Mary C. Lawson

Mary Chambers Lawson, 73, went to be with her Savior early the morning of November 6, 2012.
Born October 18, 1939, she was the beloved wife survived by Bronzie Lawson Jr of 51 years; Bronzie III and wife Pam; grandchildren Bronzie IV and wife Heidi; Christopher, Emily, Brooke; one great-grandchild Brianna; her brother, Dawson Chambers Jr. and wife Virginia; and her niece Kattie and husband Joel. She was preceded in death by Dawson and Virginia Chambers and two sisters Linda and Sadie. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to Pastor Bruno Alcime. Edwin H. Brown

Edwin Horace Brown, 80, of Aberdeen, died October 30, 2012.
Graveside service was held Fri. Nov.2 at 11 a.m. at Old
Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Survivors are: wife, Rebecca McLeod Brown; son, Edwin Horace Brown Jr. and his wife Tavia of Charolttesvilla, Virginia; daughter, Rebecca McLeod Brown of Winston-Salem; sister, Mildred Brown Huckaby of Laurens, South Carolina; and two grandchildren.

Mary D. Balch

Mary D. Balch of Raeford has gone to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 while at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 70.
Mary Jo was born on January 1, 1942 in Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Grafton County, New Hampshire, the daughter of Orville and Barbara (Chase) DeCoff. She attended schools in Pomfret and Woodstock, Vermont before marrying at a very tender age. She accompanied her husband George Balch around the world as an Army wife. Stationed at Fort Bragg for the bulk of their military career, Mary and George settled down in Raeford upon retirement. She was a member of the Sandy Grove United Methodist Church, DAV Auxiliary, and the V.F.W. Post 10 Auxiliary. She and George were known for being very early risers and always having the coffee ready at the family reunions.
Survivors are her husband, George E. Balch of Raeford; four daughters, June E. Bolieu and her husband Don of Salina, Kansas, Jane C. Colbert and her husband James of Watson, Oklahoma, Jacquline M. Drinkwater of Albany, Georgia, and Jennifer L. Hammock and her husband Paul of Salem, Alabama; her mother, Barbara Gilbert and her husband Earl of Leesburg, Florida; two brothers, Andrew DeCoff and his wife, Marie of Bennington, Vermont, Peter DeCoff and Lee of North Pomfret, Vermont; two sisters, Norma Peoples and her husband, David of Broadway, Virginia, and Sally Weglarz and her husband, Ronald of North Pomfret, Vermont; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 until 9 p.m. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford, NC.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m.Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at Sandy Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judson Dunlap and the Rev. Richard Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.

Betty C. McDuffie

Betty Conoly McDuffie of Raeford died Saturday, November 03, 2012 in Autumn Care of Raeford at the age of 94.
She was born in Surry County on May 27, 1918 to the late Charlie Lee Reynolds and Martha Jane Sutphin Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Roy Conoly and Edwin McDuffie. She was a member of Raeford Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Dean and his wife Manilla of High Point, Roy Conoly Jr. and his wife Edna of Bear Creek, Donald Conoly and his wife Frances of Germanton, William Conoly of Aberdeen, a daughter, Jane C. Mayo and her husband Robert of Tampa, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, November 5 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave. Raeford.
The funeal will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 6 at Raeford Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the Antioch Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Duncan B McFadyen III

Duncan Brown McFadyen, III, 64, of Raeford, North Carolina died Friday, November 2, 2012 in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He was born April 20, 1948 in Lumberton, North Carolina to Duncan Brown McFadyen, Jr. and wife, Harriet Hodgin McFadyen of Hoke County, who predeceased him. He graduated from Hoke County High School, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina in 1970, and a Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1973.
He began his professional legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Cumberland and Hoke County and served in that capacity from 1973 to 1976. He joined the law firm of the late R. Palmer Willcox in 1976 where he quickly made partner. He became the senior partner in 1998 and served in that capacity until 2012 in the law firm now known as Willcox, McFadyen, Fields and Sutherland. He served as Bar Councilor for Judicial District 16A from 2001 to 2007 and County Attorney for Hoke County from 1979 to 1993. He was held in the highest esteem by his partners, colleagues and members of the court system.
He was a lifelong member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and then elder.
He was an avid reader of history and great literature, an excellent storyteller, and loyal friend to many who will miss his boundless charm and good cheer. The local paper ran a story in 1976 describing him as Raeford's most eligible bachelor, and he remained so until his passing. He faced all of life's challenges, including the last, with his well-known gentlemanly poise and dignity.
He is survived by his brothers, George Hodgin McFadyen and his wife, Anne of Pinetops, North Carolina, and James Laurence McFadyen and his wife, Susan of Thomson, Georgia; four nieces and nephews, James Scott McFadyen and John Robert McFadyen and his wife, Claire of Tarboro, North Carolina, Martha McFadyen Scott and husband, Winfield of Louisville, Georgia, and Mary Kathryn McFadyen Land and husband, Jared of Thomson, Georgia; aunts Frances McFadyen McCreery and husband, Robert of Ponte Vedra, Florida, Louise B. McFadyen of Red Springs; a special aunt and a dear lifelong friend Willa McFadyen Lindsay of Southern Pines; and many cousins. He was a loving brother and uncle.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Raeford Cemetery on Monday, November 5th. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Raeford Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael McGehee and the Rev. James Braden officiating. The family will be available for visitation following the memorial service Monday, November 5th at the Raeford Presbyterian Church-John Ropp Fellowship Hall.
The family will receive friends at the McFadyen family home, 3399 Hwy 401 Business, Sunday, November 4th from 2-5 p.m.

Leatrice J. Campbell

Letrice Jackson Campbell of 207 E. Edinborough Ave died Monday, October 29, 2012 in FirstHealth Regional Medical Center at the age of 78.
She was born in Sampson County on January 16, 1934 to the late Minton Blackmon Jackson and Eula Bell Howard Jackson. She was an Honorary Life Member of the Raeford Presbyterian Church and a member of the Presbyterian Women. She was employed with Burlington Industries in the early 1960's.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jack E. Campbell of Raeford; two daughters, Rhonda C. Ritter and her husband Blaine of Whispering Pines, and Karen S. Campbell of Raeford; two brothers, Roy Jackson and his wife, Becky of Angier, and Clebert Jackson and his wife Judy of Rock Hill, South Carolina; a sister Irese Dees of Rockfish; and two grandchildren, Daniel Ritter and Justin Ritter, both of Whispering Pines.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the John C. Ropp Fellowship Hall, Raeford Presbyterian Church.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Raeford Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Braden officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Patsy Orduna

Patsy Laverne Orduna of Raeford died Friday, October 26, 2012 in Autumn Care of Raeford at the age of 70.
She was born in Dallas, Texas on October 8, 1942 to the late Waymon William Rowe and Lucille Fisher Rowe. She was a Native American Cherokee of the Wolf Clan.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Faye Chancellor of Raeford and Ruby Laverne DeLaughter of Westfield, Massachusetts; one nephew, Christopher Clinton Toland of DeSoto, Texas; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held later.

Ernestine Mills

Ernestine Mills, 95, of 106 Peppertree Lane, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.
Survivors are: daughters, Frances Lewis and Lillian King; sisters, Eunice Smith and Julia Ellis.
The funeral will be held Sat. Nov. 3 at noon in Israel Baptist Church in New Orleans, La. Burial will be in Providence Memorial Cemetery in Metairie, La.

Howard J. Barrington

Howard J. Barrington Jr., 52, of Raeford, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012.
Survivors are: wife, Renee; daughter, Meah; mother, Ella; sisters, Ernestine Allen, Aletha Gilmore, Ellen and Deborah; and brother, Gerald.
The memorial service was held Sat. Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. Saturday in Cunningham & Sons Mortuary chapel in Fayetteville.

Eva Glockner

Eva Glockner of 1206 N. Fulton Street died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in Autumn Care of Raeford at the age of 71.
She was born in Croatia on March 26, 1941 to the late Julius Glockner and Eva Dezefi Glockner.
Survivors include two brothers, Julius Glockner and his wife Glenda of Raeford, and Albert Glockner and his wife Lillian of Alexandria, New Hampshire; and a sister Catherine Mulchay of Mission Viejo, California.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in the Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, Pennsylvania.

John "Johnie" R. Smith

John "Johnie" Reginald Smith of Raeford died Monday, October 22, 2012 in his home at the age of 64.
He was born in Scotland County on February 18, 1948 to the late Clarence David Smith, Jr. and Connie Edith Ayers Smith. He served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Vietnam War. He is preceded in death by his step-mother, Hattie Pearl Patterson Smith, brother, Donald Eugene Williams, and sister, Linda Yvonne Smith.
He is survived by his two sons, Richard Smith, and Jonathan Craig Smith and his wife, Renee of Kannapolis; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; also by John and Merri Manning; his faithful dog, Maggie; brothers, David Lee Williams, Jerry Ray Williams, and Ricky Allen Smith, all of Wagram; sisters, Peggy Ann Williams Hopkins of Wagram, Karen Smith Colson of Maxton, Wanda Gail Smith Davis of Wagram, and Sheila Rebecca Smith of Wagram; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews.

Kathleen H. Hales

Kathleen Harden Hales of Raeford died Monday, October 22, 2012 in FirstHealth Hospice and Palliative Care in Pinehurst at the age of 79.
She was born in Robeson County on February 13, 1933 to the late Dolan Harden and Lula Harden. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Raeford. She retired from J P Stevens in Aberdeen in 1995.She is preceded in death by a brother, Talmadge Harden, and a sister, Hazel Haire.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, William C. Hales of the home; two daughters Brenda Kellis (Harold) of Raeford, and Sue Oxendine (Tim) of Pinebluff; a brother, Delton Harden (Juanita) of Raeford; four sisters, Ernestine Hinson (Frank), Clemateen Britt (Robert), both of Raeford, Geraldine Garrett of Livingston, Tennessee, and Carrie Jacobs (Harold) of Lumberton; three grandchildren, Mark Lyle (Susanne), Yvette Lyle, and Michael Lyle (Amanda); and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 25th between 7 and 9 p.m. at Crumpler Funeral Home in Raeford.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Raeford with Pastor Randall Snead officiating. Burial will be in the Raeford Cemetery.

Amber Bolton

Amber Bolton of Raeford died Sunday, October 21, 2012 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center at the age of 22.
She was born in Cumberland County on June 28, 1990 to Dana Mitchell Bolton and Debra Ann Quick Bolton. She attended Hoke High School and was a member of the North Carolina National Guard. She served a tour in Afghanistan and was promoted to Specialist E-4.
Survivors include her parents, Dana and Debra Quick Bolton of Raeford; a brother, Chase M. Bolton of Raeford; two sisters, Ember L. Bolton and Danielle L. Bolton; her maternal grandfather, Chuck Richards of Raeford; her paternal grandmother, Rachel Bolton of Raeford; two uncles, David Bolton and Adam Richards; two aunts, Katherine Pebbles Cox and Jennifer Richards; a nephew, Daymian M. Bolton of Raeford; and many cousins.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 23 at Crumpler Funeral Home, 131 Harris Ave, Raeford, NC.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 24 at Pittman Grove Baptist Church with full military honors.

Enoch L. Ellison

Enoch Lee Ellison Jr., 56, of 106 McDougald Drive, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012.
He was an Army veteran.
Survivors are: wife, Dawn; mother, Barbara Coleman; father, Enoch; 12 sisters; and six brothers.
The funeral will be held Mon. Oct. 22 at noon in Colvin Funeral Home & Crematory in Fayetteville. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, Spring Lake.

George Williams

George Williams, 60, of 826 Loop Road, died recently.
Survivors are: sons, Bashaun McAllister, Mike Terrell and Kenneth Lockwood; daughter, Holly; brothers, Woodrow, Larry and Victor; and sisters, Yvonne and Sharon.
The funeral was held Sat. Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. in St. Johns Baptist Church in Aberdeen. Burial was in Berkley Cemetery in Aberdeen.
