Hoke County on December 17, 1948 to the late James Douglas Taylor and Iva Mae Taylor. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Northcot.

He leaves behind his wife, Shirley Faye Horne Taylor of Raeford; four daughters, Cindy T. Leach (Kirk) of Raeford, Donna T. Graham (James) of St. Pauls, Sonya McLaughlin of Orrum, and Lillian Hardin of Lumberton; his son, Mark McLaughlin (Tammy) of Lumberton; four brothers, J.C. Taylor (Debra) of Charlotte, Howard Taylor (Joan) of Charlotte, Ronnie Taylor (Kay) of Raeford, and Roy Lee Taylor (Debra) of Charlotte; three sisters, Shirley Russ (Tracy) of Charlotte, Susie Cameron (Ronnie) of Raeford, and Becky Johnson (William) of Raeford; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.,m.  Friday, February 3, 2017 at Raeford Church of God of Prophecy, 913 West Prospect Ave in Raeford. Interment will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Eveline A. Burchett

Eveline Angela Burchett 85, of Raeford, passed away January 28, 2017, at Cumberland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. 
She was born October 29, 1931 in Germany to the late Peter and Helene Groth. She enjoyed raising birds. She is preceded in death by her husband Francis Burchett. 
She is survived by two sons, Hans Burchett and Karl Burchett, both of Parkton; a daughter, Iris Fowler of Raeford; and one grandchild, Jerry Stephenson of Raeford. 
Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2017, at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford. 
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Ephesus Baptist Church Cemetery.

William E. McCormick

William Ervin "Billy" McCormick, 61, of Red Springs passed away January 27, 2017. 

A Visitation will be held from 5—8 p.m. Thursday at Robinson-McLean Funeral Service, Maxton.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 3, at McCormick's Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Red Springs.

Claudine K. Hodgin


Claudine K. Hodgin of San Rafael, California passed away Monday, January 24, 2017 at the age 80.
She was born in Hoke County on December 9, 1936 to the late sheriff, David Henry Hodgin Sr. and Claudine Krider Hodgin. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Teal and Janet Hodgin. She graduated high school in Hoke County in the early 1950s and later was employed as a teacher in California until she retired.
She is survived by her brother, David Hodgin and his wife Linda of Raeford; two nephews, Chad Hodgin and his wife Elizabeth of Shannon, and Jimmy Teal and his wife, Rebecca of Fayetteville; a great nephew, Will Hodgin of Shannon; and a great niece, Mary Katherine Hodgin of Shannon.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 6th at the Raeford Cemetery with Pastor Jim Smith officiating.

C. Anderson Hostetler

Charles Anderson Hostetler Jr. of Hudson, Florida, and a proud North Carolinian from Raeford, began his celebration with the Lord on Friday, January 27, 2017. He retired from Fruit of the Loom in Bowling Green, Kentucky and made Florida his new home in 2016 where he enjoyed life on the Gulf Coast.

He was born May 30, 1954 in Raleigh, and was the first born of Anne Gore Hostetler Register and Charles Anderson Hostetler Sr.

His career spanned 35 years in the textile and apparel industry. Beginning at Burlington Industries in Raeford, he worked in manufacturing and later in corporate finance. He headed the sales effort for Burlington's Raeford Uniform Fabrics Division in their New York City office for six years. He joined JP Stevens and spearheaded the global expansion of their Elastomerics Division. While there he traveled the globe to source rubber for the elastic industry.

In 1993, he joined Fruit of the Loom at its global headquarters in Bowling Green. Heading its International Sourcing area then serving as vice president of International Sales, he developed markets in the Caribbean South and Central America. He also served as vice president of Business Development, then vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility, and as vice president of Education and Development prior to his retirement in 2013.

He was a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy and Wake Forest University where he was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He attended the business school at the University of North Carolina. He pursued a masters degree in history at Western Kentucky University and served on the board of directors for the Gordon Ford School of Business at WKU. He was a dedicated and active member of the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce and served on numerous boards and committees to further the progress of education in the community.

He is survived by his wife, Denishia Martin Hostetler of Hudson, Florida. He was married to Linda Peterson Hostetler and together they had two children: a son Peterson, daughter-in-law, Natalie, and grandson, Winston; and daughter, Honor, of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is also survived by his stepsons, John C. Martin II and Corie, with granddaughters Sofia and Morgan of Woodbury, Kentucky; and James Clayton Martin and Levona, with granddaughter Jazlyn and grandson Jace, Alpharetta, Georgia.

Also surviving are his mother, Anne Gore Register and stepfather, Tom Register of Pinehurst; brother, Henry and wife Kathy Hostetler of Winterville; and sister, Dorcas and Mark Douglas of Cary.

Visitation for friends and family will begin at Friday, Feb. 3 at 9:30 in Gatlin Hall at the First Baptist Church in Raeford. The funeral will be held at 10:30 at the church. Interment will follow at the Raeford Cemetery.
