Anthony D. Roberts

Anthony Darryl Roberts of Raeford passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 at his home at the age of 39.
He was born in Franklin County, New York on August 25, 1979 Alton Ellsworth Roberts and Beverly Ann Wheeler Roberts who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his aunts, Valerie Jones, Eva, and Clover plus several uncles, cousin, nieces and nephews.

Fred McMillian Jr.

Fred McMillian Jr. of Raeford passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at his home, at the age of 71.
He was born in Robeson County on June 22, 1947, to the Fred McMillian Sr. and Reba Locklear McMillian. He was employed with Burlington Industries and was a brick mason before he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Clara Faircloth McMillian of Raeford; his son, Michael L. Faircloth and his wife Nikuah of Raeford; three grandchildren, Deanna Chavis of Longs, South Carolina, Michael-James Faircloth of Raeford and Myles Faircloth of Raeford; one great grandson, Elijah Avery of Longs; three brothers, Glenn T. (Bully) McMillian and his wife Joyce of Rennert, Charles (Ed) McMillian of Saddletree, and Benny Ray (Dudi) McMillian and his wife Kathy of Lumberton; and two sisters, Barbara Ann Wilkins and her husband Greg of Lumberton, and Elizabeth Faye (Coot) Jones and her husband Ronald of Lumberton.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2018 from 1 until 2 p.m. at Raeford Christian Center Assembly of God, 1511 Red Springs Road, Raeford.
A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church.

Robert Michael "Mike" Wood

Robert Michael (Mike) Wood, 77, of Raeford, passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at his home in Greensboro. 

After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he worked as a pharmacist more than 40 years. He not only loved his career, but he was a loyal, hardworking man, whether in private practice at Hoke Drug or a pharmacy chain. 

He is survived by his children, Marti Langholz (Steve) of Greensboro, Brian Wood of Thomasville, Georgia, and Austin Wood (Quan) of Charlotte; grandchildren Hannah Geldner (Tim) and Hunter Langholz (Chasity) of Greensboro, Mallory McDonald of Southern Pines, and McKennon Wood of Charlotte; great-granddaughter Oaklyn Geldner of Greensboro; brother Kermit L. Wood Jr. (Lib) of Raeford; and sister Sandra Hill (Jerry) of Carlisle, Kentucky. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at First Baptist Church, 333 N. Main Street in Raeford. The family will receive friends following the service until 1 p.m. In honor of Mike's spirit of generosity, memorials may be made to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone , NC 28607.

Robert "Bobby" Cox Jr.

Robert M. (Bobby) Cox Jr. of Raeford passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the age of 83.
He was born January 11, 1935 in Hoke County to Robert Maurice Cox Sr. and Maggie McVicker Cox who preceded him in death. He was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities and was presented Elder Emeritus. He was an active member of the Woodman of the World, Lodge 118 and was president for many years. He retired as Assistant Manager of Raeford Oil Company after 41 years. 
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Pauline C. Cox of Raeford; a son, Mitchell M. Cox and his wife, Janie of Concord; a daughter, Barbara Cox Walters and her husband Harry of Roxboro;  four grandsons, Eric Cox and his wife Jessica, Jordan Cox, Austin Cox and Matt Walters (Quita); two granddaughters, Sarah Cox and Mallory Walters; a great-grandson, Kingston Walters; a sister, Dorothy McMillian; a brother-in-law, Jerry Clapp; one niece; and several nephews. 
A visitation will be held Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall from 10-11 a.m.
The funeral will be held at the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Fitzgerald and the Rev. Michael McGhee officiating.
Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Adam C. Blake

Adam Carson Blake of Raeford passed away at his home on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 at the age of 85.
He was born in Hoke County on August 18, 1933, to the late Adam and Maris Blake. He was preceded in death by his son, Graylon Blake Marchant. He served in the US Army, worked for G.M. in Atlanta, GA and was the owner and operator of Blake's Auto Clinic in Hillcrest before he retired.
He is survived by his wife, Melba B. Blake of Raeford; his children, Trent Blake of Victoria, TX., Kimball Blake and his wife Georgia of Victoria, TX., and Kenny Blake and his wife Charity of Raeford; his stepdaughter, Regina Lynn and her husband James of Dallas, TX.; 9 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2018.

Lynnette Norton

Lynette C. Norton of Raeford passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital at the age of 81.

She was born on December 4, 1936 in Shelby.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alex S. Norton and two sons Daniel A. Norton and David E. Norton.

She is survived by her son, Mark D. Norton (Karen Hutchison) of Raeford; grandchildren, Heather, Alexandra, Alex and Caroline; one great-grandson, Carmine; and two sisters, Donnis and Gia.

Betty Ritchie

Betty Culbreth McLean Ritchie, a resident of Harrisburg, unexpectantly passed away on November 15.  Having celebrated her 90th birthday on September 30, she was continuously active as a dedicated servant in her church and tireless volunteer in the community until her death.
A native of Raeford, she graduated from Hoke County High School, and in 1950 received a BA degree in Bible and Social Studies from Flora Macdonald College (now St. Andrews University). At Flora Macdonald, she was president of the Christian Association, May Queen, and selected for Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges. She served as a director of Christian Education in the First Presbyterian Church of Wilson, and in two Presbyteries in the Synod of North Carolina before her marriage in 1954 to the Rev. Stuart A. Ritchie.  She supported Stuart in ministry at Presbyterian churches in Fayetteville and Troy, and Amity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.
As a teacher, she was on the staff of a pre-school in Troy, and a Montessori School in Laurel, Maryland, and after receiving her teacher certification in mathematics at UNCC, taught at two Charlotte junior high schools—Cochrane and Hawthorne. In 1984, she was chosen as Teacher of the Year at Hawthorne.  
A former elder and moderator of Presbyterian Women, she received a Life Membership in Presbyterian Women in 2001. In 2018 she was honored by Charlotte Presbytery with a Legacy award, given to senior adults in recognition of outstanding service in church and community.
She served as chief judge for her voting precinct in Cabarrus County for many years. She remained actively involved in other community organizations.  She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority for women educators, serving as president for two terms and an executive board member for many years. As coordinator of volunteers for the Harrisburg Public Library since 2010, she was honored by the North Carolina Library Association as Volunteer of the Year in 2013.  She volunteered at the Center for Community Transitions for several years, and in 2017 was chosen as Volunteer of the Year. She also supported the Red Cross as a lifelong blood donor.
She was the daughter of H.R. and Sadie Culbreth McLean of Raeford. She is survived by two sons, Mac Ritchie of Trabuco Canyon, California and John and his wife Theresa Ritchie of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Courtney, Taylor, Troy Ritchie, Chad (Sydney) Ritchie, and Kayla (Alex) Gary; and two sisters, Mary (Wyatt) Aiken of Morganton, and Hazel Hubbard of Gaffney, South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at Newell Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 15, 2018, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Colin Lee Lovette

Colin Lee Lovette died at his home on November 17, 2018.  He was born on July 8, 1944 in Richmond County to Edker and Marie Lovette and resided in Raeford. He loved God, his family and his country.  He was an ordained deacon with Pittman Grove Baptist Church and a servant of his savior Jesus Christ.  For much of his life he worked at Burlington Industries and Rockwell International as a skilled mechanic, and his expertise was vital to business operations.  He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, taking care of his family and singing gospel music.
He is preceded in death by his sister Paula Zaring. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Bobbie (Daniels) Lovette; his children, Michael Lovette (Denise) of Slidell, Louisiana, Steve Lovette (Jessica) of Charleston, South Carolina, Julie Saunders (Drake) of Raeford, and Robert "Chris" Lovette (Jennifer) of Salisbury; brothers, Tommie Lovette (Shelby) of Deland, Florida, and Charles Lovette (Frances) of Inverness, Florida; his sister, Linda Pittman (Barry) of Raeford; 10 grandchildren, Megan Tillis (Gregory) of Columbus, Georgia, Justin Spencer of Raeford, SSG Cameron Lovette (Emily) of El Paso, Texas, SSG Jhonathan Spencer (Schani) of Raeford, Michael Lovette Jr. (Vivian) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, SPC Seth Lovette of Charleston, South Carolina, SGT Christopher Saunders of Hawaii, SSG Joshua Lupo (Marivel) of Columbus, Georgia, SrA Mitchell Wilson of Charleston, South Carolina, and Lilian Lovette of Wilmington; and nine great-grandchildren.

Andrew "Andy" Lamont Sr.

Andrew Morris (Andy) Lamont Sr. of Raeford passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018 at his home at the age of 69.
He was born in Hoke County on December 22, 1948 to William and Mary Morris Lamont.
He was a member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church. He was the owner and operator of the Home Food Grill. He was passionate about his cooking, family and serving his community. 
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Andrew Morris (Drew) Lamont Jr. and his sister, Pat Lamont Wilcox. 
Survivors are his wife, Carol Campbell Lamont of Raeford; daughters, Audra Lamont McCormick and her husband Mark of Laurinburg, Caroline Lamont Hendricks of Southern Pines, and Jennifer Henry Rae of Winston-Salem; a son, Russell J. Henry of Aberdeen; five grandchildren, Sydney Huff, Madison McCormick, Faith McCormick, Alyssa Hendricks and Kaitlin Rae; and one brother, William (Monty) Lamont III and his wife Lynn of New Bern.

Jimmie Jude

CW2 Jimmie Edward Jude, US Army Ret., of Raeford passed away Friday, November 16, 2018 at his home at the age of 80. 
He was born May 12, 1938 in Justice, West Virginia to Sanford Jude and Ida Mae Hackney Jude. 
He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and Federal Civil Service for 20 years. He was member of Raeford First Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Disabled American Veterans Hoke Co. Chapter 17 and The American Legion Post 1981.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Margaret Ann Gurley Jude and Betty McKinney Jude; grandson Matthew Orem; and his sister, Geraldine Harding.
He is survived by four daughters, Kathy Sandy and her husband Rick of Raeford, Stephanie Pickler and her husband Reggie of Raeford, Michelle Wallace and her husband Billy Ray of Fayetteville, and Denise Neal and her husband Toby of Raeford; four grandchildren, Megan Croom of Winnabow, Lindsay King and her husband Russell of Winnabow, Johnathan Pickler of Raeford, and Anthony Neal of Raeford; three great-grandchildren, Christopher King, Channing King and Eisley King; and a brother, Dennis Jude and his wife Mimi of Wilmington.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 at the First Baptist Church 333 North Main Street, Raeford.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas Lee and Pastor Toby Neal officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Cumberland Memorial Gardens, 4509 Raeford Road, Fayetteville.

Lewis McNeill

Lewis McNeill, 91, died November 14, 2018 at Open Arms Retirement Center in Raeford. 
He was a graduate of Hoke County High School and a Navy veteran. In 1956 he graduated from the Cincinnati College of Embalming and became a partner in McGoogan-McNeill Funeral Home. This later became McNeill Funeral Home, which he operated until he retired in 1993.  Beginning in 1969 he served two terms as mayor of St. Pauls, and he served on the board of directors of Waccamaw Bank and United Carolina Bank. He was a member of St. Pauls Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder. He was recognized for his service by being honored as elder emeritus. An avid pilot, he continued flying until he was in his mid-80s. He was a member of Cape Fear Aero Association. 
He was preceded in death by his parents, William John and Addie Baker McNeill; and his siblings, Lucille Burkhart, Margaret Willis, Edward McNeill, Janie Barbour, Floyd McNeill, and Robert McNeill. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sarah Louise McGoogan McNeill; his children, Ann Mikan and husband Tom, Martha Goff and husband Tom, John McNeill and wife Kristen, and David McNeill and wife Jane; his sister, Edith Newton; grandchildren, Lee Thach, Tara Stroud, Matt Goff, Daniel Goff, Sara Goff, Madeline McNeill, Kevin McNeill, Kimberly McNeill, and Mitchell McNeill; great-grandchildren Ava Thach, Ty Thach, and Hayden Stroud. 
A visitation will be held Friday, November 16, 2018 from6-8 p.m. at McNeill Mackie Funeral Home of St. Pauls. The funeral is scheduled for Saturday November 17, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Pauls Presbyterian Church.  Burial will follow in St. Pauls Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Raina L. Black

Raina Lane Black, age 22, of 122 Congaree Drive,  Raeford, died Thursday, October 11, 2018.

She was born on March 12, 1996 in Moore County to Misty Black Martinez and Anthony Dial. She is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, John Arthur Black, step-grandfather, John Thomas Strobeck, and her stepfather, Martin Henry Woods.

She is survived by three daughters, Victoria Black, Olyvia Smith and Amelyia Smith, all of the home; her mother, Misty Martinez of Raeford; her father, Anthony Dial of Lumberton; two brothers, John Henry Black, of Chapel Hill, and Damien Jacob Black, of Rockingham; a stepbrother, Antonio Dial, of Maxto; one sister, Molli Belah Sunshine Black, of the home; three aunts, Betty Jo Gallegoz, and Crystal Gayle Artis (Ronald Carlos), both of Greensboro, and Tonya Locklear, of Red Springs; three uncles, Weylin Woods and Ricardo Locklear, both of Red Springs, and Dennis Oxendine of Oxford; her maternal grandmother, Brenda Strobeck; paternal grandparents, Charlie Jr. Dial and Gaynelle Dial; her step-grandmother, Rita Lane Locklear; and two nephews, Devin Richard Black and Damien Jacobs Blacks.      

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Heritage Funeral Home, Hardin's Chapel, Red Springs. The Rev. Audrey Hall will officiate.

Infant Curtis White

Curtis White, infant son of Curtis and Jazmine White, died November 6, 2018 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was born August 10, 2017.

Other than his parents, he is survived by paternal grandparents, Sabrina and Eugene White; paternal great-grandmother, Ruth Anderson; maternal grandmother, Brandy Driggers; maternal great-grandparents, Scott and Shelly Howe; aunt, Alaina Driggers; uncles, Stephen Driggers and Monroe White; aunt, Ashley White; and godparents, Chris and China Oakley.

Johnsie L. Foster

Johnsie Linthicum Foster, of Raeford, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018 in her home at the age of 77.
She was born in Moore County on May 14, 1941, to the late John and Nannie Linthicum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred L. Foster, her brothers, John Linthicum Jr, Ed Linthicum, Billy Joe Linthicum, Lester Linthicum and her sisters, Dorothy Garfield, Thelma Williams, Dixie Freeman. She attended Raeford Church of God Prophecy. She graduated from Hoke County High School in 1959. She was employed with the A & P in Raeford and retired from Bobby Britt's Food Stop in 2006.  
She is survived by her daughters, Leslie F. Hinson (Brian) of Raeford, Stacey F. King (Cary) of Raleigh,
 and Laura F. Rouse (Brandon) of Chesapeake, VA; five grandchildren, Dolan Hinson, Ethan King, Sara King, Jonathan Rouse and Emily Rouse; and a sister, Jean Jones (Bobby) of Charlotte. 
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 pm Monday, November 12, 2018 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Avenue, Raeford, NC, and at other times at the home of Johnsie.

Lois Locklear


Lois Locklear, 103, of Raeford, passed away on November 4, 2018 at Autumn Care in Raeford.
She was born on August 17, 1915 in Robeson County to Elisha and Esther Dial.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, the Rev. Claudie, Roy, Henry, Cliff and Clarence Dial, and two sisters, Helen Locklear and Lizzie Dial.
She is survived by two children, Plummer Locklear Jr. of Raeford and Mildred Placa Thorud of Pinebluff; one sister, Margaret Chavis; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 2-3 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines with a service at 3 p.m.  Entombment will follow at Pinelawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
